MNSSHP replaced by After Hours Event "Boo Bash"

I know multiple DVC members with reservations (including me!) who haven’t gotten the email. I’m trying not to worry though. I can’t imagine dvc properties wouldn’t be included in the early date.
We are DVC members, staying at AKL and BCV on points from 10/11-10/20. I got the email around 11AM this morning. If you are renting points I'm guessing it would be a different phone number since you need to be members to get Member Services to talk to you I think.
Something fun is brewing during your stay: Disney After Hours Boo Bash!, a hauntingly fun-filled three-hour event that begins when the Park closes. With Halloween-theme cavalcades and Character sightings, the ghouls are coming out to play!

As a Disney Resort hotel Guest, starting June 8 you have early access to book before tickets go on sale to the general public June 15!

I’m a member traveling on my own points for three trips. Still no email, though I get dvc spam about adding on more points pretty regularly!

Still no email for me and I have a DVC reservation through August 11th at BCV. Yes I want to get the email becaise I want to go. No I don't care to hear about how you think it's outrageously over priced and people like me prove to Disney they can charge what they want. Two years ago I spent 79 bucks for Early Morning Magic at HS for Toy Story Land and it was 90 minutes of 3 rides and a quick service breakfast. So yep...I'm gonna pay this on the hope it is like other AH. That said I can see how they are pricing some families out but youth sports does the same thing and there's less people outraged over that and those are supposed "not for profits."

We’re staying at CBR 10/26-11/06, and we haven’t gotten the email yet either. I’m sure we’ll see it sometime between now and June 7. If not, I’ll just send my TA an email to find out what’s up.

Like you, we want to go - either the 29th or 31st. Also like you, I don’t care to hear all the reasons why some people think we *shouldn’t* go. I can’t wait, and if spending $400 ensures all the Mickey bars I want, and all the line ups I don’t, then take my money!

As far as I’m concerned, Disney took a hit into the hundreds of millions, and like the rest of us they need to make up for that.

The Boo Bash pricing is a 50% increase over MNSSHP pricing for 2020 (Cheapest is $85 for MNSSHP 2020 versus $129 for Boo Bash) and 60% increase over MNSSHP pricing for 2019...

That seems outrageous, but with MNSSHP they sold 20,000 tickets each night. With typical After Hours events, they sell 5000 tickets. If they are planning to sell around that many tickets, it makes sense that they have to price it higher to justify the event - and the pricing is the same as a typical After Hours event (MK After Hours tickets ranged from $129 - $155 in 2019).

People are assuming based on Disney using the After Hours name that it will be more limited than MNSSHP and the price certainly suggests the same. I think it might be worth it to get the significantly lower crowds - especially if you want to go on rides. Not sure if the cost is justified if you just want candy - but you also get free popcorn, soda and mickey bars, so maybe don't eat dinner and fill up on that to justify the extra cost? :rotfl2:

No email here either about booking tickets early. We’re staying at AKL on rented DVC points during the week of the first party. Does anyone know the phone number to call on the 8th?

I think they should have charged 2K per person and had even fewer people ;)

Price to level of exclusion so that they can say it's a better experience for people who are willing to pay.

As you can see from this thread of Disney die hards, they've lost a bunch of people for this event, but enough will buy so they get more revenue with less people. This is the ideal situation for the company and the direction they are heading for the near future.

Making more money with less expenses is the perfect model.

There is a line somewhere though, and Chapek is going to snuggle right up to that line.

For some reason my email was in my spam folder. I just now found it. We are staying DVC but aren’t DVC owners just an FYI

I'm sure a lot of people will pay these prices and the events will sell out but when I think of what I can do for $600-$700 for my family of four, whether its a full day at Universal or some other experience that lasts far longer than 3 hours (plus 2 hours crowded together with other day guests), its a definite no for me. If people evaluate what makes sense for them and their families and come to a different conclusion, than great. To each their own.

