MK Photo session price increase?

Tiffany I'm with ya on that. I have already stated in my email to both Disney photgraphy and my WC that I expect them to honor the prices they quoted to me last year. Maybe I should drop in that I am a Law Student, what do you think;)

Ah, I'm now so on the fence with this.... I wanted the Disney wedding specifically so I could get my MK shoot, I ended up dropping Mickey and Minnie because the MK shoot was so important to me, I know it's an indulgence but it so specifically Disney:confused3

I sympathize with you completely. That's why I started this thread in the first place. I'm having a COMPLETE mental block at going up to $1000 on it. It isn't that we can't go the extra $200 if that's what I really, really want. But....

When we first decided to do the Disney wedding, and I was looking at what options we had for what we could do, and deciding what we could do without to make the whole thing reasonably affordable, my exact words were, "$800 for pictures in front of the castle is way too much and we're going to do it anyway." It was something I really wanted. But the $800 was stretching it. Not because we can't afford it per se, but because I am the type of person that looks at what I get for my money. I don't mind spending more for quality and/or value. But when I see what you get for that $800, it made it a very expensive indulgence in my mind, because you are paying a very hig premium simply for the privilege of getting pictures in front of the castle with no one else in the park. I agree it is something worth a premium price, but there's a limit to what that premium is.

And going up to $1000 just makes it more than I can justify for what we get back out of it in my mind, one-of-a-kind pictures or not. Any pictures of me and DF are going to be one-of-a-kind. The castle would be an added bonus, but not worth breaking the bank over. Heck, we'll wait until we get to travel to Germany and get some good shots in front of the real thing!

I know they are looking for ways to maximize their revenue. But one of the things that impressed me was that they hadn't limited DFTW to the big spenders. If you keep it small and limited, you can have a fairly low-cost wedding there. And to me, that's part of what the Disney magic is about - that it's open to everyone, not just those with big budgets. But it seems like they are moving the bar up on more and more on what makes a DFTW a fairy tale wedding.

Emily Im sorry about your experience-- im going to stay tuned. Now im so happy i got M&M instead of the shoot...

Summer-
I too am glad you are putting your foot down.. if i have one complaint on DFTW its that they arent together with their work. As a big business they need to get their act together-- i was left high and dry on my own wedding day!! Thank the Lord for Randy knowing every detail about disney weddings and knowing what I needed to do, knowing where-- how, etc. It pisses me off enough that your own WC that you work with for MONTHS doesnt even show up to your wedding... but then that you dont know what to do because you have no idea WHO will be showing up and WHEN. Okay-- enough rant. Summer-- I would probobly cancel if they dotn stick to their price. Go with M&M-- you are sure to get good photos out of it that will last a lifetime (although I would say that the 15 minutes i ahd with them probobly wasnt entirely worth the money-- but in time i might think differently because it will give us an opportunity that not many have-- Mickey & Minnie with us in our wedding outfits on our day).
GL:thumbsup2 Stick to your guns girl!

...and that's another Disney rip-off! You pay a hefty $1200 for M & M for 30 mins but they don't tell you for EXACTLY how long you'll have them (which was only 15 mins for you:eek: ). Where is their dressing room? Do they ever stop for photo's etc for other people en-route to you? How could you get the maximum time with them?
I'm still on the fence about MK ps even tho' as a UK bride we get the high res disc included. Anyone know approx how many photo's they take during the shoot?

Ok, I am really confused right now.

I received a call from DPS. They told me that in fact the prices WILL BE going up, but they HAVE NOT yet. Now, Summer recieved an email saying they are now at the increased price. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3
I know that Disney is known for it's inconsistency, but a $200 one. I think that someone needs to make them aware that they are sending out this new information that is conflicting with DPS, as of yesterday that is.

I noticed that they were quick to change their website when it was quoting the Wishes weddings too low; but if it is a mistake to their advantage, they seem to be taking their time correcting it.

Oh, if you want to be confused even more....

