MJ Attraction at EPCOT

First of all, in regards to the MJ child molester comments: As others have stated, those were allegations that were never proved in a court of law. As far as it not fitting in with Disney....let's face it, there have been lots of controversial/inappropriate things associated with Disney (think about the original cover of The Little Mermaid VHS... I still have it BTW. :scratchin

Secondly, although it is a great place to cool off and I do happen to love MJ, it is time to refurbish. And to the person who said something about dust bunnies on the Soarin ride... :rotfl: I snorted when I read that!

I personally enjoyed seeing the original captain EO when it came out years ago in Disneyland and enjoyed very much taking my children to see it at EPCOT. My children do not know anything about the controversy surrounding the late michael jackson nor am I going to fill them in on the speculation. They simply enjoyed the show along with the rest of my family.

Not fit it? It was made for Disney.

Another EO thread? Please, somebody say something original.

On our last day of school in 7th or 8th grade, they played a Michael Jackson video and a girl in my class named Nicole (I only remember her name because of this) screamed in the classroom because she simply couldn't control her excitement upon seeing him.

This was back in Michael's Thriller days...long before he was Bad (shamon).

Unless I'm mistaken, most kids won't know anything about the charges (which he was not convicted of) and most adults will realize he was ever convicted of a crime. If you don't wish to see it and you don't feel it is appropriate for your kids, skip the attraction. We skipped it because I just didn't have time.

OJ was never convicted of murder either...If it walks like a duck and pays millions to the alleged victims, it's probably a duck.....

Well I don't know many people who have been victims of ducks, or any ducks that have millions, lol. Kidding aside, I think there is a pretty glaring difference between the OJ case and the MJ accusations. But I get what you're saying.

I saw MJ once in the MK, it was during the parade. He was walking through the crowd and then just ran and hopped on the back of one of the floats but it didnt appear that his handlers knew he was going to do it. He did a little wave and smile. Just took my sons to CEO this past june and at first they protested but then came out loving it :)
@kaligirl I am :rotfl2: at your "shamon"

O.k., supposed child molester. But anyone with that kind of controversy surrounding them just doesn't seem like an appropriate message.
Seriously? To the best of my knowledge, that case went away. No guilty verdict there.
Like others said, it isn't new. It's old. Very old.

Captain EO sucks. I wish to God they'd get rid of it.

I liked HISTA. It wasn't something I had to do every trip, but I'd see it once a year or so. I wouldn't have cried if Disney had replaced it with something good, but getting rid of it for EO is beyond sad.

Oh, Disney, put HISTA back in until you have something better. Please.
It's really funny, but I hated HISTA....hadn't been in there in years. Boring. My entire family hated it.

But I will say that my now 18 y/o dd loved EO. Yes, she was pefectly aware of the controversy. But, it was really good that she could see the original Jackson at work. Do we do Captain EO every single time? No. But we do enjoy it every other trip or so. HISTA didn't get that.
Everyone has their preferences.

It's not new, it is a revivial of Captain EO from the 80's.The only thing I think is that it is old, it wasn't all that great when it was new, and needs to be replaced.Honey I shrunk the audience also old, but more tolerable than Captain EO.In any event, Disney should start investing in some revamps in Epcot. The imagination ride and pavilion is a travesty as is the closed /defunct Wonders of Life Pavilion.

I for one am glad that Captain EO is back. I realize the effects are bad, but I remember being so excited about the attraction as a kid.

I'm a huge MJ fan and was sad to see it go and be replaced by HISTA - but that was also getting old, so I was glad to see that go too.

A change to something new would be a great addition. But I would never say that Cptn EO doesn't belong at Epcot, its definitely right at home.

:thumbsup2

This. Long live the Cap'n! Eo forever!

I haven't seen it yet....just heard about it from a friend who just returned. How long has it been there?

I just don't think that if it were some 'tribute' thing to a child molester that it would belong....but I clearly misunderstood the premise of the attraction.

:rotfl2: seriously? Yeah .... more like 'son, we need to make a quick buck so you'll have to tell everyone you had "sleepovers" with MJ'

Only on the DIS :thumbsup2

They might as well have a Casey Anthony dancing remembrance movie as well. I kid, I kid. Ya gotta love Florida.

Captain EO was nice as a remembrance, but MJ's been gone over a year now.. it's time for something new. Epcot's future world should be about the future, not some crappy outdated 90's video.

Actually MJ has been gone for 3 years now! I remember because he died the week of our last vacation to the World!

I am actually looking forward to seeing it. Last time I saw it, my wife and I were on our honeymoon. Now almost 23 years later we will get to see it again, this time with our 11 yr old son.

I know its cheesey. So is MuppetVision 3D and I will be sitting watching that too. :)
