Mitral valve leak in heart?

I was diagnosed with MVP when I was 10 (I just turned 45 last week). The doctor told my mom that it's basically a benign condition and I didn't have to curtail my activities at all. I just had another echo this past summer and with the same cardiologist I saw 10 years ago (he's also my dad's doctor). He said I officially don't have MVP anymore! He said the diagnostic standards for MVP have changed and they're finding that a certain level of prolapse can be considered normal.
The same thing happened to me. I was diagnosed with MVP maybe 30 years ago. (I am 56). I had an echocardiogram stress test last spring and the doctor, who was new to me because we moved, said I didn't have MVP. Weird.

I think that's a good idea. I don't think that the average people walking around work out at the gym to the degree that you do, so better to be sure that your extra exertion will be ok! ::yes::

Right! And I promise not to keel over before our annual Family Turkey Fest next month! lolol :cutie:

That is strange! Well on my echo report, it put that I was a "30 year old female", when I am obviously 38, as per my birth date at the top of the report. I have this fantasy that they mixed me up with someone else and that I don't have MVR. hahaha! :rotfl:

Nuclear stress tests (thalliums with pictures) are actually more 'accurate' in predicting heart disease than exercise stress tests (treadmill EKG's) actually..
picture much better than watching ST-T/EKG changes on a treadmill..

In fact, for women, I (personally) wouldn't run a stress EKG (or stress Echo).. poor sensitivity/specificity and too many false negative/false positives/etc..
In fact.. the saying is actually 'you order a stress EKG/echo when you already know what the result is going to be (i.e. negative)'

Same thing happened to my dh this past yr. He finally had an echo and the cardio said, you don't have MVP.