I did end up talking to DPS yesterday on the phone. I hadn't posted it yet because I didn't really get a definitive answer other than talk to my WP. But the first answer I got from the CM I talked to at DPS was that the prices had gone up as of January 1.

As I said, I hadn't posted it yet because I figured that rather than adding to the confusion more, I would wait until we managed to pin our wedding planner down on this and get a definitive answer before I said anymore.

But, given how things have gone, I don't really see how I COULD increase the confusion level.

Anyone else start feeling like they have a monkey with a dartboard that decides which price someone is going to be told for any given item?

I got the pdf that quotes the MK session at $800, I also inqured about the high res cd as well as I'm in the UK and was told that its only intimate brides that get that free!

I'm def going with randy now and I must say if the NK session goes up to $1000 I wont be doing that and it was one of the things that I really really wanted to do

osxgirl, I guess I should have mention my call was yesterday as well. Maybe the problem is somewhere in DPS than, and not DFTW. :confused3

ok, I know that I have posted a lot on this thread, but here is the latest from my wedding planner.

"You have already booked your Magic Kingdom Photo Session. You are locked in to the price quoted of $800.00. If and when there is an increase you will be grandfathered in at the price we quoted."

I booked my photoshoot about a month ago. I guess this means that those who have it already booked will not experience the price increase. (looks like you safe Summer)

Oh I know! Don't even get me going on this one. Thankfully I read Maggie's TR and realized that you weren't guaranteed the 30 mins. I cancelled them withinthe last month because I just couldn't justify the money. And that's when they were listed at $1085. That pays for three-quarters of our anniversary trip back to Disney.

It's ridiculous!

I think in this situation it could be very helpful. ;) I had a car dealership push me around last summer and I eventually broke out the law student card. It certainly helped in the end. What's shady is that many places will write in fine print whatever terms they want to impose, and people will adhere to them because they don't know the law itself.

I very rarely mention that I'm a law student, but when you know you're being taken advantage of, sometimes you need to put your foot down!

hehe its so funny that you say that. you sound like DH. he doesn't liek to brag about being a law student, but he has had to whip it out once or twice so we didn't get screwed/ripped off.

I realize disney is a business, and the goal of a business is to maxamize profit, but i think they are pushing more ppl away than they will get to make up for the price difference IMO. :confused3

dee slack-- honestly i think that whole 'from the dressing room to your event and back' for 30 minutes hoopla for M&M is a bunch of Bull Hokey! They say that so they can justify not being there the entire amount of time if need be (and if they have another reception they need to make or a character greet). So really i dont think it has to do with dressing rooms but rather luck- whether or not theres another schedules reception they need to be at, or whether or not their attendant is keeping their eye on their watch or just guestimating in their head how long its been- etc, etc.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: you've got to laugh or you'd just crack with all this uncertainty - thanks Disney:rolleyes:

Well, my DF has been speaking with our WP about all this. Her answer - the brochure with the $1000 and $1200 prices are the 2007 prices, that's what photography is charging, and that's that.

Never mind that that ISN'T what we've been led to believe. That the web site STILL says $800, and so does our wish book which is supposed to be a budgeting tool for us. Never mind the fact that we signed our contract for the wedding itself back in February, and we indicated back then that we wanted the MK portrait session, and I know that there are people on here whose timeline is about the same as ours and they are getting the $800 pricing. And that the stories from DFTW and DPS are so consistently INCONSISTENT it's ridiculous.

Add to it some of the comments I've seen about the DPS photographers - not that all are bad, but that it seems to be a toss up as to whether you'll have a good experience or not. And they want us to pay $1000 for a chance that we might get 12 good pictures if we're lucky? As if $800 for that chance wasn't bad enough?

And I know - I've complained a lot about this already. Probably some of you are saying to yourselves, "Well, if she thinks it's such a bad deal, why doesn't she just skip it and shut up about it already?" But it's maddening. Frustrating. If there were somewhere else I could go to get the same product, I would. I can't. They have a monopoly on it. They won't let someone else take pictures of me in my wedding dress in front of the castle.

