I'm intrigued by the "pick a pearl" in the Mitsukoshi store in the Japan pavilion. Has anyone tried it? How much does it cost and what sort of pearl did you get?

Backstory: Last year I left my abusive husband and our divorce was finalized in the very beginning of this year. This trip (going with my dear friend of 15 years!!) is a celebration of me getting on with my life and doing what makes me happy. I thought it would be really great to get a pearl from this trip to make into a ring when I get home. Something for me to wear that's just for myself.

My daughter did it. The pearl itself wasn't expensive. I feel like it's around $15 or so, not including the setting.

Keep in mind that a pearl ring is beautiful, they're also often impractical. Pearls are soft and need special care. You need to take it off before coming into contact with anything - even hand soap. If you aren't in the habit of taking your rings off, a pendant might be a better choice.

Thats a thread on here. I am trying to link it for you.

I bummed it to the top for you.

Congrats on moving on! I did Pick a Pearl the last time I was there. Fun and energetic atmosphere. I believe (although its been a few years) it was around 30-40. And the price of a necklace or ring setting was separate. It was very busy when we went so we did the pick and then return later to pick it up in its new setting. I would definitely try it, it's fun.

It's a lot of fun! I did it last time and ended up getting two pearls in my oyster - so I got earrings.

I had them put on basic posts there, which I have heard is actually cheaper than taking them somewhere when you get home.

My daughter did it last year, and I believe it was 17.95, give or take a buck or two. I know it wasn't over $20. She,too, got two pearls and we had them set there for earrings. I think you can find some very reasonably priced settings there. Of course, there is always some very expensive ones, but I think her total was somewhere around $45 and she did not pick just basic posts.

I have done this quite a few times now ( four I think ) and I love it ! You never know what color or size your pearl will be , but , it is the one that you chose especially for you. I adore each and every one of mine. I have the Cinderella coach , a Minnie Mouse head and a swirl ( all cages ) and a ring. Congrats on taking control of your life and always remember to be good to YOU , and then you will be better able to be good to others. Enjoy your new world ! pixiedust:

My son loved it! I loved watching him with the very enthusiastic "pearl girl" she was just as excited as my son. His pearl was a silver pearl size 7 or so....I don't know much about pearls so it's still in the little Baggie they put it in, have fun!
