Well, my DF has been speaking with our WP about all this. Her answer - the brochure with the $1000 and $1200 prices are the 2007 prices, that's what photography is charging, and that's that.
Never mind that that ISN'T what we've been led to believe. That the web site STILL says $800, and so does our wish book which is supposed to be a budgeting tool for us. Never mind the fact that we signed our contract for the wedding itself back in February, and we indicated back then that we wanted the MK portrait session, and I know that there are people on here whose timeline is about the same as ours and they are getting the $800 pricing. And that the stories from DFTW and DPS are so consistently INCONSISTENT it's ridiculous.
Add to it some of the comments I've seen about the DPS photographers - not that all are bad, but that it seems to be a toss up as to whether you'll have a good experience or not. And they want us to pay $1000 for a chance that we might get 12 good pictures if we're lucky? As if $800 for that chance wasn't bad enough?
And I know - I've complained a lot about this already. Probably some of you are saying to yourselves, "Well, if she thinks it's such a bad deal, why doesn't she just skip it and shut up about it already?" But it's maddening. Frustrating. If there were somewhere else I could go to get the same product, I would. I can't. They have a monopoly on it. They won't let someone else take pictures of me in my wedding dress in front of the castle.
This really sucks. Wedding pictures in my dress in front of the castle were something I really wanted. But because they have a monopoly, they can way overcharge, and not care if the product ends up being sub-standard? That's not right. And yes, my only real choice here is to either take what they are offering even though it is over-priced and not close to being worth what it should be, or not doing it at all. And my choice at $1000 is going to be not take it at all. But that doesn't mean I have to like it.
The thing I really don't understand? My DF explained to them that our photography choices were basically resting on this. That if we got the MK PS, we were definately going to want the digital cd, which meant we'd probably not bother with an outside photographer, we'd just upgrade our package that came with the wedding package. And that would also mean that family members would likely order prints from them. If we DON'T get the MK PS, we WILL be getting an outside photographer, switching our wedding photography to a honeymoon session, and since the only pictures we will then have from DPS will be the honeymoon session, we won't have any problem waiting 3 years to buy the digital cd, if we decide to buy it at all.
So, they would rather lose $800 on the MK PS, $750 on the digital cd, plus whatever else we ended up upgrading to and whatever else family members decided to buy, rather than give us the $800 pricing on the MK PS, which is what they have been, and still are, advertising anyway.
I am asking all of you out there who have said you were planning on getting the MK PS until you found out that the prices went up from $800 to $1000 to do all the future brides a favor. It may not do any of us going through right now any good, but..... Make sure you let both your wedding planner and DPS know that you had planned to purchase the MK PS, and changed your mind once you found out about the price increase. They need to know how much business they are losing. And who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and get one of the cast members that spreads some pixie dust and gets you the lower price.
