MM Warriors Part Deux (As of October 27)

Sherry: I'll let the others tell you their various reasons for going back to Step 1, which were mostly health related. Step 2 didn't seem to kick in for me until the 5th week. I didn't feel bad or bloated, but I saw my size begin to change again around week 5, so hang in there! Step 1 isn't healthy for life, so we need to learn this WOE now for our health. You can post what you are using for your 11 -20's and your sample menu to see if anyone has any pointers.:wizard:

Nell - that is not right about the appointment! they should have told you about maybe not being able to drive afterwards! Hopefully they will get it all straight soon. So GOOD to hear you are so upbeat and energetic!! Sounds like step 2 is agreeing with you!!

Sherry - I went back to step 1 due to blood sugar...when I started step 2 I was basically so worried about getting my 11-20 carb dams in, that it seemed like I wasnt eating any other food! I felt totally stuffed and not hungry. Then I was eating bananas and some other stuff that was high glycemic index for a type 2 diabetic. So Diane returned me to step 1 for 30 days, everything is good now, and I have a much better step 2 plan now, that Diane helped me put together. To avoid having to throw 11-20 carb dams in all the time I have a strict eating schedule, every 5 hours, including an 11-20 at each time...8:30am, 1pm, 5:30pm, 10:30pm, then I set my alarm and get up at 3:30 am...that middle of the night snack really helped me even with my step 1 re-run. So I just have a regular step 1 meal and include an 11-20 like 1 fruit, legal crackers, or 1/2 cup brown rice or pasta. At the 10:30 pm I am on my way to the gym from work, so I have a string cheese and crackers in the car. I think one of the keys is to be sure to eat protein with your carbs so you arent just eating carbs all day like I was doing. I'm trying to stay away from high glycemic fruits like bananas, and sticking with unsweetened applesauce for now, which is easy since they come in the little 1/2 cup serving sizes. I did feel pretty bloated and "full" when I started step 2 before, and it lasted almost a whole week. Today is only day 2 of Step 2 this time, and I DID feel kinda lousy yesterday, must have been my liver filling up with glycogen...but today I feel great, no bloating or anything. And of course the exercise is a HUGE thing...gotta get in that 30 minutes minimum, at least 5 days a week. I have noticed a big difference in my clothes etc since I joined the gym.

Thanks Robin. I sent the info to Nell. I measured only my waist and it is still the same as it was at the beginning of Step 2. I had a one inch loss during Step 1. I'm not a scale person - it can literally make or break my day, so I've learned it's better to avoid it all together.

Last time I was at the dr. in May the scale number was the highest it's ever been in my entire life. I've been dieting and exercising for the past 6 years since I stopped smoking. I did Chalean Extreme and P90X back to back beginning in January of this year. I finished P90X at the end of August. I still couldn't do a pull-up and the Abs routine made me nauseous, so I really didn't do that one. My weight still didn't budge. When I started MM I really cried when after only 6 days I could see a difference and feel so much better.
Once I get a job I want to get a personal trainer who can help me get into a running routine. I've never been a runner, but always wanted to be one.

Sherry - When I started Step 2 I couldn't get the timing and/or the food right. I was so concerned about the 11-20 that I started going overboard. Cravings started kicking in that I hadn't had at all in Step 1. I gave into them:sad2:. I was like that for 3 weeks. This past Sunday I began Step 1 again and will continue for the next 30 days.

Hey, Robin: The unsweetened applesause has 9 sugar grams, according to the Daily Plate, and a 1/2 medium banana has 7 grams. 1/2 small has 6, according to Wikianswers. I was thinking of changing to the applesauce so I looked it up.

Diane, when did you start MM?

Just stopping in briefly to try and read a few posts. My glasses broke yesterday and I'm on to my sunglasses (the only other prescription glasses I have) for the next 2 weeks until my new pair comes in. It's pretty hard to see the computer screen with single vision lens when I'm used to progressive ones. My family is laughing at me because I look like some kind of druggie hiding behind dark glasses. My 1yr grandson was scared when he first saw me come into his room until I lifted the glasses and he could see that it was his mam mam.

I will be kind of quiet here as it is so difficult to read and type with these on. Hope I don't miss out on too much.

Beverly, Glad the results on your right "you know what" came out negative. Hooray!

To all you other MMers, Have a great day and I hope that God is with you in all you do today.

Love you,
Carol

Kate and Jocelyn: There's a new store in Murphy's that's 100% purses! I have to have one with two pouches on the outside for my phone and keys. Found two like that there. Hang on for Feb!:yay:

Wow! Sounds like fun.:yay:

Robin - you had me mixed up with Kathy and Pam this morning - but thats OK. It wasn't that late when I was knitting and I LOVE purses, but have way too many in hubby's opinion.

Nell, sorry you had to cancel the appointment - how long until another one?

The hutch sounds lovely - how lucky!

:welcome:Diane! It's good to see you again. Enjoy your time on Step 1 and we'll help you with Step 2 when you get there again.

Jocelyn: I'd love to have that pattern for the afghan, if it is crochet. I don't knit well. My bonus room is my retreat and it's done in a sea theme.

It's knitted, but not difficult once you get the pattern down. I have done a lot of knitting, though.

Welcome, Diane. The people on step 2 will be a great help to you.

