What's everyone's opinion on visiting MK on Monday? In researching this some people say to visit MK later in the week not the first day of the vacation. I've also read that the Daytona race folks will be there February 15. Your thoughts...

Monday Feb. 16 is an early entry day for Animal Kingdom-and MGM has two shows of Fantasmic! in the evening. I can't see any reason why the MK would be more crowded than on any other day that week. Many folks have said the Daytona 500 people will be heading out Monday. I hope so! We are going to WDW/Pop Century Feb 15-20! I know that I am concerned about the crowds as well. I had a friend go down to WDW during Presidents Day week and she said the crowds were awful and she lost her 6 yr old twin boys for 2 hours! I am excited and ready to go though! Hope for the best with the crowds!! See you there! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

luckymum22, My family will also be at the Pop on the same days as your family. This will be our first trip to WDW and we are excited but concerned about crowds as well. I just found this web site two days ago and I can't believe how much info they have!

Do you have any suggestions for a first time trip? My kids are 5 and 7 yrs.

Thanks:D

I wouldn't go to MK on a Monday - we've done that twice and it's been a mistake both times. Both times we ended up leaving for Epcot and returning to MK on the Tuesday when it was considerably quieter

We'll also be there that week (Feb 15-21 - FW Campground). When figuring out our itinerary I went with the assumption that MK would be a madhouse that day, due to it being a holiday. We'll be going to Epcot Monday instead. We'll probably hit MK at some point on Tuesday. My advise, stay away from MK on Monday, hit it later in the week when some of the crowds from the long weekend leave.

luckymum,
thanks for the link, it says pretty much what the Unofficial guide says.(I just got that yesterday) We are definitely doing Epcot on Monday because I set up a PS res. at Akershus for the character breakfast. My daughter will like the princess interaction. My husband's birthday is Tues., any recommendations for a great restaurant? He likes steak and fish.(pretty picky on food quality as well)

Another question, this one about Animal Kingdom, with kids the age of 7 and 5 is it a whole day park in your opinion? We are not big zoo fans I am afraid to admit, even though we have the great San Diego zoo just minutes from our home.

My last trip to WDW in May was my first ever trip and my hubbie had been there several times as a child. We had such a great time with our meals. Everyone I talked to told me the food at WDW was awful and expensive. We didn't find that at all-we really enjoyed the places we chose! We made PS for one meal each day and it helped us keep on schedule and be sure that we actually ate a good meal each day. The times we ate at counter service places, we spent just as much money and the kids ate very little or threw away alot. It seemed to work better to go to the buffets so the kids got enough of what they chose to eat and we got what we wanted too. When you mentioned your husband's birthday I immediately thought of Ohana at the Polynesian resort. This was everyones favorite. It is an all you can eat feast and a fun spot for the family. When you call for PS tell them it is his birthday and I'm sure they will make it extra special! They always have fun stuff for the kids, like coconut races and hula hoop contests-they even made a grilled cheese sandwich for my son when our waiter saw he wasn't eating what was offered. Appetizers (salad, wonton and wings) and veggies are served family-style, then the enthusiastic cast members circulate with long skewers of grilled steak, turkey, shrimp and pork. Everything is cooked over an open pit in the center of the restaurant and the kids can see how it is all done. It was VERY delicious! You had said that he liked steak and seafood. I'll tell you it was the best shrimp and huge! Then, all you can eat! They just keep bringing more and more and everything was soooo good. They have all the cool drinks in unusual containers like coconuts and the little umbrellas. The Polynesian is on the monorail line so it is easy to get to and if you time it right you can see the MK fireworks from the windows which surround the restaurant. We have PS for Wed 2-18! Sorry this is so long! I get very excited!!! :hyper:

Isn't that president's day weekend? I know alot of schools up here have a week off for winter break up here, don't know if that would influence crowds much.
