Hello, we plan on going to the party on 26th September and just planning our outfits. My DD9 wants to go traditional and go as Minnie but my DS7 insists he wants to go as a roman!! It really isn't very Disney but there is no changing his mind!! Will he look out of place? Are there any Disney films with Romans in?? This is our first Halloween party :-) excited!
Thanks in advance

There are no rules that say you have to dress as something Disney related. Let the little guy go as a Roman. Just tell him to leave the sword and spear home :)

And isn't Hercules close enough? Greek, Roman, who can tell?

You do not have to dress as a Disney character. As someone who enjoys the party mainly for seeing other guest's creative costumes, I would encourage him to do something different, I get tired of trying to look around all the Jack Sparrows to see new ideas.

Follow the guidelines and you're all set.

Halloween costumes should NOT:

Obstruct the guest's view or interfere with their ability to board/unload from attractions and/or the Walt Disney World Resort transportation system (including monorails, ferry boats and motorcoaches).
Drag on the ground.
Contain sharp or pointed objects or material that may accidentally stike another guest.
Be offensive to other guests.
Contain any weapons which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.

No need to worry he will be fine. I am trying to think of a Disney movie with a roman in it but I'm not sure of one.

I have seen all sorts of costumes. They are even being more relaxed on the "Not so Scary" part since the past two years I have seen zombies and blood covered princesses.

Hercules is def pretty close!! I am so glad he isn't going to be out of place and that something a little different is appreciated :-) we are eating at CRT a few days before so thought he could use the sword from there? He is going to be chuffed!!

I'm actually a fan of non-Disney costumes at MNSSHP! Or at least creative ones if they are Disney-related. I like to see what people come up with.

Go ahead and use that sword. Disney sells swords all over the place; if they have a problem with one of their own that would just be silly. And the CRT sword is pretty small. In my 9 year old's hands it looked like Aragorn holding the sword Sting...looked very small!

My guy dressed as a Men In Black agent at the same MNSSHparty his second cousin dressed as Harry Potter. They had great fun doing that. (and when we passed by a "young Snape" and "Snape" sneered at "Harry" it was even better)

My boys have gone dressed as ninjas w/ double swords,, cowboys with spurs and guns, military w/ helmets, vests, guns...the only thing said was to pull the bandana on the cowboy costume down off his face when my son walked in with it up.

My son dressed as a Roman soldier last year (he was a character from Doctor Who). People loved it, but he definitely did not know how to sit in a "skirt"!

No need to be Disney-related, in fact, I don't recall that a majority of the costumes are (I'm not saying a majority are not, just that I don't recall). A few years ago at MNSSHP my DS was a vampire football player and my DD was a vampire cheerleader. I don't recall either of those being from a Disney movie (I could be wrong... maybe something from Tim Burton?)

... also, a Roman soldier IS Disney-related; I recall a story that one time Walt encountered a CM dressed as a Roman soldier passing through Disneyland after getting off work - part of his reason for retrofitting tunnels into the park.

We all went as Rapunzel, Flynn, Mother Gothel, and DS was a ruffian/thug. He had a Viking helmet and a massive plastic axe. He also carried a sword one year as a pirate. Your son will be fine.

We've never dressed in Disney-related costumes. Several years ago my DH went as Julius Caesar. Another year he was Napoleon (a little strange since DH is 6'1"! - ha!). I've gone as Cleopatra and a 50's girl before.

Last year we went in Star Trek uniforms.

There are Romans in Spaceship Earth (one being a repurposed Teddy Roosevelt from HoP). :thumbsup2

Show him this and see if he would like to be a Greek hero (similar to roman style.) Would be super cute if you got your daughter to be Meg too ;)

Not sure about any movies with romans in them, but he won't be out of place at all.

You see lots of people in Disney themed costumes of course, but there are tons of people who don't wear Disney costumes, so you'll be totally fine!

The story I've always heard is that he saw a CM dressed as a sheriff walking through Fantasyland because that was the only way to get from the costuming area to Frontierland. I can't imagine what land in Disneyland would've required a CM to dress like a Roman soldier, and I also wasn't aware that tunnels were retrofitted there.