This really sucks. Wedding pictures in my dress in front of the castle were something I really wanted. But because they have a monopoly, they can way overcharge, and not care if the product ends up being sub-standard? That's not right. And yes, my only real choice here is to either take what they are offering even though it is over-priced and not close to being worth what it should be, or not doing it at all. And my choice at $1000 is going to be not take it at all. But that doesn't mean I have to like it.

The thing I really don't understand? My DF explained to them that our photography choices were basically resting on this. That if we got the MK PS, we were definately going to want the digital cd, which meant we'd probably not bother with an outside photographer, we'd just upgrade our package that came with the wedding package. And that would also mean that family members would likely order prints from them. If we DON'T get the MK PS, we WILL be getting an outside photographer, switching our wedding photography to a honeymoon session, and since the only pictures we will then have from DPS will be the honeymoon session, we won't have any problem waiting 3 years to buy the digital cd, if we decide to buy it at all.

So, they would rather lose $800 on the MK PS, $750 on the digital cd, plus whatever else we ended up upgrading to and whatever else family members decided to buy, rather than give us the $800 pricing on the MK PS, which is what they have been, and still are, advertising anyway.

I am asking all of you out there who have said you were planning on getting the MK PS until you found out that the prices went up from $800 to $1000 to do all the future brides a favor. It may not do any of us going through right now any good, but..... Make sure you let both your wedding planner and DPS know that you had planned to purchase the MK PS, and changed your mind once you found out about the price increase. They need to know how much business they are losing. And who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and get one of the cast members that spreads some pixie dust and gets you the lower price.

We booked our MK photo session about 2mths ago. When my DF called to book, they asked us if we were using Disney for photos & video. At the time we were so he said yes. They told us because we are using them for both there would be a discount on the MK photo shoot and we were given the price of $800.
I checked back with them a little while ago and the price was still
at $800. This is something my DF is definate about doing. But with so many different prices and information going around, I'm thinking that I might switch back to an outside photographer. If all the information and prices are different just for the MK shoot then I'm a little worried about the normal wedding photos, I just don't want any little surprises in the end.
The way I see it is if you go with an outside photographer you can pay for the MK shoot with money you save.
This is crazy!! :headache:

I am truly sorry for all the headaches you all are going though with the price increases and everything! That really stinks! :( But I do have to say that my DH and I were married in Disney last July and I am so happy that we had the MK photo session. My DH loves the castle, so that was my wedding present to him! But the pictures our photographer took we absolutely amazing, I love the leather album they came in! They were just awesome! And the bragging rights I get to have now that we did it are so much fun! When ever we talk about the wedding we say we had pictures there and everyones faces light up! It really is a great experience! We also purchased the $1000 high resolution cd, I know it is alot of money, and believe me we dont have that much, but that is one thing that I defintely wanted to get. That allows us to bring it to any photo center and be able to print out as many and however big we want. Plus I figured that it was my wedding day! After all said and done I really didnt remember that much of it because it goes by so quick, so I was happy to have all the pictures. And I figured if I am spending all this money any way what is an extra 1800 dollars to remember the day by. Since I am only getting married once I threw all caution to the wind! Good luck! Happy Planning! :tinker:

I'm so sorry you're having so many problems with this. When I heard about the increase, I immediately wrote to my coordinator and asked if it affected me since I already signed a contract and was quoted the $800 price. Although I have not sent back my planning kit yet, I was told that I will pay $800 for the MK photos. I wasn't given an explanation, but she did say that she knows this is a "huge topic on the boards" and she thanked me for checking directly with her. If it was $1000, I would have cancelled.

I really wish Disney was more consistent in their policies.

This is terrible! I know this sounds high-maintenance, but could you go over your WP's head and get the straight scoop from her manager? I mean, if girls who booked when you did and under the same circumstances are getting the $800 price, that is just wrong. Heck, I'd ask to change WPs at this point - it's been done before!

Grrr.....let us know if you write a letter or anything....
