MNSSHP 2014: What's YOUR Costume?

To be clear to a post from earlier, masks are perfectly fine as long as they do not impede your vision. I wore a full Batman mask last year and never took it off, I was never challenged. I made it carefully with my vision in mind and could see better than a person with standard glasses on.

This isn't a reply to smitch's post with her kids' costumes, she's been to more of these than I have and has a lot more experience. You can see that they also don't mind masks that easily pull back for when you're moving around.

We finally figured out our costumes. DD10 is going to be Aurora in part blue, part pink dress and then my sister will go as the pink fairy and I will go as the blue fairy. My dd is making her dress with help from grandma. She is becoming a good little sewer. She made a beautiful dress for 4-H fair this year.

She picked out light weight material so her dress shouldn't be too hot. My sister and I are just going to make tutus and where them along with t-shirts and shorts/capris.

This will be our first time attending MNSSHP. Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I'm hoping it will be a lot of fun. I have purchased a red dress with white polka dots, and I have my glittery Minnie ears with the red bow to wear. I am not sure what shoes I'm going to wear yet. I am going with comfort over cute or something that matches the costume. More important that my feet are comfortable and I can handle all the walking. I have no idea if my friend will be dressing up or not. She said I need to think of something for her. Lol. I say she needs to figure out something that she likes. We are flying and only bringing carry-ons, so it cannot take up too much space. She isn't someone that wears printed t-shirts or the fun hats or ears or anything, so I have no clue what she is going to do.

can you try to have her do a simple Mouseketeer costume since you are Minnie?

we're going mid Sept so planning for the heat! T shirt based costumes, but inspired by the Lego movie. Wonder Woman (me), Batman (H), 1980s Space Guy (13), Wild Style (10), and Emmett (5). I have also color coordinated/named our magic bands for our costumes this trip!!

I am slowly piecing things together from goodwill (and 4th of July sales for wonder woman), so no photos yet!

LOVE Ironman and Capt America!!

Nice, you even coordinated your magic bands! :thumbsup2 Which version of Wonder Woman? The leotard or pants (normal vs injustice)?

My friends and I are going on 9/28 and we're going as the Avengers! We have Ironman, Captain America, and I'm gonna be Thor. We're all making ourselves these fun tutus, and we're gonna wear custom bows and shirts to match our character! Oh, and I'm gonna have a cape and Thor's hammer of course ^_^

LOVE Ironman and Capt America!!

Thanks! We do our magic bands to match our costumes, too. Last year they said Soos, Wendy, Dipper and Mabel (we went as the cast of Disney Channel's Gravity Falls) on the back, and this year's say Thor, Widow, Iron Man and Cap. Fortunately, we have a two night stay before our FD package begins, so we will also get a set with our real names. :rotfl:

Can't wait to see your costumes! Be sure to sign up in my guest list thread! Here is the link...

We went as characters from Doctor Who last year, and it was so much fun! The cast members really got into it :)

(Sorry about the huge photos, I can't figure out how to make them smaller!)

I LOVE your pink/blue dress and pink/blue fairies idea!!

I am also teaching DGrD10 how to sew this summer (it's our summer project:goodvibes) - she wanted to be Elsa, so she is designing and making her own Elsa dress (without the sleeves or bodice and out of lightweight fabric for the heat). I found a simple sleeveless linen dress that we are going to dye moss green and cut the long bottom off of to make a small cape for my Bulda costume (Kristoff's troll mother). DGrD is also helping me make a pink crystal necklace. I just loved the idea of pulling my hair on top of my head and sticking a few puffy flowers in it. lol

We have done a few MNSSHPs together over the years and the heat has always been key - I almost melted the year I went as Ursula to her Ariel - and I had even cut the sleeves off. Do not underestimate the September heat and humidity even at night - it can be brutal!

This year will be my third MNSSHP, first year my dh and I were tacky tourists, last year my mom and I went as Hawaiian girls. This year I'm going with my bf and we are going as Lumiere and Clocksworth. Super excited for it!!!!!!

I'm not the biggest Doctor Who fan, but that's pretty fantastic. :thumbsup2

Working on convincing my friends to do a Beagle Boys group costume.

I've not decided yet. I have a Merida costume I had made for DragonCon, it's not the lightest thing, but I did walk around outside downtown Atlanta for 4 days in it in August without issue. And the heat didn't bother me at all.

My hair is much longer and a lighter red now.

This year, due to the anticipated heat in September, we went with Goofy and Donald. T-shirts, shorts, corresponding hats.

Our current plan is for the 4 of us to dress as summer snowmen. That said, it could change prior to Sep 26th when we're there!

I seriously am getting more & more excited for MNSSHP as the days go on!! Spent most of yesterday listening ot all the music :rotfl: We're also about 1 week away from getting in our silly girl costumes, I'm 2 weeks away from getting Peri in, and it's super exciting! Also realized I have pictures of the Esmerelda I'm using for one of our parties:

Used it for the 24 hr event earlier this year and LOVED it!

I finally got DD to decide on a costume! She was insisting on going as Elsa but I employed a little mommy white lie and told her long dresses weren't allowed because they aren't safe. (The Elsa dress my mom made her is floor length, with a slightly longer cape attached to the back. So I would legitimately be afraid she'd spend the evening tripping over it.)

So DD5 is going as Alice in Wonderland, the baby will be the Queen of Hearts, and I think DW and I are going to do Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. My mom is taking care of the girls' dresses so I just need to do the Tweedle costumes. I figure red shorts/capris, yellow t-shirts, red caps, and then somehow do a blue bow tie. I'm so not crafty and can't sew so I'm glad I came up with something easy!