My concern is that Disney will see this and come to the obvious conclusion that they can continue to charge more and more for what once was included (many of us will remember when the parks were open after midnight for on-site guests). If I'm there for 2 weeks and I don't want to pay for this event, than fine. I don't go. But all of a sudden, this starts to creep into other aspects of the vacation and other experiences (like paying $65 for "enhanced ride experiences"). Of course this has no bearing on what others are willing to shell out to buy smaller and smaller slices of the magic, and there will be many that say, "fine, don't go....more room for me" and I guess that is exactly what Disney wants. But this is a slippery slope and how long is it before they start charging for the buses or towels at the pools or even pool access (resorts fees)? Its really hard to feel the magic when you feel like you are being nickel-and-dimed all day long.

I think a lot of us will remember a time when we weren't constantly being marketed to, when we weren't just consumers useful only for buying what corporations produced. Almost every successful entrepreneur says that they never started their businesses with the sole intention of becoming rich. They saw a need in society and they knew how to fulfill that need. Walt Disney saw a need for parents to share in moments of enjoyment and fun together with their children. He fulfilled that need and that is why all of us have so many great memores together with our parents and now with our children. I know my dream this year is to sit in the lobby of the Grand Floridian and listen to the piano player play my father's favorite song like we did together 30 years ago (hopefully the piano will still be there!). Its hard to feel like those memories exist to be monetized.

My feeling is the company is too beholden to the shareholder, who demands ever increasing profits. But I think think the company needs to focus more on the concept of the stakeholder, which includes not just the shareholders but also the employees and the guests. We all have a stake in this company and while some of us may not own shares, we all have invested a lot in Disney. We don't go to maximize shareholder profit (They can do that with Disney+ now).

I've gone on a lot longer than I expected, but I guess my point is I've reached my limit in what I'm willing to pay and I wonder what the limit will be for everyone else. If current trends continue, we are certainly going to find out.

everything you’ve said sounds reasonable to me. My perspective on buying tickets is different because even though I used to go to wdw at least every other month, I havent been since November 2019. I only have a few weeks this summer where my whole family is available for activities like this. We can’t just go spend the $600 at universal because I’ve already scheduled all of our vacation time. We could save the $600 or use it towards something else (V&A, please open soon!!) but the trade-offs are different for everyone. I expect that the limited tickets are truly limited and the event is what it promises, but after the last school year I’m happy to buy this for my kids! I will be thrilled when my purchasing patterns are back to more normal trade-offs, but for now I’m definitely part of the pent up demand.

Totally understand and each family's situation is different. I'm not judging anyone's decision because we all decide what we are willing to do to make those memories for our kids. Disney is definitely betting on that pent up demand and there is no doubt that they are going to sell those tickets. There a lot of people who haven't spent any money on vacations in a long time and also have stimi money on top of that. I am definitely dying to go since I've already cancelled 3 times and planned this trip 4 times.

Anyway, have a great time and I hope they only sell out and not over sell it.

It's hard to say, really, but the fact is prices have been going up and so has attendance (outside of the pandemic). It's been happening for a while. Supply and demand economics are at work. I'm not necessarily saying it's a good thing, but it is what it is. I seriously doubt Disney will have trouble selling tickets to this thing.
Yeah, if this past year has taught us anything, it's that people are ignorant so, no doubt this will be the "new normal" as far as parties go at WDW. lol

So I'm in the position where I feel I have to go. I have young kids and I'm specifically taking them to Disney for Halloween. That means I will need to she'll out $1000 for my family of five to go unless I want to take them trick or treating randomly around Orlando, which wouldn't fly since they knew we were going to Disney to trick or treat. The kicker is my kids will be 8, 5, and 3 so staying up that late is a real challenge. It's a catch 22.
I wouldn't exactly say that you "have to" spend that kind of money if you don't want to. I mean you could simply explain to the kids that it's far more expensive than you expected and it starts too late so you're doing something different.

Yea prices have been going up for everything everywhere. From the grocery store to the salons to entertainment venues.

Disney is playing everyone for fools like always because people will buy tickets and go .......

Being able and willing to pay the prices as they are set is not a function of ignorance or foolishness, it is simply a matter of economics and perceived value. Just because some people find it worthwhile to go to Disney or buy tickets for an event when you don't does not mean that they are less intelligent. People spend tons of money to attend a concert or a sporting event, but I wouldn't because I don't really enjoy those things. I don't think those people are stupid though - they just like a band or a football game more than I do. It's their money, not mine.
