I think my 7yr old would sooo get into having his hair spiked with the glow in the dark gel, etc!!
We plan on arriving at the gates before opening. Does anybody know if the shops on Main Street (the barber in particular) open at the same time the MK opens? We would want to have the cut first thing to get the most out of it!
Thanks
Jill

I think it is open from 9 to 5. My boys love getting their haircut at MK. However, after the first cut, they have opted against the gel in their hair--they said it "hurt" when it dried. Have fun.

They get busy at 9 so be prepared to wiat in line b4 9am. It was 12.oo for a kids cut and they are open 9-5 evary day of the week. I waited to get my son's first haircut there in Jan. Well worth it!

We do this each time we go. My DD (5) has had her hair cut twice. They have braided her hair and added pixey dust. My DS (1) has also had two haircuts in the first year. He got My First Haircut ears- he was only 5 months old. We LOVE Michael!! He is awesome. If you do have to wait, it is not too bad. The Dapper Dans usually come and sing from time to time. But it is a great place to cool off and share conversation. :chat:

My ds(2), dh and dgp all had hair cuts last Thanksgiving day. It was great!!!! It was very crowded at the park opening, so we came back around 12:00 noon and walked in for the cut. We had Billie cutting the hair, she was GREAT!!!!! Enjoy!

We took our 2 boys to get their and my hair cut at the barbershop last Oct. It was a bad experience. I understand that it was an isolated incident, but still it was a waste of a couple of good park touring hours. Here's our story...

We arrived pretty soon after the MK opened and found the line to be about 8 people long. Then we notice that there is only one barber working. There is a "supervisor" on the scene, but he isn't cutting hair. He's just handing the barber supplies and basically trying to facilitate the process. Then we find out that the barber that is working is a fill-in that normally works in the wig shop of the Costume Dept and has never worked in the barber shop at MK before. She doesn't know anything about the pixie dust or the colored-gel Mickeys. We were told that one of the regular barbers was on vacation, another called in sick and someone else was having car trouble. They had called in another fill-in, but she wouldn't be there for about an hour. The Dapper Dan's did make an appearance and the walk-around Country Bears came in twice while we were waiting, but it took 2 hours to get our haircuts. We would have come back another day, but that day was our last day at MK for the week. We tried to go earlier in the week, but they had already closed the waiting line so that they could close the shop at 5 PM.

Bottom line, if things seem abnormal in the barbershop when you get in line...check it out. You may want to wait and go another day.

We had my son's hair cut/colored for his 5th birthday. We went straight to the barber shop at the opening of the park, and a line quickly formed behind us.

One word of warning...take a shower, not a bath, to wash that color out of your hair. The tub was blue, the shower curtain was blue, and I had to drain the water and completely refill the tub to get the blue off of my son. We also turned a washcloth completely blue. I tried to clean the tub out the best I could, but it was still very blue. I wonder what housekeeping thought of us (I did leave an extra generous tip that day). The shower curtain stayed blue at the bottom for the rest of the trip, and she didn't take the blue washcloth (maybe she thought it was ours), but the tub did come clean.

i'm so glad that I read about this here. My MIL saw a boy with spiked blue sparkly hair and was wondering what his parents were thinking. I quickly told her that he had visited barber shop on main street and received some pixie dust! She thought it was very funny,

My 8 yr old son did it last week and got lots of comments from people. He loved it! We went there first thing after park opening and there was no line at all, in fact my husband and my father decided to get thiers done also since there was no wait. It was hard getting the blue out but my son thought it was well worth it.
