MNSSHP-Tips, Tricks, Secrets newbies should know (from the 2009 party!)

We will be at the last party on Nov 1! Does anyone know historically about crowds weather or anything at all about going to the last party? Will people stillbe in costume even though it is actually after Halloween? HAs anyone ever been to a party after Halloween? Just wondering...

It's really hard to predict what will happen this year...

The last time there was a party after Halloween was in 2007. That one sold out and then the one before that was in 2002 and that one did not sell out. They were both Friday nights. This year's is on a Sunday night.

Again, really hard to predict crowds/sell out. Weather should still be hot!

I've never been on the day after Halloween, but I do think I would choose Sunday. Most people plan weekend trips and end up travelling back home on Sunday, so traditionally the Sunday parties have been less well attended.

We went in '07 to the last party on Fri Nov 2. It was pretty good--not too crowded. We got to lots and lots of stuff that night, and the weather was great!

I had no intentions of going to MNSSHP because I did NOT enjoy MVMCP....but halloween is my FAVORITE holiday, I love disney villains, and seeing the decorations in the parks this weekends has just started making me really, really want to try the party.

The problem I had with MVMCP is that I felt like I paid an extra $50 to fight a crowd I hadn't seen in the park pre-party; the 'free' treats came with incredibly long lines, you had to park yourself down at a show halfway through it just to hope to get seating at the NEXT performance of it started, etc. I know a lot of folks mention how rides become walk-ons during the party, but I didn't pay $50 for faster access to a ride I was previously riding for free! So if I attend a party I pretty much only want to partake in the party festivities.

Does MNSSHP suffer the same problems as the christmas party? Are the shows and parade worthwhile enough to suffer through the crowds and waiting? Is it really a likelihood to get a photo taken with a villain character, or just a lucky chance?

Half of me says save my money, but, but....halloween! I keep staring at the halloween-costume Minnie I picked up this weekend and I think she's trying to hypnotize me to attend the party! I just don't know!

Just got home last night. We did MNSSHP Oct 1. We had SUCH a great time. We didn't do nearly everything we wanted. The lines for the characters were pretty long and it seemed every time we waited on one (the WHOLE trip) the characters would leave for their break when we got close. So, we don't have many character pics from the party. For some reason, they always said they'd be back in 15-20...where the rest of the trip they were always back in 5.

The parade was awesome. Not busy at all...we got stuck in the back of the castle and it wasn't that great. Next time we'll plan better and get a spot in the front. We got TONS of candy (including chocolate!!)...had to check the carry on filled w/ it. LOL There were NO waits on anything (except Peter Pan, of course, and that was only about 20min.)

We stayed til midnight and could've kept going. LOL My DD4 didn't want to leave.

The year we went to MVMCP, we actually went to 2 parties--after going to the first, we realized that we couldn't see all the shows, etc. so we bought tickets to a second party that week.

However, we've never had to go to a second MNSSHP (though we almost always have the opportunity). There aren't as many sit-down shows--it's more about seeing the parade, the fireworks, and the villians castle show. We like to do a lot of character-seaching, too, and shopping for special party-only stuff. If you love Halloween--go to the party! It is so much fun to run around in costume and see all the characters in costume, and the parade is awesome and the fireworks are the best at WDW in my opinion!

love the carriage photo...we were there at midnight and there was still a pretty long line and the photographer was still asking people to DO poses...multiple poses...it kinda' offended me! they were older teens and it was really madening watching him take 8+ photos of each girl b/c my 5 year old really wanted to do it!

when we went in at 4pm there were lots of MNSSHP people getting bands and going in!

did the photographer take 8+ photos of your dd?

what does age have to do with how many poses you get?

Disney is not just for young children. The love for Disney is shared by all ages.

I mean no disrespect to you but, part of life is learning patience and teaching patience to our children.
I am sure you dd got her turn and you have great memories from it

I know it is a lot of money right! Halloween is our wedding anniversary so I decided thats what we would do to celebrate! I agree with Minnie - you should try it!

Now I just need to find some cool Halloween mickey ears and convince DH to wear them.

Well said And I agree 100% I don't understand why a 5 year old should get more time than anyone else does or why a teenager should get less time just because they are a teenager.

I agree too! Me and my husband don't have children so we go to these parks and events and we take pictures with characters. We pay like everyone else, we wait like everyone else so why should be get less time?

Playing devil's advocate here ... I would have agreed with the OP that the photographer should not have been doing 8+ poses with individuals when it was midnight and there were tons of people in line (regardless of age). People pay a lot of money to attend these functions and they should do their best to let everyone have a turn (maybe only three poses/person when it's a popular character with a big line ) I too would have found this frustrating/disappointing.

Agreed, maiapapaya. I agree that it is frustrating when it happens. But if it does happen, it shouldn't matter if the person is 80, 18 or 8. Everyone should be treated the same. Just because there is a child age 5 waiting, doesn't mean that a 80 year old should move out of the way for this 5 year old. Disney is for all ages and good things, magical things should happen to all ages.

Oh ITA. Everyone pays the same to get in and everyone deserves an equal opportunity to share in the magic. Although a five year old probably feels the disappointment a lot more and doesn't understand missing out. I get why the OP might have been frustrated not that there were "older teens" getting their picture taken, but more with the fact that the photographer was taking their good sweet time with them - or adults or even other kids too (who yes, deserve the pictures just as much as her child) when there was a big line and that meant that her five year old would probably miss out. Some young children would be devasted not having their pictures done with a special character, or in this case, the carriage if she was a big Cindy fan.

Both parades, including the Headless Horseman, start in Frontierland. The Headless Horseman comes through around 15 to 20 minutes ahead of the parade.
