***MNSSHP! Let's get excited together!***

Ok. . .if my friend and I get to go to WDW (waiting for the FD announcement), we plan on attending MNSSHP. My friend says she has a pirate costume she wants to wear. That leaves me. Hmm. . . I've been trying to come up with something cool (temperature), and I'm not having much luck. When I look online, I find lots of great costumes, but they are either pricey or made for someone who is a size 0. I'm not a large woman, but I'm curvy (more fat than God-given!). I can't decide what to wear.

Ok. . .here is my question. What do people go as? Do adults dress up, and what is acceptable?

Thanks

O.K. I have been to Disney 3 times but we have never done the Halloween party. I know it starts at 7:00 and ends at 12:00. It sounds like I need to make a dinner reservation around 5:00 somewhere in MK. At 7:00 do they have a big start to the party like a parade or something? What time do they have the fireworks and parade? I am sorry if this sounds dumb but I have never been and don't know what to expect. THANK YOU!!!!:confused3

Just wanted to let you all know that I have started a MNSSHP Guest List thread! Link in my siggie!

You could make your reservations in the MK or even a resort on the monorail line if you like. Last year we had a late lunch around 2:30 at Tony's, headed back to our hotel for a swim and shower, put on our costumes and headed to MK around 6pm. Then later on in the evening we had a quick bite at Casey's Corner. It's another nice option as well.

This is what last year's schedule of events was:

  • Trick or Treating throughout the evening
  • Mickey's "Boo to You" Parade @ 8:15 pm and 10:30 pm
  • Happy Hallowishes Fireworks @ 9:30 pm
  • Character Dance Parties in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland
  • Disney's Villains Mix & Mingle @ 7:45, 9:00, 10:05 and 11:15 pm
  • Special Disney Character Appearances throughout the park

There's no big kick off type when the party starts. My guess is that they're still trying to get non party guests out of the park. But you're free to get in a ride or two before the first event starts since you'll have your party bracelets.

Last year we saw lots of different costumes. From pirates, prisoners, princesses. All from adults. My favorite was the 2 guys in housecoats, curlers in their hair and slippers! Most costumes are acceptable as long as they don't offend adults or children. I'm sure that if you will come up with something creative and in your budget! Maybe whip out those Disney movies and get the creative juices flowing. You may not even need to purchase a costume.
Last year we got lucky because there was a costume store by my house that was going out of business and got a great bargain but, this year we're struggling a bit trying to come up with something.

On page 8 of this thread i posted my pics from 2007 and 2009's MNSSHP. We went the first year in 50's garb (poodle skirts, etc) and last year we went as super heroes.

I got both of my costumes from BuyCostumes.com. If you try and shop early (and sign up for their newsletters) you can get some great deals. I had to pay full price my poodle skirt costume because I bought it in September. However, I got my Wonder Woman costume for about 35% off because I bought it in July, I think. You can search around on their website - they have some really good costumes on there. I am also "curvy" and had to make sure I got something comfortable. I have to say, the Wonder Woman costume was by far the most 'cool' temperature wise, but the poodle skirt was the most comfortable all around.

Here are some tips that I've picked up over the last 3 parties:

- If you hair covers your neck (i.e anything longer than a pixie cut) wear it up. If it's naturally wavy or curly, don't bother trying to straighten it because it was so humid mine just curled right back up again.

- Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT think that you can get away with wearing any type of heels because you'll only be there for a few hours. My feet were KILLING me by the time we got from Pop to the MK. Thankfully I brought flip flops, but I was pretty sure I was going to pass out from the pain while waiting in line to meet Minnie.

- Try your costume on when you get it and make sure it fits and that it goes on/comes off easily. My boyfriend's Green Lantern costume looked fabulous but it took FOREVER to get it on him right (the chest piece refused to line up), it was safety pinned 3 ways from Sunday, and when all was said and done, we realized there was no way for him to use the little boys room without taking the whole thing off.

- Get your costume tailored if need be. I wish I had taken my Wonder Woman costume to get tailored. The problem with "plus size" costumes is that they are always too big in one are or another. Mine fit fine in the hips but was too big in the waist and hence, caused the top to keep moving around.

Hope this helps! Have fun! :thumbsup2

This year will be 3rd MNSSHP for DD and I. Had to practically drag her the first year, now it's a must, we LOVE it. This year we are planning on Sept. 14 if dates go as planned. This is going to make for a CRAZY day. It's DD's birthday, we have 8 am ADR for CRT and we ALWAYS eat at Rainforest Cafe on her b-day (tradition started 5 years ago so no dodging it now.) I'm thinking CRT, then rope drop at Toon Town to see the fairies, back to resort for rest, early dinner at DTD Rainforest then back to MK. Holy Cow that looks scary when I type it out! I had hoped to fit in a trip to the MK Barbershop to have DD's hair glittered but I don't know. Seems like if we did it in the morning she would either mess it up at mandatory nap or refuse to lay down at all. :confused3

So glad I found this post!! How exciting! We are going to our first ever MNSSHP. This will be the first time going in the fall. We love Halloween and my dd10 thinks about the party every day. She already knows she wants to be the dead bride from the Haunted Mansion. My dd6 wants to be Princess Tiana and my dd8 doesn't have a clue yet. I'm assuming she'll pick a princess costume as well.
I make T-shirts for Disney and I'll do orange tank tops with MNSSHP designs on them for me, dh, and ds13.
I believe i'm going to make bags too. FUN FUN!!!!

We are planning on going to the September 21st MNSSHP! Hopefully those dates are correct, cause that works out good for us!

I'm so much more excited after reading this post now!

Boo to you!

Boo to you!

Weird that there's none on Halloween night. I don't believe that.

Yessss my date is on there! Thanks so much for posting, I will still wait to do a happy dance for the official release but am happy to see this!

I think that they said that Oct 30, 31 and Nov 1 was not listed yet but that it was just an oversight on somebody's part and they will post them at a later date. If I can find out any more info then I will post again.

Somehow when I copied the report the first time it cut off the bottom part of the report. Sorry about that!

You may have noticed that we do not have dates listed for October 30 and 31. These were explicitly left off the list we were provided and we suspect it’s an oversight somewhere and those dates will be included at the formal announcement, but for now, this is all we were given.

As always, dates are subject to change at any time. We have no additional information regarding pricing and ticket availability as of yet, but we expect tickets to go on sale May 1, 2010.

Hello Everyone! :wave2:

We are going to our very first MNSSHP this year. We are travelling Oct 11-18th, and it will be just me (mom) and DS 8yo. This will be our second 'mommy and son' trip and I cannot wait!! On our last trip we did MVMCP and really enjoyed it, although it was quite cool weather-wise while we were down there. I am thinking about either dressing up or having matching shirts and getting our faces painted for the MNSSHP. Anyone have any ideas for a 'mom and son' theme costume (or old lady and pain the butt kid LOL). Appreciate all the info on this thread and am looking forward to planning along with y'all (yes, I did pick up the southern twang from the DIS ;)).

We are arriving on 10/19...our flight lands at 2:15pm...I think we're going to go to the party that night and then again on the 26th! So excited! Still working on costume ideas though....

I believe I read that tickets go on sale May 1st. Can you purchase the tickets on line or must you call Disney directly?

Yes, you can (eventually) buy the tickets online. It usually takes longer for them to show up online though. Sometimes weeks later.

We will be there 10/15-10/23 -- We are thinking about going to MNSSHP on October 19th -- Does anyone know what time you can enter the park and start riding the rides? Or are you not allowed in until 7:00? :woohoo:
