Mission Space- things to do besides the ride?

I have to admit I've never set foot in this attraction. Being a sufferer of motion sickness I've never considered actually doing the ride (even the mild version) But I'm currently watching a "Destination America" program on tv that is showing MS and it's got me to wondering if there are things inside the attraction that are interesting/fun WITHOUT going on the ride itself.

Anyone? Is it worth going inside and exploring? What's to do/see? :confused3

There is a space themed play area called the Advanced Space Lab between the ride exit and the gift shop that you exit through. My daughter wanted to linger there so long I left her there with her mother to find a restroom and come back, so I know you can enter the gift shop (to the left of the attraction entrance) and go into the play area.

At the exit from the ride there is the Advance Training Labs. An assortment of games that are space and Mars themed. Also a play area for little ones. Here's a link that explains them a bit: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/attractions/epcot/mission-space-advanced-training-lab/

You might reconsider your decision not to ride Mission Space. I can get sick just thinking about riding in a car as a passenger, but I can do the mild (green) side of this ride with no problems at all. Really, the only people who would have a problem with it are those who are claustrophobic.

I think you are right not to try the ride. I get sick feeling on both sides and don't really have a big problem with motion sickness.

The game area in the 'exit' section does have some fun things to do, so go through the gift shop at the exit and try out the games.

I get sick in all of these kinds of simulators. So, I skip it. But I do go into the exit and wait for my son to ride it. It has a great play area. And there is a way to make web postcards to send to yourself and other people. These are soo much fun so be sure to check them out!

Aww sorry you can't ride one of my wife's and mine fav rides in all WDW. There is a big play area like everyone has said.

The Advanced Training Lab is a BLAST!! There is a large interactive game that involves many people, and is great for all ages! We always stop and play for a while, with or without kids!! These are some of the best memories my boys have, and people tend to rush past. We always love to take the pictures from outer space, remember to have your friends emails with you!!!

Thanks everyone! The Training Lab looks like FUN! yay! Imagine, after all these years/trips something NEW for me in Epcot! (well TT will be "new" this trip, in a sense)

I can do Star Tours w/o any problem. Can't do Tea Cups and other spinny-type rides. I don't get carsick (I can even read in the back seat as long as I take periods of looking out the windshield every now and then) but I do get seasick (saltwater only) - like almost as soon as the boat stops and the rocking starts.
My husband, on the other hand, can go out in the ocean (fishing all day) in the roughest seas and deepest swells and not feel a bit queasy. BUT.... he feels yucky watching the Circle 360 shows in Epcot WS! Odd, right? He felt funny in his stomach for hours after doing Mission Space (the regular side).
I wish I knew for sure whether or not it would effect me, bc it looks like fun! Maybe if I take Ginger capsules beforehand?? Don't want to take motion sickness tabs as they knock me out!!

Then I don't see why you can't do the non-spinning side.

When you say your husband rode the "regular" side, which one was that? I think the spinning side was the original version, so to me that's regular. That one spins fast to simulate the g-forces. While I'm sure there are people who would be ill on it no matter what, you're supposed to ONLY feel the g-forces if you only stare straight forward and do NOT look around. That way you're supposed to not feel the spinning. Turn your head, though, and your inner ear notices the problem and makes you dizzy/sick. Sounds to me like your husband went on that side.

The non-spinning side is far milder IMO than Star Tours. And if the videoscreen bugs you, close your eyes and you'll notice how little you're actually moving.

I had a strong reaction to Mission Space Orange even though I don't usually become motion sick. I followed all the rules, kept my head back and eyes forward, but I felt the spinning as soon as it started. After riding I had to go back to the resort and lie down, and it took several hours before I felt like myself again. However, I can ride Mission Space Green with no issues at all. As a pp said, if anything it's less likely to trigger motion sickness than Star Tours, simply because Star Tours is 3D and MS isn't. I think you'd probably be fine with MS:G as long as you don't suffer from claustrophobia--the ride vehicle is very small and you're completely closed in.

Mission Space has two potential issues for guests: motion sickness and claustrophobia. I dunno about crazymom, but lots of people who generally don't struggle with confined spaces get freaked out by the ride.

My little one loves that area! While I ride my Gram will take her in there and getting her to leave is like pulling teeth. She also loves all of the books on astronauts in the gift shop and alternates between a career in that and wanting to be a mermaid. :rotfl: Oh to be 5!

But the OP didn't say she has claustrophobia. And she did say she can do ST. which has way more motion than MS.

I know. But from past threads a lot of people can't put their finger on what bothers them about the ride because their not accustomed to the sensation of claustrophobia.

I don't think it's the case of people who haven't ridden it, though, I think they are generally just going by the reputation of the ride.

Yes, DH went on the "original" version.

No problems with clausterphobia, no.
When we were little my bro and I used to clear out the stuff from the cabinet under the kitchen sink and climb in with a flashlight and pretend we were in a submarine. Small and cramped even tho we were little, and dark too. Back then kids used to actually PLAY! ;) One generation later, my kids "virtual play" just about everything on one screen or another.

Hmmmm This thread has really caused me to re-think going on the mild side!
I have 6 mos to research it and decide, but I really appreciate everyone's input here! Thanks:thumbsup2

Honestly then, "Mission: SPACE - Green Team Less Intense Training" may be right for you. All it does is shake a bit, and the capsule swings up a little. Really, it barely moves. There is a smallish video screen in front of you (everyone gets their own) that has semi-3d graphics. If that btothers you you can just close your eyes. However, do keep in mind that your team is counting on you to perform your assigned duties, and if you don't, well...you could be lost en-route to Mars. ;)

the more I read, the more I'm thinking YES! .... the green side is calling me! :lmao:
I've told my family I'm doing ToT this trip too! That will be a 1st for me as well! I'll be 50 yrs old the same month of our trip, what better time to turn over a new, more daring, leaf! :yay:
