Mission Space. Yay or nay?

Okay so my family is a little weary about Mission Space. The first time we heard about it it sounded amazing and so exciting. BUT then we started hearing don't look left, don't look right, don't close your eyes, eat bananas before hand. I know going on this ride can't be that stressful. We did not know how to take any of those suggestions. Does anyone have any advice about the ride? What to do to not get sick? Is it even as bad as it sounds? I haven't been to Disney World since 2001, our last trip was to DisneyLand so Mission Space is a whole new thing to us. Anything that will inform us more about this awesome but scary ride let me know! Thanks.

Have ridden it several times now and haven't been sick at all.

You answered your own question as to what do do. Just pay attention to, and follow, what the posted signs tell you to do. The reason for not closing your eyes, etc. is because you will be spinning so you need to stay focused on the monitor before you. If you suffer from motion sickness, etc. it is best to avoid this ride and best not to eat a meal just before riding.

Real life astronauts have said it is about as realistic as can be made. Hope you'll enjoy it.

I love Mission Space! I was a little unsteady after my first ride, but I was fine. FWIW, I get sick on Star Tours, but not on Mission Space. Go figure.

Just think about this. When you lift off, you cannot move your arms or feet. Once you are in space, it's amazing....


DW rode it in December and I will just say this. She didn't do to well. She literaly had to sit down for like 2 hours. So I went and rode TT. She felt ok after getting something cool to drink. If anyone feels sick, just have them sit and if they don't mind go off and ride another ride. I know when I feel sick, just leave me alone... Then if they are feeling up to it, head to Ice Station Cool and just have them try the Beverly...

We just got back and did not do the ride. We asked several people about Mission Space and decided this was not the year to try. Only one family out of several said they loved it and had no trouble. they said it was no worse than the take off of Rock-n-roller coaster. THey too said if you just keep your eyes open and concentrate on your screen..you will be ok. What has deterred us from riding has been the over abundance of people saying that half of their parties got sick. Over and over again, we heard the same thing. We just didn't want to chance feeling ill for part of our vacation. Also, one woman completely turned me off to it because she said that it smelled like puke when you walked in because so many people get sick. Everyone is provided with a courtesy barf bag. That was enough deterrent for me. Maybe I'll try it next year.

My (then) 5 year old went on it and loved it. I thought it was pretty tame. If you or anyone in your party is a 'barfer' then you may want to avoid it. My stepdad was pretty sweaty afterwards and needed to sit down for a minute. My dh flies fighter jets, so everything is tame to him. No barf factor for any of us whatsoever.

My sister and I really enjoy Space. It's quite the thrill. Though, I get a little light-headed and lose my footing for a few secs after riding it. Though, my sister does not...she's perfectly fine after riding. It all depends on the person. Try to go when it's less empty... the line may look short, but the inside is pretty big...so check the wait time or do fastpass. In my opinion, I would go.

I rode it in September with DW, DS, and DD. My kids are young and small and couldn't reach the controls to do their part with the show so my wife and I had to do it for them. That means we were looking all over the place. No problems here. I loved the ride personally and I am looking forward to riding it again soon. I will say if you are feeling a little sick before hand; Don't Ride! Otherwise, have fun and do what you want to do.

I haven't been to WDW since 2001, looking forward to upcoming trip in July, so Mission Space will be new for me as well. I didn't realize it was so controversial.

I've ridden all kinds of rides my whole life and never felt sick. Is Mission Space above and beyond the physical effects of a modern coaster or something like Tower of Terror???

I took my twin niece and nephew (then 6) on it last August and we had a ball. No problems at all! But then again I have never gotten sick on a ride that goes around and around! We are looking forward to this years trip! It really is a very cool ride! Their parents did not go because sometimes they get motion sickness.

We lucked into being at the parks the first week Mission Space was open. My dd14 and I got in line to ride. The pre-ride warnings scared my dd and she tried to talk me into chickening out. I managed to get her onto the ride by pointing out a little boy (7 or 8) who was also riding. He said he had ridden it several times that day and it was not scary at all. (The warnings are more frightening than the ride.)

During "lift off", my dd laughed and screamed, "This is the best ride ever! I love this ride!""

Mission Space is one of my favorite rides, and I don't like rollercoasters. As long as you look at the screen and don't close your eyes, you don't realize that you are spinning. You don't feel like you are spinning at all, you feel like you are taking off into space on a rocket ship.

a YAY!! vote from me. read all about MS and others experiences and almost didnt try it. followed directions of looking sraight ahead and it was just a great time. i am so happy that i have another must do attraction at Epcot. the best part is this july i am sure i am going to add another must-do... Soarin'

I was fine the first time I rode on it. The DS8 and DH wanted to do it again. I figured I handled it once I can do it again. I was technically ok but I was feeling a little green around the gils. So i decided that one time is enough. We went back later in the day to do it again and I was fine.

I say you should try it at least once.

You have to give it a try! My family has been riding it since the first week it opened. It is a blast. My DDs,8 & 6 Love it! No problems...in fact, we have ridden it so much we are a little bored of it. But we still ride it. MS is unlike anything else I have experianced. The warnings are way over the top IMO.
Stay focused on the screen and remember to breathe. It is definately worth the risk of getting sick...either you do or you don't I guess...but I can't imagine walking past this one.

Count me as one of the "Yay" votes. It's a great ride in my opinion, although I think there was too much hype and all the scary warnings in the beginning for the actual ride. It's not as bad as it sounds! Do what my DM always does. Make a rule that once you get in line, there's no turning back.

Count me as a Yay vote as well. It's a really cool ride and about as close to actually blasting off into space as most of us will ever get. Don't miss it!
