Missoniares arrested in Haiti

Sorry, If I found a child that was starving or bleeding to death, I'm going to do whatever I have to to get this child help. So If had to be in jail for trying to save a child life so be it

Would you steal the child from the parents? Those children HAD parents who did not want to give up their children. These people need to be in jail.

And not some cushy U.S. jail... they are looking at jail in Haiti.... :scared1:

I agree with most of you. Kidnapping is kidnapping, no matter how many times you try to dress it up as something different.

These people were wrong and they've done much more harm then good. At this point it doesn't matter what their intentions were, they tried to take Haitian children, some with living parents, out of the country illegally. It was wrong plain and simple.

Now their actions may cause even more distrust of missionaries who are doing things right and obeying the laws, all because of these peoples actions, its a shame.

PalmTreeGirl I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Actions like this can make foreign governments very suspicious of other missionary groups. The people of Haiti need every bit of help they can get now and to have groups slowed down by scrutiny over their intentions is going to keep aid from reaching the people who need it the most.

I agree.

None of it sounds right. The 8 year old crying saying her parents are alive was a pure call for justice. It's strange and perplexing if in fact they were trying to help. It just has so many holes. :sad2: Not good at all.

I'm just glad the children were found before they were separated from their families forever.

Yes, something is definitely off with their story. I also heard that the children were pleading and crying that they were not orphans, and had family in Haiti. I don't know if this group felt like they were "above the law" since they were doing God's work or if their intentions were much darker, but something was not right with their story.

the problem is, when they go into a country and pull something like this, while listing themselves as missionaries, it gives ALL Missionaries a bad name. You really have to be careful about what you do when you're representing a group.

Well I had sympathy when it was reported that they were taking kids from a collapse orphanage that I had presumed their entity operated and they were just relocating them to another orphanage in the Dominican Republic.

But if it is as it seems that their stories were fabricated, then this was not honest missionary work.

I have not followed up on the story. Probably b/c I didn't sense that there was any wrongdoing by the govt in having them arrested. I just didn't have the usual sympathy I do when there is a real misunderstanding. So I guess the story seemd off from the start even though I didn't totally realize it at the time.

They are kidnappers, pure and simple.

Taking kids across an international border without permission, when help COULD have been found within their own country--NOT okay.
I don't care if they call this a "mission" or whatever.

So, if you ever found yourself in trouble and homeless, you would be perfectly ok for some stranger to just come and take your son and daughter without your permission, while you were still alive, and take them to another country because they thought they could provide for them better?

Good question:thumbsup2

How exactly does going to jail help the child?:confused3 Even if their intentions were honorable, which doesn't appear to be the case, how did going to jail help the children? :confused3

Their story stinks. A lot of people hide behind God's name and use religion to do misdeeds.

When I first heard the story I thought there is some misunderstanding then as I read I went :scared1:

clearly something stinks!!!!! I'm willing to bet they are NOT missionaries and this is a cover..:sad2:

I just find it incredible that out of 10 "missionaries", not one questioned what they were doing was wrong. I just don't buy that all 10 were that naive. Way too fishy. I think those 10 are right where they should be.

This story makes me so sad and a bit angry too. I wish those missionaries had considered the fact that they were essentially kidnapping those kids. Even if they really did have a heart for helping those children in Haiti, then they needed to do it in a legal way. Also, as previous posters mentioned, I hate that this gives missionaries who do great work an undeserved bad reputation. There is definitely something "hinky" with this group.
