Took a look at the park calendar around that time and it seems like most of the days around there (non-weekend) are 9:00-7:00, so not really that early. Seems weird that it would randomly close at 6:30 that one day though, there must be some reason.
When do they start filming the Christmas Day Parade? Maybe they are closing early to get everything in place for that. Its been 5 or 6 years since we went during the filming period but I was surprised how far in advance that thing is filmed. I guess I always just assumed it was a live event.
The Christmas Parade is typically filmed the first weekend in December. Most likely there is a private event that night. They closed at 5:00 for an event earlier this month, it was a travel industry private party.
I wish I could find the thread right now but that question was asked on the parks board and someone who actually had been w/ a company that rented out MGM (then) for less than half a mill I think speculated MK might cost 3/4 a mill. I know nuttink tho. NUTTINK!
If I find the thread, I'll edit my post.
We just got back from WDW & I can give you one hint.
DO NOT do Epcot that day.
MK closed early one nite of our trip, so we did Epcot that day instead, even though we have APs. Big mistake. TT was out of FP before 10:30 & the FP line was an hour wait by dinner time!

My wife and DD went to Epcot just for the evening when they stayed at WDW on their way to take a DCL trip a couple of years ago. They called me and said they had never seen so many people at Epcot. I checked and sure enough it was a special ticket deal at MK that night, it was sooo crowded that they left before illuminations and the gates were packed with people trying to get in.
We went to the MK on the 16th when it closed at 5 - we had to catch the ME bus just after 5 anyway. We rode Space Mountain twice in one hour...the park was not crowded at all and lines were really short. I'll keep my eyes open for early closures...really seemed to discourage a lot of people from hitting the park that day. As an aside, we had to chuckle just a little after boarding the ME bus at 5:30 - the skies turned black and it just poured - just in time for the private event. Wonder if they were able to get a rain check?
