Just got back from Disney World- Mission Space Training, the new Epcot one was open for previews a few hours a day. We went into it last night. The ride is a simulation of lift off and then into space. You spin and if you keep your eyes straight ahead you aren't suppose to feel it. HA! My grandson loved it, I did not care for it. The force against you is very strong, I have asthma and it was hard to breath. One person in our party got very ill from the spinning although she looked straight ahead. I opened my eyes once we landed on Mars and it was really cool, all the kids loved it. Because the person with us got so ill, one of the attendants did tell us security had called for in park ambulances 6 times in
the previous 3 hours! Crowds were not bad. We got there early in the morning and saw everything we wanted, got on the rides. Early afternoon it started to get crowded. Overall, we thought the crowds were not bad and were very happy with our trip!

I've read several posts now that have me concerned about going on the Space attraction. We were sooo excited about it but I have gotten sick on virtual reality attractions and I'm not sure I want to end up in an ambulance. What if you shut your eyes - does that help? Seems like the really young riders love it and the adult riders are getting a bit more than they bargained for. Would you go on it again?

i was lucky enough to ride space 3 times last week and would strongly suggest keeping your eyes open and focused on your screen. when you watch your screen you feel like you are moving forward and not spinning. if you close your eyes you will feel the spinning and to attain the amount of g's you feel you have to be spinning pretty fast. its easy understand why people get disoriented.
im not a spin ride person but i was able to handle this ride.
my party did a baby swap so i spent about 20 minutes at the ride exit and did see one person who needed medical attention but the majority of the people seemed ok.

Bob S - Is the ride heavily posted for medical conditions? My sister is going with me and she has a mechanical valve in her heart. I can't help but wonder if the spinning would be dangerous for her. I think the most exciting part of the ride must be the weightlessness. Ever since we were little kids we have all longed to experience what the astronauts experience. Was it pretty amazing?

to be honest i didnt pay much attention to the medical warnings but i would guess that she would be excluded. they do tell you repeatedly that the ride is intense and if you dont like dark enclosed spaces, spinning and loud noises you should not ride. i personally didnt find it too cramped or too loud.
the ride is really amazing. its hard to describe since there is no other ride to compare it too.
you will be subjected to heavy G forces at times during the ride, more so than the forces you feel on roller coasters. some people have negative reactions to the G's like nausea, dizziness etc. there is really no way to know how you will react unless you ride it. like i said earlier, im not a spin ride person, the teacup ride makes me ill but i was able to do this one for some reason.
the ride is also interactive and everyone has a job to do during the mission, so if you relax and get into the spirit of the ride you will probably be ok. hope you enjoy it

Thanks for the great info. Guess I'll just have to give it a go and hope for the best. I can't see not trying it after waiting all these years for it to open.

I just returned from WDW and was fortunate to ride Mission Space three times. After all the hype and reviews, I have to admit on the first ride I was a little disappointed and a bit disoriented, something akin to a sweeping view on one of the 360 degree films. The force did bother me, I would think someone with a heart condition would be advised to forgo the ride. Disney does an excellent job of posting you should opt out if spinning, force and darkness bother you. The darkness actually lasts for about two seconds. The second and third times I enjoyed it much more after knowing what to expect.

What's been posted before is correct: if you put your head back and keep your eyes on the screen ahead, you're less likely to have problems. If the force taking off on the RNR bother you, then you should not ride Mission Space. I did much better on the subsequent rides, and will definitely put it on the "absolute must" list on my next trip. My family totally loved it. It's definitely worth one try if you're in good health.
