When it comes to bagels, I am a traditionalist. Not unexpected, considering my uncle was a bagel baker. Had a shop on 2nd Avenue under the Roosevelt Island tram. I think I am genetically programmed to crave a good bagel.

This morning's bit of heaven was an "everything" with cream cheese and lox.

My boyfriend's concoction, however. . .

A salt bagel with strawberry cream cheese, lox and bacon. Yes, bacon.

So, what do you put on a bagel?

Cream cheese, lox, chopped purple onion and capers on my wife's homemade bagels. :cloud9:

Growing up with a Jewish family in the Chicago suburbs, lox and bagels was a staple Sunday brunch at our house. My toppings were lox, cream cheese, red onion, tomato, and cucumber.

Sadly, I moved to Wisconsin and married into a Lutheran family. There's no such thing as a good bagel in northern WI. Whenever we go back to visit, bagels and Portillos are a must!!

LOL, when I was going to college in Upstate NY we always asked our parents to bring Long Island bagels. We used to call them "Guyland bagels."

I feel your pain.

Everything bagel with cream cheese. My husband likes a NJ staple: Taylor ham, egg and cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup.
Sometimes replaces the Taylor ham with bacon. Not a fan of bagel sandwiches , I only like cream cheese on my bagels.

I like bagels, usually either buy bagel thins or the smaller bagels rather than full size though.

I like to put flavored cream cheeses like strawberry, pumpkin, and onion & chives on them after toasting.

Love smoked salmon, but not on a bagel. Just plain, with cream cheese, red onion and capers.

Salt bagel with a schmear! I sorely miss going in my local deli on the way to high school and getting bagel and a coffee-dark. We have a great little local place here though owned by a couple from Hoboken. They swear they import water down here straight from the Hudson River, and that's why their bagels taste "real" :thumbsup2

Bacon, Egg and Cheese!

Or Creamed Cheese on an everything or cinnamon raisin!

Oy, this brings me back to BROOKLYN! ;)

Growing up the only thing I liked on a bagel is butter (or buttah as we say in Bklyn) because I couldn't stand cream cheese OR lox. I was the one stand out! ;)

I have to say that while it's odd, I like making breakfast sandwiches with scrambled eggs on a cinnamon raisin bagel. It's a completely bizarre combo, I know, but I've always enjoyed the mix of savory and sweet.

I like cinnamon raisin bagels with butter or cream cheese. Once in awhile, I'll have it with DH's homemade veggie cream cheese.

Love a "white Russian" bagel, pumpernickel covered with sesame seeds, with plain cream cheese. Also, during the holidays Safeway (and Randalls & Tom Thumb have also) makes a specialty cream cheese with cranberries and orange, very yummy! I bought several extra cream cheeses this year since they are good for a few months.

Usual is an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. But sometimes I'll have an everything with vegetable spread, lox spread or lox and cream cheese.

Everything bagel with a little bit of cream cheese (flavored or plain), plus tomato, cucumber and raw onion.

Or a toasted bagel with butter.

I never even heard of a bagel until I went to college. I'm sure they were always available in South Jersey, but my parents never bought them.
