Mixed Nuts Part 2

Hi there!

I'm here. We were down spending the weekend with the in-laws, in that thriving metropolis called Madisonville, TN (home of Estes Kefauver). My in-laws still have dial-up service - between that and non-forum-surfing-optimal internet-access on my Treo would have made DISing very, very frustrating for me.

I have a very busy few weeks ahead of me. Next week (7/12) is the state's capital budget announcement, where they award various projects for the coming fiscal year in the university system to in-state architects. I'm 95% sure we'll get at least two smaller ones (less than $5Mil estimated construction budget each at two universities), with a decent potential to be joint-ventured with another local firm for a really large one (meaning $20Mil+ estimated construction budget). We've spent this last year "paying our dues" on a small ($1.5Mil) project for UT that has been pretty successful (so far so good).

We've also been chasing work at a local amusement park that you may have heard of - rhymes with "Schmollywood";) They are looking at local architects to do work for them and they've short-listed to us and one other firm. We wouldn't be designing the rides themselves - they have a specialist firm from NYC designing those - but all the accessory buildings like gift shops, restaurants, restrooms, staff buildings, etc. We will hear about that around the end of this coming week / beginning of the following week.

I have the usual assortment of small projects keeping me busy in the meantime - I'm working on a credit union branch and toward the end of the week I'll be starting on an anesthesology office. The rest of the firm is keeping very busy, which we've really needed financially. Basically we're split up into teams - I have two interns under me, and there are two other design teams with 3 or 4 people each. If we land the one huge project we'll 1) have to hire more people, and 2) have to divvy up our teams a bit to handle the work better. We want to get alot of this small projects done before our student interns go back to part-time once the school year starts in August (at that point I'll be a "team" of 1 effectively).

The end of the month is our state AIA convention in Nashville (7/25-7/28). It'll be a Thursday/Friday thing for me (7/26 & 7/27). Then I need to clear out early to drive up to Indianapolis that Friday night for a "Welcome Home" party for my grade-school buddy who's just finished his tour-of-duty in Iraq. The party will be that Saturday afternoon/night (7/28). Then I drive back home Sunday (7/29). And then we leave for WDW early Monday (7/30) for a week-long trip right before school starts for the kids. I'll be doing more driving in that one week than any two months combined (3 hour drive from Maryville-Nashville, 5 hour drive from Nashville-Indy, 7 hour drive from Indy-Maryville, 8 to 10 hour drive from Maryville-WDW).

I anticipate not being able to do much DISing in the near future.:hippie:

Good evening from hot and humid CT. I think it might be time for a cold shower.

That sounds appealing after spending the day at the pool. It was hot here too!

Hi, GoDaddy. Sounds like you'll be pretty busy! Now what rhymes with "Schmollywood?" :rotfl2:

So you still think it's funny then? LAME! Just kidding. Tell everyone how Jenna did! :cheer2:

I thought it was funny that you were pointing out how lame it was!

Jenna had one at bat. She had a hard hit single. She stole 2nd and 3rd and scored a run on a hit.

Why hello freakshow. I mean Rob. Meeting of the minds on MSN.

Are you still there? I don't think this computer has MSN on it and I have the wrong lap top. Tom Selleck took mine by mistake, so I can't download it on here.
I'm still looking though.

Hello GoDaddy!
Looks like you have a lot of projects on the horizen, very exciting.

I feel your pain about dial up and DISing. You can change your settings so it doesn't show siggy's or images and it makes it a lot easier.

Guess who I just saw???
Davey Jones of the Monkey's.
