This will be our first time going as a family (DH, me and almost 3 yr old DS), and we'd like to dress up. DH wants to do Monsters Inc but I feel like that's going to be way too hot (we are going in late September). I'm looking for other ideas.

What have you dressed as in the past? Post your pictures here!

The last year I wore a minnie mouse costume before that I always just did Halloween shirts. Much more fun with a costume, and from the CM comments they love it when people actually dress up. We've always gone the last week of September, and it was hot at the beginning, and by midnight cold. I would say Monsters Inc might be a bit heavy if you go for the full fur costume.

Not sure, Was thinking this myself as I just got my tix for the 31st.

Was contemplating doing a couples costume with the girlfriend but the more i think about it the more i want to do an obscure less known disney character... hmm

My DDs have kind of dictated the whole family's costumes. I'm making the girls' costume the oldest will be Merida (I made the dress have detacheable sleeves so she can have short sleeves, if needed) and my younger one is going to be Elsa. My husband is going to be King Fergus (surprisingly he has requested a kilt) and I am going as Anna or Olaf-my daughter hasn't decided which yet. I'm super excited because they think these costumes are just for Halloween. They have no idea we are going to Disney yet. I can't wait to tell them that the costumes are for trick or treating at Disney and at home.

Oh, I almost forgot, we are tie dying MNSSHP shirts in Halloween colors to wear that day before the party. I'm going to keep them in my backpack so if the costumes get too hot we can change into them that night.

The first year that we MNSSHP-ed, we were Mickey, Minnie and Sorcerer Mickey. TOO HOT. :furious: :furious: The next year, we were Dumbo and Minnie. Still TOO hot! :furious: The next time, we were Tweedle Dum/ Dee and Peter Pan. Getting cooler. :woohoo: This year, we will be the "T-shirt and Shorts Version" of Goofy and Donald. :goodvibes

curious where do you get Halloween shirts, thinking of doing this idea for us grown ups but we are going in Sept. so I have no clue where to find anything like that. And really need some cool ideas for the kids, I know it will be hot.

Etsy- funwithgraphics

She has been worried about copyright issues so she has all her disney stuff on pinterest- so you look on pinterest for the iron on you want, personalize it, and order it through etsy. She's awesome! If you are having a hard time finding her pinterest- just msg her in etsy. She will send you the link.

I was worried I wouldn't be able to make nice shirts. I can't even do bubble letters. The iron ons were so easy to do and looked professional.

In the past we've gone as:
-Tink, Peter & pirate (peter was homemade, tink & pirate bought at a costume store)
-Alice & the White Rabbit (alice custom made park replica off etsy, rabbit put together from clothing & handmade watch, tail & ears)
-Tinkerbell & Periwinkle (Tink same store costume, Peri was my Mom made my grad dress into a costume for me!)
-Wendy Darling (custom made off Etsy)
-Tink, Peter, Cruella De Ville (Tink custom made by a cosplayer, Peter homemade, Cruella bits of store bought & what she already had)

This year we're doing:
-Move It Shake It parade costumes (madeby Mom)
-Gaston & the Bimbettes
-Disney fairies (terrance, zarina, peri & rosetta)
-A random night of characters (bonus party we didn't know we were hitting!)
-Wendy & Peter
-Elsa, Anna, Hans & Kristoff

And yes, that's a LOT of parties but we LOVE halloween & the chance to dress up, we originally planned a trip with multiple parties in Sept and I move down in Oct so we'll go a few days early to hit a couple of parks first!!

Last year I was a dalmatian, and this year I'm going as a fairy.

This will be the third year for more than t-shirt costumes.

1. Minnie, Mickey, eeyore. Very cold, so we layered and DS2 was fine in a fuzzy eeyore.
2. Jessie, woody, 2 little buzz's. Pretty hot but ok. Would not travel with cowboy boots and hats again, but fun!
3. This year Princess Leia, luke skywalker, c3po and R2D2. My sons choice.

I found an adorable red with white polka dots dress and I'm going to wear that with my Minnie Mouse ears. ::MinnieMo I have white Keds and I bought some yellow shoe strings to pop on since I don't have yellow shoes.

We're going with Halloween shirts and bling this year, as it was way too hot for us in costume last time we went. There's some fun Disney t-shirts at the online DisneyParks merchandise store and Amazon.

I don't mind heat-- for me, a costume is everything!! First year I was Jane Austen- that had short sleeves and was airy. Second year we had more pre- planning, so my friend and I were Rainbow Brite and the Color Kids-- I was LaLa Orange. That was warm because I wore orange tights on my legs and arms.

This year I'm doing what I've wanted to do for years-- the Redhead from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. That resigns a few people who are with me to Pirates, but they said they don't care. Also my best friend is going as Jereth the a Goblin King from Labyrinth. I think my parents are going to be the Potato Heads. We'll see about everyone else. We are a pretty big group!!

When you get into it you kinda forget the heat. I went quite covered up last year when it was in the 90s/100s. But you could always take a creative license on the costume you want keep the important parts but change them so its not a full suit costume.

My family is going as the following: me peter pan; DH, Mr. Smee; DS, Captain Hook; DD, tinker bell; DD(2,1) Izzy from jake and the netherland pirates
