Mistake in buying BCV last May?

Well, there is no way to tell how long the waitlist would be for adding points. I would guess there would be too many factors to make an educated guess.
Remember that a 50 point add-on can be used every third year as 150 points. That may work better for you if you add-on at a different resort.
Booking at the seven month window is not usually a problem (as reported here), except during the busy times... (Christmas VWL, F&W BCV, BWV ect...)

I think you made a good choice....

Nice point Maistre Gracey. I hadn't thought about using the 50 points every third year as a 150 point trip. Maybe I will think about adding on at VWL instead. Hubby loves the place and I must admit I had forgotten how lovely it really is. This might be the way for us to go. Anyone out there with add on waitlist stories for VWL? ;)

I can understand just how you felt! We too bought 150 add-on pts at BCV last March. We sold back the pts too. Our first trip Home to BCV will be this Oct. But THEN...... we just bought 100pts add-on this month at BCV........... they did not offer any deals...... $84/pt!! If we waited just a little while longer we could have had 100pts cheaper with the deals AND more years!!!
I feel we did a very dumb thing!!! :(

Not that we would be alive to go that long, but my grandchildern would!! :p Oh well, that's life!!!

I really hope we like it!!!!!!

1) Whoa.
2) Who would buy a timeshare and think to sell it close to retail?
3) Disney keeps the prices artificially high.
4) This is an exception, but I guess it will stop sometime.
5) Most resales are only worth 1/3-1/2 of retail.

Time will tell, but I do think that BCV is eventually going to be a tough reservation to get 7 months out, at almost any time of the year. People that bought at HH and VB to stay at WDW are going to be trying to get in there, along with lots of people that own at OKW and SSR, and a few from WLV too. Then add the location-happy BWV owners that want to stay at BCV to swim at SAB. We own at both OKW and BCV, and split our stays. But I so enjoy being at BCV, I think I will be wait listing there whenever we book with OKW points (except when we're taking guests and need the extra room). I'm sure I will have to get in line! My original post said to sell it close to what the RESALE price is currently going for now, NOT close to retail. You misquoted me.
I understand timeshares don't resale for what they were originally paid for. And this was just my way of saying would the resales of the current DVC properties plummet after SSR goes on sale cause it would have the longer contract life.

hey I brought OKW for $57.50 a point now it sells in $68 to $70 range - yes Disney does kept it prices high- will Disney always even when they aren't trying to sale an new DVC resort do this - who knows - but kept in mind that Disney is very, very good at renting the WDW resorts that they own - so I would think they have a good reason to kept the resale price high.

Marriott does not use their buy back option and they have good resale price on the whole.

So I think it is also reputation in the business - both Disney and Marriott have an excellent reputation.

Fairfield resale market is $.02 to $.04 per point - now that is sad and I really think that Fairfield should start to do something so that their owners (who brought from them) will not feel taken. But I feel until 2025 that DVC resales will still be pretty good - could be wrong - but time will tell.

your add on question - I have 60 points at VWL and 50 points at BWV for December use - holidays are easy to get at any DVC resort - however - low point season - especially after Thanksgiving until Dec 14 when the Adventure Season ends is very difficult - alot of DVC members go at this time - some only go at this time - it is beautiful all the parks are decorated.... my favorite time.... low crowds....

anyway 60 points at VWL is enough for a studio for 5 days Sun-Thurs nights - and 50 points at BWV - you can get a standard view at the 11th month time. So this systems works very well for me - if I wanted a one-bedroom - I would just have to change go to VWL one year then the next year do BWV - I just have to learn not to be so generous with my points... Find something that works for you....

The extention alone will not be enough to make SS that popular. What will happen is that we start seeing posts that say "I bought SS but wish I had BCV, VWL, BWV, etc.".

I sure wouldn't worry about your resale value. A great number of members don't even want to use their membership for more than ten years or so. That means they'll gladly pay you $70-74 per point with the knowledge that they're saving money and can sell the remaining 29 years and still come out on top!

You made a good decision.

I just sent in my paperwork for closing last Friday for BWV.
After reading about SSR, the incentives, and longer contract. I twinged slightly, but then thought that I can also wait a few years after I pay this one off and look at the SSR resales.

Not many BCV resales, but I bet there will be for SSR.

Peace

BCV isn't our favorite right now. My kiddos are small and we are really Magic Kingdom people at this point in time. But I don't regret buying at Beach Club. It's very "top of the line," way nicer than any place I could afford to stay if paying cash. The whole area, with Boardwalk and all its action so close, is very special. The grounds are gorgeous and you sure can't beat that pool. The place is and always will be, very popular. So we get first dibs on rooms there, even if we ultimately choose to stay elsewhere. As the kids get older, the area at BCV is going to get more and more appealing. So even though I often choose OKW (we love it and the points are low) and the Lodge is my favorite "deluxe," I am really glad we own at BCV! I think we'll like SSR, but BCV has that "wow" factor.
