I think I may have made a mistake
Trying to do disneyland after our Disney cruise in Mid sept..

I had hoped the summer travel season would be over and kids would be back in school.. But with cars land opening I think the crowds will be horrible :sad2:

We come into LA port on a Sunday and
I planned on going DL and DCA on Sunday, mon. Tue, weds, leaving LATE weds night..
my kids are 6 and 10mo. Old...

Sunday : dropped off at Disneyland hotel..( grandparents taking luggage to near by hotel) we are taking the kids to the DL..
Monday: DCA
Tuesday: DL
Wens day : DCA only until 1pm tho..

Am I crazy, or will the crowds be to much ? Should we try to stick to one park?

First of all, the whole idea of "crazy" is crazy. DLR has new stuff every year and every year folks get all stressed about it. It is rarely crazy at DLR unless you are talking NYE. It does get busy but with the proper approach is totally manageable.

The answer to the question behind your question depends heavily on when you are going in September. Which days are you planning?

:wizard:

I think you'll be fine. Schools will be in sessions by then. We are in the Capo Unified district, and we're one of the last to go back to school compared to others. We go back the Tuesday after Labor Day. The only problem with September is it may be a little warmer than the other times of the year. Have fun, and enjoy!

I agree, you should be fine. There will always be long lines, but maybe not as long around that time?

DH & I are also planning a mid-Sept. trip (9/8-9/17) w/ our 2 young DS's & are betting (hoping, praying, keeping all our fingers tightly crossed) that it won't be crowded.

Our logic is that it SHOULDN'T be due to the fact that school will be back in session and who pulls their kid out of school for a DL vacay as soon as school starts? Cars Land or no, this is SUPPOSED to be the SLOW season.

We assumed we'd be missing the start of Halloweentime, too, but discovered it's beginning a couple days earlier this yr. on the 14th. Anticipate there will be an influx of ppl coming in to see the decorations that wkend. :headache:

But I refuse to stress about the crowd levels (or at least I try really hard not to...). There's nothing we can do about it anyway since we want our boys to experience Cars Land before our AP's expire in Oct. & we move. This really does seem like a good time to visit. I think. And, frankly, you couldn't PAY me to go this summer! ;)

Here's what we've found on midweek days rated as "1" out of "10." The "big" rides have very little wait. They also won't have FP available if the stand by wait is under 20 minutes. With school in session, there are not that many families with school age kids there. However, the rides with no height restriction are still just as crowded as always. We were the on a Monday in early May. We walked on to Space Mountain, but waited 30 minutes for Dumbo and It's a Small World.

To be honest I think it is going to be "crazy" for the next few years! So bite the bullet and do it, you will still have a fantastic time even if it is more crowded than usual. I think the empty times of year at the DLR are slowly fading away to a thing of the past, but I still have a great time.

I still think September is one of if not the slowest times of year. I don't think it will be "crazy" even with CarsLand opening up, but I agree that the kiddie rides can be the busiest (those kids aren't in school yet). Plan on doing Peter Pan first at rope drop. Just like HydroGuy says that if you have a plan and use the system, it is totally manageable.

Mid September they usually close early M-Th and don't show Fantasmic, so if you want to see that you'll need to see it Sunday night.

+1 for the "no worries, you'll be fine" sentiment. I doubt Cars Land is going to have that much of an impact all the way out into September. Personally I think it'll just be packed for a couple of weeks after opening and then things will settle down. For hardcore Disney fans and maybe folks who don't get out there too often, it's understandably a big deal, but So Cal is full of entertainment options -- with new ones popping up all the time -- so I'd wager the locals will have it out of their system well before Fall and then it'll just be a marginally higher tourist count this year than in the past few, but nothing prohibitive. Let's hope I'm not dead wrong :lmao:

We've done it twice. Once for 6 days at Disneyland in 2009, and last year to WDW for 2 weeks.

I ask "who does this?" knowing FULL WELL that WE will... someday, LOL!! There's no way I'd EVER do The Mouse during summer or other designated school breaks and fight those kinds of crowds. :goodvibes

I expect it to be as busy as it was just after Labour Day 2007 when I was there. I was quite shocked at how many people were there.

