Does anyone know why the monorails were closed more than they were open? We had 3 MK days on our trip and it was anyone's guess if the monorails would be running when were arriving/leaving.

1st day
morning-closed
lunch-open
afternoon- closed
night- open

2nd day
morning- closed
afternoon- closed
night- open

3rd day
morning- closed
lunch- open
afternoon- closed
night-open

That was my only complaint for our week long trip. The ferry boats were hot and very crowded. Most of the time even after we were boarded there would be a long delay before we left the dock. We had to change our plans for rope drop 2 of the mornings. It would have be pointless to try to go to the mine train when we didn't get through the MK gates until 9:15. On our first morning we were late for our barber shop appt. for 9:00 and we arrived at MK parking at 8:10.
I wish the buses would've been running every time it was down. They are so much better than the ferry boats in the summer. It was a great trip and we had an amazing time, but without the monorail it is a huge inconvenience to get to MK. Especially in the heat.

I wish I would've had one of these last week! I picked up pamphlets everywhere, but never saw one like this. I will do monorail research for my next trip! I have taken enough hot ferry boat trips to last me a lifetime :crazy2:

is there any sense of when this might be done? It seems like it's been going on for ages

Thing to remember about the monorails, the system itself is 45 years old. The trains average about 26 years old. The trains run 365 days a year, upwards of 20hrs a day. They don't get much rest. Technical issues do happen, And the maintenance workers take any great length of time they can to work on the major projects and issues. This could be anything from tire replacement to complete re wiring of the trains. During these modified times, there isn't really isn't one specific project they are working on. They are using this time to work on anything needed, weather it be train repairs, beamway repairs, replacement of buss bar, or new systems testing. The new semi automated system is installed, they are still just only in the testing phases of it. With that being said the current scheduled "modified schedule" is only through the end of June 2016, however modified schedules of this form have been happening for almost the last two years. There may be a lapse in the times for the summer holidays then they may pickup again after. Normally the trend has been to not have the modified schedules during the busy (holiday or peak) times.