Thanks Lisa, Robin & Diane! Very helpful! I think I am doing the same thing as Diane and Robin! I feel like I am eating all the time and a lot of carbs and not much of anything else. I'm going to make an adjustment to my eating schedule so I do not need to do the carb dams and see if that helps. My schedule is pretty flexible so I see if that works better for me. Thank you all for your wonderful support, I don't know that I would have been able to stick with this WOE without all of you!

Thanks for the info to get added to the Christmas card list Robin!

Have a great day everyone!

Sherry

I am feeling a whole lot better on step two. I'm not sure why my experience seems to be different than everyone else's. I don't think I'm doing anything different. My average is about 15 carbs for my carb dams. I have to set my alarm to wake me twice during the night 4.5 hours apart and I have a dam ready. Maybe it's because my insulin resistance was so severe? And I'm comparing the way I feel now to the way I felt before? I have more energy on step two and my mood has improved also.

Sherry, my husband has to eat lunch rather early most days since his day starts so early so he eats an apple in the afternoon. I usually need to put in an extra 11 - 20 because dinner is usually about 6 1/2 hours from lunch. I think it's kind of normal to have this happen, especially if you want a social life in the evening with friends.

Not sure Jocelyn. The way the VA does it is they send you a letter telling you when to be there. :) Kind of like your still in the Army.

Oh, with the applesauce, I put a dash of benefiber it it, a little sweetener and some cinnamon. I think that lowers the carb impact slightly.

Nell, that's fantastic! I'm happy beyond words that you are feeling so well! :banana:We have turned into such clock watchers! I eat my middle of the night snack between 2 and 3 and then I take my thyroid at 5 with some water so I can make sure and eat within an hour of waking. It's a good thing we're not on a bunch of pills or we'd never be able to keep track of it all, lol!:confused3

WTH made me go look at the new thread? I haven't in weeks, but Diane mentioned it on her blog and got me curious. They stole our name! MM Warriors! Georgia Lee has opened an All Steps Chat. Is that the definition of irony? She and KW are the moderators for the whole thing. Do you think it could be a coincidence that they stole our name?? In truth, I don't care, I guess.

OMG Jocelyn, I am so sorry! I guess I was still asleep when I read the posts!!

Lisa - well I guess I am going to have to go read my applesauce label now...it was Diane that told me the banana might not be the best choice of fruit...I thought my applesauce had no sugars at all, but:confused3 - not getting off to that wrong start already!! LOL, Thanks for catching me quick!!

Nell - its amazing how much we are all the same, but still so very different. It is GREAT that Step 2 is agreeing with you and I am determined to find a way to make it work for me too, since we will be on this step for so long!! I know that last attempt I was feeling pretty full and bloated by day 2 and I dont seem to feel that way today, so hopefully that is a good sign!

Sherry - you can do it! If you have that much flexibility in your schedule see if you can try setting up those every 5 hours eating times...it really helped me alot. My 3:30am snack is one cup of skim milk, so it goes down quick and easy and I get right back to sleep. I try to get veggies into the three main "meals" at 8:30, 1, and 5:30, then have that string cheese with my crackers on the way to the gym, so I am never eating carbs without some protein too. And I still have the two free 5x5 if I need them, or any other legal foods like Atkins shakes, cottage cheese, celery with cream cheese, etc if I need a "snack" in between anytime!

Diane - Sounds like you just need to get a good step 1 month going, then we can help you get step 2 started off right this time! Hang in there, you know this plan works! I seriously have just recently started seeing some inch loss in my waist and hips...most of my losses have been in my thighs, butt, wrists, fingers, feet, etc!! I think I am almost ready to go down a second pant size, so that will be a great day! But I have been doing the plan with NO CHEATS at all since beginning of august too! I have only weighed a couple times, at the doc's office, since I seriously do not care about the scale numbers, I am more interested in a certain "feeling" and clothes sizes than numbers. It was nice to see that pound loss at the end of step 1, since I was so convinced I wasnt losing, but I really do think I have an understanding about MM now that I didnt then...it is very individual, (like us), and there is that up and down thing that Diane says us Met B's are just going to have all our lives! So when I have a FLUFFY day now, I know that the next day it will pass...no big deal.

Hi Carol! :cool2: sorry you're having eyeglass trouble!

Lisa - I saw it too, but dont worry about it! dont forget that WE are the GERIATRIC MM WARRIORS!! They are the newbie warriors and most likely to go down in battle, as evidenced by their scattered threads and dis-organization, while we are the ELDERS...calm, efficient, organized and VICTORIOUS in the end!! GO!! GERIATRIC MM'S!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Good late afternoon everyone!!

Diane, so good to see you!! Welcome home and be sure to check out all the smilies!

Still feeling a little tired today. I fell asleep last night about 8:30!! I think the time change is messing with me a bit.

Nell, sorry the appt got changed. Hopefully it won't be too long until Marti can get there. Keeping you both in my prayers. I noticed you said about your mood changing. Did you suffer from depression? It is almost non-existant for me now. That is a miracle by alone!

Ok, have to get to the bank. Catch up with you all later.

Robin: Maybe it depends on the brand of applesauce? Let me know. I still think it might be a good snack for Tom in the afternoon. He's realy enjoying the Orowheat whole grain sandwich thins. Likes his turkey burgers on them.

Hope everyone has a really nice evening. It's gorgeous here and we are brining in a load of redwood shred this evening to top dress the beds before it rains this weekend. If Bonnie gets muddy feet, my day is much harder, lol! It's pretty cute how she knows to show me, though.
