Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster - finally signed up today. :)

We are saving up for a week-long family Disney trip in a few years, but our family of 4 will be in Florida next week, and on a budget. We are staying off-resort and were planning to take our 4 and 8 yr old kids to the Magic Kingdom for one day.

We were originally planning to go to MK on Weds, Aug 31st, but I just read that it is an Extra Magic Hours night that day (reg park hours 9am-9pm with EMH from 9pm-11pm). Our kids will likely run out of gas by 9pm, but I've read that there are often bigger crowds in the park that has Extra Magic Hours - and the crowds can hit long before the Extra Magic Hours begin. Some opinions advise staying away from parks that have PM EMH's...

So... my question: Should we stick with our plan and go Weds, Aug 31st to MK (a PM EMH day) or should we alter our plans and go to MK on another day to avoid the EMH crowd?, At this time of year, will it really be an issue? The undercovertourist crowd calendar lists Tues Aug 30th as a 4/10 crowd day, and Weds Aug 31st & Thurs Sept 1st as 3/10 crowd days....

Advice?

Thanks very much in advance,

Shneebs.

If you won't be able to take advantage of the extra magic hours you will almost assuredly find lower crowds on a non EMH day. Tuesday (August 30), should be a better option if that day works for you.

Visiting recommended parks during low crowd times is frequently more important than high crowd times.

Thanks LSUfan4444! Just to make sure I understand your last sentence, on Undercovertourist, they denote the "Recommended Park on This Day" with a green check mark. Is this why you are recommending Tues Aug 30th as the better day?

Thanks again,

Shneebs.

My $.02....you won't notice the difference between an EMH day and a non-EMH day, especially midweek. We always stay off-property like you're doing, so we've never done EMH. Therefore, we're fairly oblivious to what park has it and when. The reason whey we're oblivious is because it never really seems to matter. I'm sure during the EMH hours you'd notice a difference, but when the park is open for all guests I couldn't tell you if it was a EMH or not. Weekends in MK are somewhat more busy because of locals, but Mon-Fri are pretty much indistinguishable as far as crowd size goes. Stick with your original plan and have a great time!!

Decisions, decisions! Lol... The article I read made the arguement that on PM EMH days, people go to that park for the day (all day) b/c they can go there and stay even longer. Who knows... Lol.

Thanks again,

Shneebs.

Touringplans has August 31st as a 2 crowd level which is the lowest of the 3 days you listed. I would get there first thing in the morning and not worry about the PM extra magic hours.
