Has anyone done mixology?
My husband loves to make drinks at home, I think he would have a blast!
Can anyone tell me how much it is?
are there many spots/classes available?
How many/what drinks did you mix?

We did it last Jan. on the Fantasy. It was a lot of fun. We each made 1 drink and got to drink 5. Make sure you eat something before hand. I don't remember the cost, think it was $25 or $30. I went to the costumer service desk around 2pm when we got on the ship to sign up and there were openings for all of the different tasting classes. I believe there were 20-25 people in the class. It was a full class and since they are popular you should sign up as soon as you get on the ship, if you wait too long the classes could be all filled. There was a really good variety of different types of drinks and they were all really good, there's a shot at the end, which I usually don't like shots, but it was sooooo good. I remember we also did some type of martini, a raspberry mojito--so good!, something with champaigne in it and a drink that had pineapple juice in it. I remember the one with pineapple was really strong and we were all asking for more juice, I think it had several different liquors in it.

We did a mixology class (private one set up on our cruise meet). There were 25 slots, but a couple of people didn't show up. I believe the cost was $25.

When we arrived, the bartender already had the empty glasses set up on the bar.

The group was divided into smaller groups of 5. Each group of 5 would go up and learn how to make a drink.
Each of them made enough for 5 people.

The drinks vary, depending on the bartender. Different bartenders like to teach different drinks.

I second the "eat something first" thought. The drinks are full size drinks and, by the end of the session, everyone was having a great time.

Assume a cost of $25pp and you'll never be disappointed. One private and and one open we did last week on the Wonder were $20pp and a private one we arranged last fall expecting $20pp but because we kept the class full (to its limit) all were cut a break to $15pp (which was the best priced one we've ever had).

Thanks for the pictures! Can't wait!

Sounds like a lot of fun!
Did you do any other tasting classes?

I don't drink at all but my husband would really enjoy this. Would I have to pay just to observe even if I am not drinking?

Does anyone know if the classes would be different each time or is there multiple offerings of the same class during the cruise?

No, this was our first one. Our next cruise isn't until March 2018. I will be signing up for this class again and probably some other one, on a different day. I don't drink a lot, just one glass of wine/mixed drink at dinner. I had to go line down for a few hrs afterwards, but it was worth it.

Usually, yes. If you're in attendance they will say you must pay. There have been rare reports where a "auditing" person was allowed for no charge.

The mixology class is offered several times throughout the cruise. Pretty sure they do the same drinks each time. I read several different trip reports before my cruise and the people had the same drinks, sometimes one drink was different. But there are a lot of different types of classes. There's one on wines and chocolate that I think is popular. My dh was going to do a whiskey one on our Alaska cruise a few yrs ago.

We did both the mixology and the chocolate and wine pairing. We didn't actually mix the drinks ourselves, but they showed us how to make each of the ones we were served. I remember them being more expensive than $25, but don't recall the exact prices. Regardless, both were outstanding, and I would do them again in a heartbeat!!

Yes! I did it on my last cruise and it was great. It was $25 and 5 different cocktails were made. The bartender made full sized ones, then about 4 or 5 people, out of the about 15 person class, would volunteer to make the same drink but about half size. If you didn't make the drink that round behind the bar, another bartender came out with a tray of half size premade ones so everyone got to try each drink. Also if you stay around at the end and most people have left, the bartender can't drink the drinks he made since he's on duty, so he'll let you take any of the full size ones that are there. For my class I made a Malibu Bay Breeze, Cosmopolitan, and Mojito. The other drinks made by others that I got to sample were a tequila sunrise and a B52 shot. I also took the full size Bay Breeze and Mojito. So needless to say, after this class, the ship seemed to be rocking a little more than usual. Also the class could take anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on the pace.

We got to drink the people made each time. No other bartender serving them. Some of those people were pretty heavy handed with booze. It is so much fun though watching the people make the drinks and interact with everyone even though you don't know these people you will at the end.

Did have one that only let 2 people make drinks and they picked your name out of bowl. Didn't like that one as much. But that was only once ,all the other times were like above. I guess they did have the others made now that I think of it, because those only made one for themselves.

The drink making seems to depend on the size of the class. I had one on one cruise where a lot of people cancelled the day of because it was a GORGEOUS sea day, so there were only like 6 of us (and a woman who was pregnant but participated - just gave the drinks to her husband). In that case we each made our own drinks. And then the bartender drew our tickets for the full-sized versions she made as a model. Basically each of us ended up with one since the husband getting doubles of the ones we were making said to take his ticket out.

I did a cocktail making class on the Wonder last year.

It was a bit different to what I expected. When we arrived, everyone was given mini sized versions of each cocktail. I know other people have called them half sized, but I found them really small - more like quarter size. Each "round" three people were invited to make a full sized version of cocktail to keep and drink. I was lucky enough to get a spot in the last round. If I hadn't gotten one of the limited spots, I would have been a little disappointed with the class. A number of people missed out on making and getting a full sized cocktail because the class was quite full.

That said, I'll probably do it again if given the opportunity.
