MK: Getting Through Security

Yes, that's it. A friend is going next year and I'm trying to give her time saving tips. I'm sure she will stay at one of the monorail resorts, but only experienced the security check at the GF and didn't know about the other resorts. Wilderness lodge also? Or no? Thank you!

Basically monorail resorts: if you take the monorail you get checked at the station in each hotel. If you take the boat then at the boat dock at MK
WL: boat dock at MK or bus loop at MK
Contemporary: has the walkways to MK, you get checked before reaching MK

Just a heads up. If going to Epcot you have to go through security again.

One of my favorite things about staying at the Contemporary (along with being able to walk to MK), is the dedicated security line along that walkway. Not having to deal with MK security is awesome and a HUGE time-saver!!

I was SO glad I stayed at a monorail resort after I realized this. I didn't even realize that this was a perk before I was actually there. We stayed at the Contemporary. It would be really cool if they could figure out how to extend that to getting into epcot. lol

I thought it was pretty awesome when I took the monorail from Epcot to the MK (with a transfer at the transportation center), that I didn't need to go through security again. However, this is correct, going the other way, you will have to go through security again. Or, for instance boarding from a monorail resort and going to Epcot you will need to go through security twice. Wish they could improve on this

You can run into a backup anywhere on any given Disney day... but for the most part I've never experienced any material backup on the CR path. Mostly chill.

Can't speak to the am but we saw a huge line backed up there prior to the stArt of the Christmas party this week.

I would say that there's a line between 8am to maybe around 10am, the morning rush. They only have one table and one metal detector. Maybe a 5 min wait

We stayed in April. While most days there was only 1 family infront of us, there was one day we waited 20 minutes...it was torture! There was one guard really doing his best to expedite things but the guy working the table was pokey slow. They ended up allowing all of the people in our group withiut bags thru the metal detectors so they could keep walking and a few of us fast walkers stayed with all the stuff...

In my experience the 'no bag' line at the monorail resort security check points is a little amorphous. There really isn't one, but sometimes the guards will wave for no bags to scoot on by the tables. It's a little awkward as there isn't a ton of room, but if they're being proactive they'll wave folks straight on to the metal detector. But you do have to sort of adjust to whatever they are doing at that given moment.

Yes.

It can vary on the time of day, but there are usually two bag check tables at GF and Poly. It kind of acts as one line that then splits to two as you get toward the tables, then back to one for the metal detector. It’s simpler if you were there looking at it than it sounds in writing.

Just a heads up if using MK as a transfer point...if you're going from bus to bus, say arriving on POP bus then getting on AKL bus (pardon no regard for my fictitious route), you will not have to go thru security, but if you arrive via one type of transportation & change types of transport you will go thru security, even though you're not entering a park. So if you arrive at MK by bus & switch to boat over to GF, you'll go thru security. If you arrive via boat from WL & want to monorail to Poly, you'll go thru security. If you arrive at MK on monorail & want to bus to Boardwalk...you guessed it...security.
