MK Xmas Decorations and Parade Taping

I thought I read somewhere that some of the MK Christmas decorations come down before the Christmas Parade taping at the beginning of December. Does anyone know what comes down and when they do this?

I remember hearing that too although I am not 100% sure if it is true. I believe it is the wreaths that are above main street so that it doesnt get in the way.

All of the decorations at the Magic Kingdom are up by Thanksgiving. Most of the resorts start around the beginning of November. The Osborne lights go up alot sooner, as there are so many.

None of the decorations are removed for the parade, as none of the floats go that high. Parts of the parade are usually taped during the first weekend of December. Several parts are taped in other parks both at WDW, as well as DL. The taping of the parade is a long process and you will stand in the same spot for several hours watching the same thing over and over, so that it can be taped at different angles. Tried this twice. The first time it was ok, but by hour 4 on the second time, I was done. Main Street is PACKED while the parade is being taped. Also, the whole parade is not taped at once, but rather, they will tape separate sections, then put them all together on tv. How it's shown on tv is not how it is taped.

Is the park closed while they tape the parade, or can you go on rides?

No the park is not closed and yes you can go on all the rides!!!! My suggestion would be if parade taping is going on is to not even attempt to walk down mainstreet. Hop on the train and take it to any of the stops to avoid the hell that is parade taping

Park is open.

All of the attractions are running.

Certain areas may be blocked off due to the parade, so you will have to detour.

My MIL would love to go the parade taping. Can anyone go or is it a special ticket event?

Yes you have to make arrangements inadvance I believe to be in the parade taping. Although it is not a special ticket to get into the parks etc.

Nope. None of the decorations come down before christmas. That would be sad if they did. You should go see the tapings though... it's fun! Anyone can go. They make you line up on Main Street USA and you can't tough the pavement you have to stand on the walkway. It's more fun when it's not raining. The camera man was going along the people who were standing on both side of Main Street.

Actually that is incorrect. Last year thr garland and wreaths that go over Main Street were removed for the taping of the parade. This was done so they would not block the castle from the new stage location which was in Town Square. Additionally the MK Christmas tree was put up in the rose garden for the parade taping, and moved to its normal location in town square after the parade had been taped.

Wait- so the trees not in main street at all until after the parade? What about the garland- do they just wait to hang it or move it a few days before?

It changes yearly. I don't know what there plan for this year is yet. Last year the garland was put up then removed for a few days for filming and then put back up after filming. The tree was put up in the rose garden to begin with and then moved to its normal location after filming. There is no way to know yet what they will do this holiday season. It all depends on where the decide to film from and where they decide to put the hosts.
