Mixology for a lightweight?

My husband and I will be on the Fantasy this fall and are considering signing up for Mixology. I'd love to try some different drinks and learn how to make some things. However, I'm a bit of a lightweight. 2 glasses of wine gets me pretty buzzed! So, can anyone with experience please tell me if I will be a sloshy mess if I attend a Mixology class? Obviously everyone's reaction to alcohol is different, but I would love to hear some experiences. I want to make sure I get my money's worth and have a good time, but not end up humiliating myself in front of Mickey or feel icky afterward!

I'm definitely a light weight and I loved the mixology class. It was a ton of fun to try all the different drinks and learn how to make them. Our class was after lunch, which worked out perfect. And if you're starting to feel the alcohol, just remember that you don't have to finish every drink!

I am definitely a lightweight and my wife will tell you I get mildly drunk after one of these sessions. Always good to have something calm planned afterwards that does not require much thinking (a movie, cooking class).

It is very possible to get pretty tipsy at a mixology or any tasting for that matter if you drink all the drinks. If you drink each in moderation though you should be able to finish off the one(s) you really liked if you wish and leave feeling just fine. It is a blast to learn to make some different drinks using different techniques, I highly recommend going.

Don't forget though that they usually hand out a glass of wine in the cooking class;)

I'm pretty excited about mixology! We are in a group that set up a private class, so I already know we are going to go to mixology, just don't know yet which sea day or time it will be scheduled. I just plan on not doing much of anything after the class! The lady who set our private class up said that they are generally held around 2:00. I have a pedicure scheduled for 4:00 on one of the sea days and am actually even considering cancelling it if the mixology ends up being on the same day. I want to enjoy my $70 pedicure instead of being passed out during it! lol

note: I'm an EXTREMELY light weight when it comes to drinking... but, I'm also the type that if it is in front of me and I paid for it, I will NOT let it go to waste! I will finish off all the drinks on my table regardless of who they belong to! (That's just the mentality I have once I start drinking! eeek! Good thing I don't drink very often!)

I'm not a lightweight but I wasn't feeling 100% when I did mixology on our last cruise so I just didn't drink everything. I think we had 5 drinks: drank 2 entirely, most of 1, not much of 1 and hardly touched one (didn't like the taste). I felt it was still worth the $20! I also made sure I had a few extra carbs at lunch :)

I am not a lightweight when it comes to alcohol and some of my drunker days on our past cruises have been on days when we did tastings. We participated in whiskey, wine, dessert and mixology tastings and we walked away tipsy from all of those. Of course most of the tastings were early or late afternoon so we rolled right into an afternoon on the deck and a couple more drinks so it isn't all Disney's fault. :teeth:

I have never done the mixology, but now thinking it sounds like fun! Do you sign up in advance? I don't see it as something I can reserve before I get on the ship.

Shelleyr25, when you board head straight to guest services and get signed up as quick as you can. Many of the tastings/mixology sessions can book up very quickly. We had one wine tasting that we really wanted to do but was already booked by the time we boarded. We went to the session about 15 minutes early and spoke with the cast members setting things up and we were able to get a seating.

Thanks so much...will do!!!!!

It is 5 large drinks so lightweight or not you will feel it. I will say though that I finally got into a mixology class this past June after years of wanting to do it and it was TERRIBLE. The drinks were pre-made and waiting for us. Only two drinks were good , the other 3 were DISGUSTING. Other people from this class agreed as well. We were in the back and could barely hear or see. Only two people were chosen to "mix" something. He just kept saying how he makes unique drinks that only he knows how to make and I felt the class was more about him then the drinks. I am the kind of person that if something bad happens on vacation I just shake it off because I know I am blessed to be on vacation but honestly I should of went to guest services and got our money back. I know so many people have had amazing experiences for mixology and I am so glad for them but just wanted to let you know if you are on the fence sometimes they are not as great as you hear on these boards...

I don't drink except on vacation, so my first mixology I had a hangover a few hours later :( I've learned since then to ask for a glass of water first thing and keep drinking. I've only ever done mixology where they did 4 "mini" versions and one full-size version, and I've done it 4 or 5 times. But it looks like they vary. Anyway, the last time I did it I was pregnant, so I just gave my drinks away. I went because it's SO much fun and my friends and I had a blast. Jesus was our bartender (on the Wonder) and that was an experience we will never forget. So, even if you go, you don't have to drink everything. I never drink the traditional martini or gin drinks, for example. Go and have fun!

When we did it on the Dream, they were small versions of drinks. In the end, it was like having 2 drinks + 1 shot.

When we were on the Dream we did a mixology class and loved it. The bartender said that the class is dependent on who is working in that particular bar on that cruise. She said they are given a list of allowed liquor and basic outline, but they pick which drinks to make. So it can definitely vary. Someone in our group did a martini tasting and said they hated it, didn't like the drinks or the bartender.

I'm not a drinker, but I loved the mixology class. I just took a sip of each drink and then either handed it off to someone else (if they wanted it), or put it down on a table to be picked up.

I did like one of the drinks more than the others, so I kept that one and drank about 1/2 of it. That was enough for getting my buzz on.

Our cruise group arranged two private Mixology classes before the cruise. This way we knew the times ahead of time so that we could make other plqns. We had a blast! The drinks were very strong and were not "sample" size.
