MNSSHP first timers advice

DH and I will be going in late October. We are in our early 40's and traveling sans kids. We were a bit worried about attending but everyone on this board said it was a great time and decided to go for it! We planned on wearing costumes (50's style) but saw pics of past years and it looked like everyone in costume was either college/teen age or families with younger kids. Will we be out of place, should we get a trick or treat bag (DH is a big kid that didnt have a great childhood and is now having the time of his life making up for lost time), will CM's give DH candy or just think he has "issues"? We go to the world to be kids again but are we pushing it? Help!

You won't be out of place at MNSSHP. People of all ages get dressed up. Some guests wear something really simple, others wear really elaborate costumes. Disney will give you trick or treat bags and everyone, young, old, and in between, can go trick or treating. One of the highlights of MNSSHP is having character meet and greets with characters that aren't always available. Last year, Snow White and all 7 dwarfs were available for photos, as well as Cinderella's Carriage. And you don't have to be a kid to stand in line for these photo opportunities.

Disney is a place for children of all ages, so if you want to do costumes. . . go for it! We have been to MNSSHP twice (and will be there again in October) with our DS5. We have not done costumes, but we have seen lots of adults without children in costume. I don't think the CM's will pass any judgement. It will be just like waiting to have your picture taken with Mickey. . . it's Disney!!

They will give you a small bag as you enter, they won't think you are strange and many couples go and dress up.

You won't be out of place at all. We went twice to MNSSHP on our trip. Just in case we missed anything the first time. Lucky we paid for two nights, my daughter got sick on of the nights and we had to leave early.

My DH and I don't have kids, and we've gone to MNSSHP the past two years. It's been really hot during the parties we've gone to, so we've worn Halloween t-shirts and shorts instead of full costumes.

Trick or treating is our favorite part of the night! We feel like kids again, and we have a ball interacting with the CMs. We love it!

You will not be judged whatsoever for dressing up. We have been to four of the Halloween parties now, and you will see people of all ages dressed up. That is one of the highlights of the evening is seeing all the different kinds of costumes. As for the trick or treating, everyone is welcome to do it. I am 37, and always get my trick or treat bag upon entry. That night everyone trick or treats! You will have a blast!

DH (77) and I (63) attended our first MNSSHP last year after going to WDW in Oct. for many years. We, too, decided to listen to other DISers who said it would be fun and we LOVED it. We did not wear costumes but I would love to do so. We saw many folks of all ages in costume and everyone ADMIRES those people because they are part of what makes MNSSHP such a great event. We arrived at 4:00 and took photos and had a bite to eat. We got in line at 6:30 to have photo with the 7 dwarfs (no Snow White the night we were there) and the CMs were most obliging. We used the bags given to us to go trick-or-treating and we certainly did not get any funny looks when we did so. We adored the parade and fireworks. I don't think we did any rides. We can do them anytime with our APs. We took more photos on the way out.
It was MNSSHP that made us decide to bring the whole family this year. We will be there Oct. 22 - 29 with 19 other family members and we are really looking forward to it.

Oh my goodness you are going to have a WONDERFUL time - wear the costumes! Lots of adults do so.

The great thing about MNSSHP (been 4 times) is that its more about the party and the fun then about the rides. Yes you can still ride HM and BTM but the night is about the dance parties (the one in Tomorrowland is great ) and the trick-or-treating and the special parade (be sure to see that - go to the second showing if your kids are old enough) and the fireworks and Main Street all green, orange and purple.

As you can see I love it. And WDW CMs know all about us adults taking time to be kids again.

I just wanted to repeat something mentioned in one post above - chances are it will be quite warm - actually HOT - even on Halloween night - so make sure your costumes are light!

Go and have fun! DMom was 84 when she went trick or treating for her first time ever! She wore a chef's hat and apron, nothing elaborate, and our pictures from that night are priceless!

Thanks for all the great words of encouragement! We can't wait, we are wearing costumes that shouldn't be too hot so at least we should be good there. Now comes the hard part, keeping DH of eating all of his "treats" in one night!

We are visiting October 23-28! Just DH and I, we are bringing the whole crew (15+ folks so far) in December!

You won't be out of place at all... We went last year in costume and had a blast... The people NOT in costume seemed out of place... I will say that I was not only impressed with the number of people in costume, but how elaborate many of them were...