I thought it was busy for a mid week trip. I know in 2008 when we went to WDW it wasn't as crowded to me at about the same time of year.

Weekdays in September are very nice. Getting worried about crowds is just a waste of time. My wife and I look forward to September, because Labor Day seems to signal the end of the summer crowds. The Sunday might be busy, but the rest of your visit should be just fine. Relax and go with the flow and you should have a nice visit.

I think people are getting worked up over nothing personally! Hydroguy said it, there is ALWAYS something new opening at these parks! So yeah you have to embrace there will be interest all year long any time something new comes out.

And also people over exaggerate some of this sometimes! It will STILL be September, ie, kids go back to school, vacations are over, parents back to work, etc. Sure there will be people like you who will be taking vacations, but it will be nothing close to the summer season.

Will it be busier than usual at this time of year, probably! But will it be crazy busy, probably not. DCA will probably be a bit more with CL of course and all the new offerings but DL will probably be about the same. And its not going to be 2-3 hour waits and all of that either like it will at the height of summer.

I mean I heard ALL of this just a year ago when Star Tours 2 and TLM came out and there was all this hysteria how these rides would be swamped all year and that parks were going to be very busy the entire time. People were predicting ST would be 3 hour waits all summer! The reality was after the first few weeks, ST fell to around 60 mins average most of the summer and was 30-45 mins in September and was around 20 mins on weekdays. TLM was a walk on by the second week of opening.

So I wouldnt reschedule plans just yet. CL will be slammed all summer, but like everything it will balance itself out and will start to fall into more reasonable times by the August. RSR will probably be very popular for a long, long time, but it doesnt mean DCA is going to be jam packed either. It just means most people who go to the park will make that a priority like they do TSM or Soarin, but the park and resort itself wont probably be all that different that time of year.

We're coming in October and while I'm a bit worried, I figure we'll just have a good time no matter what. If we only get to see those attractions once, that's OK by me. But I did read an interesting post on TouringPlans.com a while ago that made me feel better. They predict that after about 3-4 months the attraction settles into its "normal" wait time. Just arrive at opening, etc. and we should all be fine!

Agreed with this ... nothing stays hot forever, and in So Cal, new attractions have a shorter 15 minutes in the spotlight than most other places because there are so many choices of entertainment and new things are opening all the time. I think we get a skewed view of the new DCA attractions as Disney fanatics. It's a HUGE deal for us but just a minor one for the rest of the world :)

By contrast, I live in the SF Bay where there aren't many amusement parks, so when one like Great America gets a new attraction, it stays crowded for a long time because there isn't much competition.

Also, "crowded" is all relative. Having lived in LA for a while, I've never seen DLR be crowded in September "for real" the way it is around Christmas break and New Year's. But for folks from less populated places, it can seem crowded year round. Likewise, going somewhere like Shanghai or Manila feels real crowded to me pretty much 24/7, but the locals probably don't notice it.

Relative to other times of year at DLR, I'd be really surprised if the Cars Land opening has ripple effects in September, much less October. Certainly no reason to cancel a or reschedule a trip IMHO...

In my experience mid-September is a great time to go! I usually plan an annual trip mid-week in mid-September and I love it! Then again, I don't ever not love it ;)

To answer some questions
We are due in on the 16th and leaving on the 19th

We are coming in on a Disney cruise, so I just planned all 900 people off the cruise will be joining us at DL.
But I would think even with that it still shouldn't be to bad..

BTW I am taking my child out of school, but only b/c it's the only time my hubby could get off work, unfortunately is busy times are feb.- early sept. So it pretty much excludes all my kids school vacations.. :(

Little info as well.. We go to WDW almost every other year.. So if we miss a few rides that we can do at WDW I'm not worried..

However the ones that are only at DL are at the top of our list, hope we can get them all..
Does anyone know of list of the rides at DL? This way I can sort out which ones will be on the top of out list??

Thank you all
