OK, we should now be on the top of Page 61! If you folks with download suffered through all of the pics on Page 60, I hope you found them to be worth your time. Blue River said her DH would be interested in doing something like this and asked me to send her some race pics. I said I would or post them on her "Construction" thread to which she replied, "Even better" so you all can blame her! :rotfl2:

Hijacking over. Resume, um, constructing? :confused3

Rob -
Great pictures and descriptions! I'm sitting here in my recliner watching the 'Dega race as I type this.

I grew up in Indy so I remember lots of races in the 70s & 80s. We got married over Memorial Day weekend in 1990 - we had to clear wedding date & time with my family to make sure they wouldn't miss the race (Heck, I was on my honeymoon by then - I was doing better 'things' than watching a bunch of cars go around in circles). But I made my dad tape it for me so I could watch it later:thumbsup2

The noise is absolutely incredible. Can you here me now?!? The IndyCARs have that high-pitched wail that drives into your eardrums, while those Craftsman trucks (and NASCAR cars) have that low-pitched rumble that shakes your rump. I've gone to Bristol a few times now and the way the track sits in the valley there (It's nicknamed 'Thunder Valley') earplugs are required track equipment. Haven't gone in whole-hog and bought a scanner yet, but the day's coming... Bristol traffic - for the trip to the race for us it's a 2 1/2 hour trip, front door to trackside seat, including a good breakfast. For the trip home we are lucky to be home in 6 hours - 7 1/2 hours if we decide to stop and eat. Most of our trek is interstate driving - so the trip home is either in 10mph traffic (lots of it) or 80mph+ with everybody driving like they're imitating their favorite NASCAR driver.

My little brother got to party with Tony Kanaan one night, back in 2001 or 2002. It was the night of the Chicagoland IndyCAR race and my brother had some pit-passes during the race - he must have lizard-lounged with the teams good enough to be invited to the after-race party. Most drivers are smaller than your average guy - Dale Jarrett & Michael Waltrip are the only ones I know of who are taller than 6'-0". Kanaan is 5'-4" or 5'-5" (I think) which is about average for racecar drivers.

Rob, would you be terribly "offended" if I didn't go back a page and look at all the pics? My computer seems to be running slower than it's usual snail's pace this afternoon.

I will trust it was indeed funny and entertaining. Oko?

Hi to everybody, just a quick afternoon drive by. Have a good one.

Hello everyone!

Had a WONDERful time on the cruise!! I don't think DCL's Wonder will ever be the same again. The staff was probably glad it was just a 3 day cruise. Our table even got certificates for being a Magical Guests. lol The chef came out on the last night and gave us fruit trays and the certificates. lol
We had so much fun, it was like we were all 21 again.
I haven't laughed that much in ages.
Weather was perfect. Seas were like glass.

I'm in Orlando now, just moved DD out of her dorm.
I may pop over to Epcot to seed the fireworks if I can muster up some energy.

See ya all soon :)

Rob: Thanks for posting the pics! You got some really great shots :cool1:
I enjoyed reading your posts - it was like a mini trip report :) :thumbsup2

Cheryl: Sounds like you had a great time :dance3:

Not for me! I've barely had 5 minutes of computer time in 2 days.....I NEED my DIS fix :upsidedow

I DON'T believe it!!! :lmao:

Heh...how are ya babyPJ??

No, it's true. You know when you just get in one of those moods and you can't get past it? I don't know. I just really don't have anything to say. Guess there's a first time for everything. What did you do this weekend?

Thanks GoofyDad!

No kidding about the noise. I had earplugs both days, used them for about 10% to 20% of the race on Saturday and decided I was enjoying it more without them. Sunday, I brought some but didn't put them in until after the first 30 laps or so (out of 200) when I decided that constant engine whining was going to give me a headache when it was all over with.

Rob, would you be terribly "offended" if I didn't go back a page and look at all the pics? My computer seems to be running slower than it's usual snail's pace this afternoon.
No. That was the whole point of consuming that whole page. I don't know if it makes a difference or not but I thought it might be easier for you to skip a full page than individual posts.

Nope!

I don't have anything to say but I'm here.
Someone mark this date down as a historical date!

I worked at my MIL's cottage with DH Saturday morning (we're doing renovations for them) and then went to work Saturday afternoon - first day without training. Went to a 50th Birthday party Saturday night for my neighbour. Had to get up at 5:30 this morning because my DD had a swim competition and that lasted all day. Came home, went out for a relaxing boat ride and then cleaned the house a bit.

What about you?

Hello Rob
