We have a 1:00 lunch at Kona Cafe in Nov. How much time should I allow for us to take the monorail from MK to the Polynesian, eat and monorail back to MK?
Roughly a couple of hours total. We typically start leaving the park about 30-40 minutes before an ADR. (depending on where you are in the MK at the time)
I'd be walking out the main gate no later than 12:15pm, there are often delays on the monofail. If you're early, check in at Kona as soon as you arrive, they might be able to accommodate you. After lunch you'll be walking back through the MK entrance and in the park no later than 2:30 probably.
Remember also that sometimes the monorail goes down in midday (happened to us two weeks ago) and you will have to take the boat I would start heading that way at noon. Then you can check out resort if early

Frankly, take the resort launch, it the gold flag one near the monorail. It take 10-12 minutes to the Poly and 5 minutes back. It's also a nice restful way. If you miss a boat it's a max 10 minutes for the next. Be at the boat dock at 12:20 to get to Kona by 12:45. Overall, including lunch, about 2 hrs.
I've only taken the boat once..... is it quicker? I never thought so, but the monorail has to stop at Contemporary and TTC first before reaching Poly.... or does it go the other way... I don't remember ???

Yes the Monorial drops off on the second floor lobby, once you exit the platform and enter the building Kona is on the imedite left. The boat launch is downstairs, behind the grand ceremonial house to the left.
If the launch is either pulling up to the dock or sitting there ready to go then I'd say it might be as fast as the monorail. But if not, I think the monorail is faster on the way to Poly. The launch stops at GF first. On the way back I'd take the launch.
Take the Poly/GF boat. It's faster. We do this every trip. For a 1:30 ADR we leave the MK at 12:30. The walk from the dock to Kona is like 4 minutes, and that's with two kids in tow.
Great info guys! Thanks again. In the past we have mostly eaten in the parks to save time but there are not many sit down restaurants left that we haven't been to in MK.
We have stayed at both the Poly and the GF and we really enjoy the boat. We have never had the boat take more than 30 minutes (and often more like 20 minutes) going to or coming from MK, except at closing times leaving the MK when the lines for everything were crazy.
