mobile phones

Thanks very much for that, I spent quite a bit more on my mobile bill last year then the cost of an American SIM card.

If anyone uses this site can they please post a bit of feedback.

If you put the US sim in your UK contract phone wouldn't it need to be unlocked before it worked?

We just bought 2X nokia6210 in wallmart $40 which includes 60min talktime. A T-MOBILE payasyougo. Cards are availible in wallmart for $19,15,20

I am going in December and was wondering about buying mobile phones out there to contact each other. There are 5 of us going and staying in 2 different hotels and thought this might be a better way of staying in touch. Is it pretty straight forward to buy phones over there? Do they come in a package ready to use or do you need to set them up somehow.

Any advise would be much appreciated. Are they $40 each?

Thanks
Latel

As I said we bought them for $40 each, they set them up in wallmart and worked within an hour. The credits last for three months. The phones where nokia. The only problem was that I ran out of credit in the middle of USO. I tried to credit the phone Via the number they supply with the phone for instant credits. They require a US based Credit Card, fortantly I had an American Express card and beyond the difficulty in their computer accepting a UK postcode instead of a Zip code and recieved a $25 credit.

You will have no problem if you buy the topup card at any store.

Thanks for that. I will give it a try when I go. Do you know if you will be able to use them again if you go in say, 2 years time. I know with some UK pay as you go phones if you don't use them for 6 months they get cut off.

Be careful when you do buy them as many pay as you go phones in the US will not allow international calling, or even accept incomeing international calls.

Thanks for that bit of information. We will only be using them to call each other while we are there, so that shouldn't be a problem, but worth knowing.
Thanks

Now....just roll on December!!!

If you are only going to use them internally then Wal-Mart had some for $19.99 (last week) and the top up cards could also be bought to get around the need for a US credit card address. These were basic Nokia 1100's.

why not go to
www.unlockme.co.uk and see if you can unlock your phone before you go thats what i did i have a Nokia i think it is a 6310i so can use any network card
