Mobile roaming charges

Hi everyone, iv got an iphone and my son has a blackberry i was wondering is there anything we should do to our phones before arriving at DLP to stop roaming charges thanks

You can disable the data. I have a blackberry and do that when we travel out of the country. Easiest way is to google your phone model and "disable data" or "turn data off" or something like that. You should get lots of hits. Or go see your provider and ask.

On my blackberry, under options/mobile network you can turn off data services.

Your service provider will have specific information relating to different countries on their website as to what will and won't rack up costs.

I'm on O2 with an iPhone, and I personally kept it in Airplane mode most of the time.

If you do want to turn it on for calls & SMS, turn off 3G data, turn off Cellular Data.

O2 are very well set-up though, you get text messages as soon as you connect to a network over there confirming charges, and you get alerts when you start to rack up the Data charges (I hit £20 VERY quickly when I did go online, as its over £3 per megabyte.).

Other than that though, the costs of making/receiving calls and texts on O2 there weren't anything extortionate.

on my iphone i just made sure i turned off all the automatic updates and notifications in the settings. only took a few seconds to do and that ensured i didn't get charged for anything but the phonecalls and texts i sent.

Vodafone to a passport thing for free which makes everything cheaper but you have to sign up to it first, they dont tell you about it!
