hi everyone! i haven't been on these boards in a long time and i am sure my question has already been asked, but i'll ask anyway. i'm heading to wdw nov 29- dec 8 with my family. i would really like to try mission space, but i am scared i ill get sick. i have no problems on tower of terror or rnr or dinosaur. i can also handle dueling dragons at ioa. however at times though i get motion sick on other things. i can not go on anything that spins or goes in a circle (my friend made me go on astro orbiter in june and i will never do that again) i also don't do well on star tours/body wars. given all that-could i handle it? i don't trust my mother or brothers to try it first and tell me the truth. my father would tell me the truth, but unfortunately he doesn't go on anything "crazy" i figured you all would give me honest opinions. i would appreciate any info. thanks.

We do not care for spinny rides and certainly don't like Astro-Obiter, however I rode Mission Space back to back 2 weeks ago and had no trouble at all.
I was pretty concerned as was my husband about being sick, so we planned it for late in the evening (so we didn't have to wander around sick all day) and both of us and our 11 year old daughter loved it. If you follow the recommendations and watch the screen and keep your head back you should be okay.
I think the problem is that we have all overloaded our brains with hype about this ride and created a monster in our head. My husband was so worried that he skipped dessert (because he didn't want to hurl and good Epcot dessert post ride)
You may not like it although I think everyone should give it a try at least once. The takeoff is pretty intense and another part along in the ride but all in all a very enjoyable ride. We would have been extremely disappointed if we didn't step up for this ride.
Go for it and have fun I say, remember this is Disney world. How bad could it be?
Good Luck!

The first time I didn't feel anything, I was very focused on looking straight ahead. DH closed his eyes and felt ill.

Just went back on two weeks ago right after eating breakfast. This time I felt the g forces, I also started to get a panic attack from the belt pressing down on my shoulders and chest. I don't like that feeling anyway, so I kept my hands in between for some space, but it kept pressing harder down as ride progressed. I couldn't wait for it to be over. The man next to me just looked at me, I thought he might lose it. The woman and little girl on the ride were kind of freaking out. I told the Mom to look straight ahead and she kept yelling to the girl -- look straight, look straight. You could tell she was freaking out, which kind of freaked me out. All in all it was not pleasant. I felt sick, had to go to first aid and get antacids. I layed down on a bench and felt queasy for a few hours. I was ok by lunch time. I don't think I'll be riding it again. I would give it a try if I were you, it was a neat experience on my first trip. I think my problem was too soon after eating.

Well to be honest when I went with my 20 ds and 22 dd and first went on the ride I were SO scared because of all the warnings posted as your approach to go inside the pavilion. I honestly was getting so scared that I was ready to take the chicken exit right before we entered the ride, but I guess plain ol' stubborness made me decide that I should ride it ONCE and then never again if it was too scary, if for no other reason, then just to say I DID IT with my kids! well I did it and it was awesome... honestly...... I looked straight ahead, I did feel the g forces and I didn't close my eyes, it was beautiful, and keep in mind...... its less that 4 minutes!

The g forces were quite strong. My cheeks kept getting tighter and tighter during the takeoff. I wondered when it would stop. Once we got into the air the g forces stopped and I enjoyed the ride. I don't do the Teacups or tilt a whirl or Body Wars as they make me nauseous; however, I looked straight ahead and kept my head back and I never once felt sick.

It may be the Power of Suggestion at work here. I agree with valeriekc about creating a monster in our head. I went on the "ride" four times with senior citizens and also children. Afterwards, I saw nothing but smiles and heard nothing but excited (somewhat relieved) laughter. I feel sorry for Disney, since most of the time I walked on and there was no one waiting in line. They spent millions and millions of dollars and a few people MAY BE ruining it for everyone else.

Listen to the instructions! It's not rocket science. Keep your head back, your eyes open and look straight ahead, just as if you were driving a car at 37,000 mph. Would you close your eyes or look around if you were going that fast in real-life? I don't think so. This "ride" is nothing like the Mad Tea Party! You can get really dizzy there. :D

There may seem to be a lot going on on your first mission. I hope you like it and go again, because then you can try to move your arms or legs and really feel the 1.5 G. The first time was the best, however.

There are very few rides I can't tolerate so I didn't think I'd have a problem with M:S -- WRONG!!!! I felt like I was going to vomit everywhere. I had to do some very deep breathing to avoid having a panic attack. My DD(7), on the other hand, loved it and rode it again with my DH who also thought it was great and wasn't the least bit queasy. Go figure. I will definitely try it again on our next trip, but if I have the same experience again, my days of traveling to Mars may be over.

My DH and I rode it a few weeks ago. I rode it twice, back to back, but he didn't want to ride it again. He was a little disoriented.

The interesting note that he and I discussed, is that it *wasn't* the launch, and the g-forces (RnR has *much* higher g's, btw), it was the part at the end that made him a little dizzy. No spoiler, but that's the one part where someone might get a little vertigo. DH said it wasn't from the ride movement, it was from the _video_ conflicting with the feeling of movement.

If you can handle RnR, you should be able to handle this. It's not like a normal simulator ride. It's not like anything else in the parks, but it's a wonderful experience.

We had read all the hype about MS. The first time I rode it my stomach felt a little queasy. The g forces during liftoff took me by surprise. We felt fine though when we got off.

We went again two more times during our stay. At the launch I just did lamaze breathing, concentrating on breathing and I didn't have any problems at all with the ride at all.

I say try the ride. They really do keep reminding you before you get on the ride that you could have problems.

I think what makes MS different from other rides at WDW is that it totally immerses you in the experience. On Body Wars, Star Tours, even the Teacups you are aware of your surroundings and can look around and separate youself from what you are seeing and feeling. MS, however seems to me to be realistic in every way, a true simulation. The capsule is enclosed and at no time to you look around thinking "Gee, I'm spinning." It's an incredible experience, my new favorite at WDW.

That said, it's seems it's not for everyone. No one else in my family wanted to ride it again after the first time. Everyone enjoyed it, no one was sick (though a couple were just a bit queasy), but once was enough for them. I used their Fastpasses and rode 4 times in a row with no problems. What a rush!

I'd say try it once and see how you do with it. You may be missing out on something you'll find really special.

DisnutDave@work , I agree with you. I didn't feel the spinning at all because there is so much going on with your ride. One time we rode with all of our party, the other times we rode with others. We had a blast each time.

I don't do roller coasters, daring rides, etc. But this was great. I can't wait to do it again.

thanks everyone for your help. i'm going to give it a try when i go in 3 weeks. based on what everyone has said i think i would regret not giving it a try. thanks so much!

::MickeyMo "Well hi there everybody!"

This shows my ineptitude...
Just look at the thread "The science" in this forum, hope it helps...

Hope I can also distinguish between 'new reply' and 'new thread' in the future... Rich ::

After reading this thread, deciding whether to go on this or not, I decided no. It seems like too much "work" to feel ok throughout this ride. Me... I want to get on a ride and enjoy it, no worry about looking straight ahead, keeping my head back, etc .etc. Seems like too many directions to follow. I just want to have fun!!:Pinkbounc
