mobile world sim card

my sil bought one of these sim cards from carphone warehouse today for £10. You can make cheap phone calls back to the Uk and texts as well.
Has any one else bought one/used one before??
I have never heard of it before!!

New to me.
Everyone has computers in our family so use messenger and upload photo's for them to see or even webcam sometimes so no reason to look for anything like this.

I can see costs to US but can't find anything about back to UK.
