MNSSHP - ticket question

Just booked a trip for the end of September - I want to book the MNSSHP for our arrival night - do I need to buy a MK ticket for that day or will the party ticket get me in? In the past I believe if you had the party ticket, you were able to enter the MK anytime after 4pm without the theme park ticket for the day. We are staying 8 days from 9/23-9/30, but I only want to buy a 7 day ticket and use the MNSSHP for our first night without using a theme park ticket day. Is this possible?

I also added a little note to self in My Itinerary and listed party days as "non-park day". My reminder not to use my hopper on those days.
