My family of 3 - 5'1" myself, 48" and 44" DDs have one day in the MK the last week in June and we want to be able to see Celebrate the Magic and Wishes. We'll only have 8 hours in the MK (we have after 4 pm conference tickets) so we don't want to spend hours holding down a spot. With all of the changes to the hub I have no idea where a good spot to stand is these days, especially for a short mom with tiny kids. My youngest is 50 lbs so there is no way I can hold her up for the whole show. Where's our best bet to get a decent view of the show? If we could get a spot with a rail in front of us that would be ideal, but I have no idea where those spots are any more. I'm willing to stake out a spot maybe 30-40 mins ahead of time.....MSEP is at 9 and fireworks are at 10 pm.
Thanks for any help.

You can try and get a FP for the viewing area. Or pay for the Wishes dessert party.

Although I haven't been able to make it down since they have done the renovations, I think there is a much larger area from which the fireworks have an unobstructed view than before. I also think there are still plenty of spots with railings in that area, and don't expect you will have a problem finding one right after the parade

I would definitely consider a Wishes FP in your situation. They are not ideal for every one but this would guarantee you have a straight on view and while I would still recommend getting there a bit early it is not as time consuming as staking out a general spot.

Just outside of the wishes FP area across from Caseys they mark off an area you can stand in. I'm only 5'2" so I can feel your pain, I stood right behind some kids in strollers and if their parents had actually stood in one spot I would have been able to see everything. Unfortunately, mom and dad had to shift left then shift right then lean down and yell at kids, then stand up in a different spot. If you get there right when the parade ends, you should be able to get a spot right at the tape for the kiddos and you can stand behind them.

As much as I would like to do either, our trip is in 3 weeks and both have been booked for months now, hence why I am looking into other options.

I hear you! 4'11" over here! There are kids that block my view, LOL. DD is 46 inches, DS is 54". DH is the only one doing well at 5'9".

We booked FP+ last time in the rose garden, which was wonderful - I didn't even mind being offside, but my understanding is that the new area is much more crowded and they ask people to stand up, which is not what us shorties want.

My suggestion would be to go as further back as you can (by the entrance), maybe a bit to the side. The view of Wishes is still pretty good and you have a better chance at more space than being closer to the castle.

I found that a fast pass and standing at the back of the wishes fast pass area by the railing to be ideal. There was a gap as folks opted to stand more forward in the section. Behind us, the walk way was kept clear but was a passage way. Behind that was another rail and then the tables outside the plaza. That looked like a good non FP+ spot, but I have no idea when you would have to get there to claim a spot.

Right there with you. Barely 5'0" here and DS11 is around 4'6". Really frustrating trying to find a good spot for us, so we usually go further back from the castle as others have suggested. Even if I can't see in front of me, the angle is better for looking up!

I see FP+ available for Wishes for lot's of days at the end of June (yes, I am bored waiting for my midnight window to open) :-)

I feel your pain...I about about 5'2". It seems like no matter if I am at a concert, Disney etc. I get stuck behind someone who towers above me lol. This past trip we watched Wishes 3 times all from different spots (Wishes is one of my favorite things about going to WDW :) ).
* We tried the new FP+ area. We did enjoy it and found it to be great for families. It is less crowded than the hub and feels a little more "laid back". We did wish that we could of remained sitting (everyone was told to get up before Celebrate The Magic). The view was nice but partially obstructed by the new lightposts.
* We watched from the bridge going over to Tomorrowland. View wasn't the best but sufficient...it was nice to be able to lean up against the side walls of the bridge. It was also a lot easier to go right to Tomorrowland and continue touring the park rather than deal with the mass of people of Main St.
* We also watched from the Main St/Hub area. We walked over after the 9pm parade when they opened the street back up. We ended up a little ways down towards the castle past Casey's. I moved a few times to get away from taller people but eventually found a good view. Downside to viewing there is the tight crowd, possibilty of taller people/needed to adjust so you can see and trying to make your way through the crowd once it is over.

Glad someone asked this as I've been debating using a FP+ for Wishes, but being that DD and I are both 4'11" and always struggle to get a decent view of fireworks/parades/etc I think this will be our best chance. It seems like every time we get an ok spot, someone giant (ok, more like average-height but giant to us lol) stands RIGHT in front of us at the last minute and we're stuck watching someone's back :sad2:

I'm 5'1 and suffer from the same issue. In crowded areas if someone is in front of me I tend to stay back from them a bit so I can see over them... but the never fails that some 6'4 ****** will squeeze his way in with his girlfriend right in front of me. *grumble grumble....*

I plan on taking my tripod which is pretty compact (super skinny legs and condenses down to about 12" when closed up) but I'm not entirely sure how high it goes....so I need to test that out before I leave tomorrow.

I feel your frustration. Although, we are not necessarily a short family it annoys the heck out of me when ppl place their kids on their shoulders. This makes it almost impossible to see past them for parades, fireworks, or anything. I understand that the kids want to see but so does everyone else!

If you can get to the spoke leading from the Hub to Tomorrowland, this has always been a good view for me (5'0").

I think I asked this before (sure I did) but can't remember the answer I got or where I asked it..... but do they allow people to fill everywhere or do the keep the "road" somewhat open as a path for people to walk?

I'm just curious if I can plant myself on a curb somewhere so that no one can stand in front of me. Or is the entire area in the hub free game?

actually look at some hub construction photos i think i'm going to plant myself right by one of the construction walls. or at least try.

edit - unless they aren't there anymore... seems like some of the walls around the hub/statue are almost ready to come down.

edit again - now i see the walls in the inner area of the hub are down. I'm excited for that but screws up my fireworks plans lol

For the fireworks? You can stand anywhere in the road. They won't let you stand on the sidewalks and block traffic.

Oh good to know! totally opposite of what I was thinking. Thanks :)
So basically for parade and fireworks they flip flop - for parade, no standing in the road - and for fireworks, no standing on the sidewalks.
