OK, be honest. How scary is it? I can do space mountain fine but the idea of feeling totally weightless and all of that, plus getting shaken like crazy..anyone here unsure at first then love it? My DBF really wants me to ride it with him, last year i chickened out at the last "warning" sign ..so embarrassing...

Not really scary, it's actually very cool during the ride. I felt just a little queasy after, but DH felt really bad. We both love roller coasters, and nothing else in the parks bothers us, except Star Tours. Mission Space was easier on my stomach than Star Tours, though. I would do MS again, but I don't think DH would.

I know it doesn't bother some people at all. I think it would be best not to eat right before you go on it. :teeth:

I've never ridden (sp?) Mission Space, but waited in the waiting area (chicken's coop) for DH and DD. Once the ride was over, and they exited, the woman behind them stepped over to the trash can and 'threw up.' That alone was enough to keep me from riding, as I"m the 'motion sickness queen.' :headache:

It isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I have vertigo and have no problem riding it. Although, if DS8 and DH had they way about it we would ride it 10 times in a row. Couldn't do that though or I would be sick.

I usually don't get motion sickness (can ride Star Tours and Rock n Roller Coaster with no problem), but for some reason this ride made me really sick. As soon as I started riding it, I had really bad motion sickness.

I'm with SheDaisy on this one. I do not do roller coasters, but I do not get motion sickness. I thought M:S was great. I did it once, it was cool, and I feel no desire to do it again! Heck, this was the first time I ever did Space Mountain (chicken factor) and I thought that was great!

I won't go on it as I get bad motion sickness and I also do not do coasters. My ds went on it when he was 5 and he was fine, but most of the adults who got off after him were either puking or feeling sick. I do not plan to let him or his brother go on it again after the recent incident. Just too over cautious now

We rode this last year. My 9 year old (who's not even real keen on Splash Mountain!) insisted on riding this. I have never had any trouble with any type of rides in 40+ years nor has my hubby. I was petrified that my 9 year old would panic on it.... The ride began...you feel the g's against you...and my 9 yr old was whoopin and hollering....having a blast! He begged us to ride it again! Go figure...can't deal with the hill on Splash...thought MS was nothing but cool....LOL

have fun!

I guess I'm one of the few who feels that ride was positively awful! My favorite rides include Rockin' RollerCoaster, Space Mountain, Test Track, Tower of Terror, Soarin, etc. I've done all of the roller coasters at Universal and IOA. I am a thrill ride junkie in most respects (don't really like simulators, though.) However, I HATED Mission Space. I could not wait for the ride to be over and really thought I was going to freak out. I'm not sure if the feeling was due to vertigo or what - I just know I will NEVER go on it again!

and DFi and I rode it several times last year and neither of us ever had a problem. We even ate dinner and went on it shortly after and didn't have a problem. Star Tours is the only thing at WDW that has every made me sick and it wasn't too bad. I didn't think it was scary at all and I didn't notice the jerkyness b/c I was so immerssed in the story.
My best friend and her hubby rode it the first time with us, she is extremely claustraphobic and gets mild motion sickness, her hubby has worse motion sickness. Her husband didn't have a problem at all, but she barely made it threw. She never actually got sick, but we did have to stop and let her rest for about 45 min after we got out of the ride before she felt well. Dizzy, nasaue, and weak knees wer her main symptoms. I believe her main issues were related to the claustraphobia more than the motion sickness.

I can't ride teacups (or Tilt-a-whirls) anymore, but M:S does not pose a problem for me. I don't think I could ride it multiple times in a row, but 2x is ok. I love the pressure on my chest during take-off. I figure that's as close as I'll get to a real lift-off. I wonder how many people are having trouble due to all the warnings. And for those who are claustrophobic, there is cool air blowing on you during the ride. It's Disney, and I don't think Mickey wants to harm you.

I can ride anything. I've ridden M/S twice on two separate trips. Came off mildly nauseous both times. Probably won't ride again.

Okay the first time i was scared out of my wits about going on with all those warning sighs really just ignore them its an awesome ride and is really fun just don't look to the sides then you might get sick

Same here I can go on anything splash,rNrc,space mountain... all the fast rides, I was totally sick on MS! Rhode it once, probably won't rise it again! I had to sit on the bench outside about 1/2 hour.

I'm not sure that others experiences are really going to tell how you will feel on the ride. My DW gets motion sickness easily, rode it because the kids talked her into it, and felt awful for the next few hours. Luckily we hadn't eaten yet, or it could have been messy. I can pretty much ride anything, and I felt a bit queasy afterwards. MY DS who is somewhere inbetween the two of us, felt fine, and my DD who loves spinning around, going upside down and all the crazy rides, absolutely loved it. But everyone is different. They say to keep your head as straight as possible, don't look around, but that is hard. There are other people there with you, all doing things. It is hard to simply look straight at your screen. I know I did look around a bit, and maybe that is why I was queasy. You just need to decide for yourself what to do.

I love Mission Space. I have been on it at least 6 times in the last 2 visits. Now, I will tell you this. All the guys in the family (DDad, DS, and me) love the ride. All the girls (DM, DW, and DD) all get sick on the ride and can't handle it. I believe they can't handle the pressure of the liftoff. I would say try it at least once. Otherwise, you won't know and that will bother you.

How about if you close your eyes? I know you will miss some but if I start getting queasy, I close my eyes and it seems to get better. Anyone else try this?

Does the ride actually move around on a track or is it all a motion simulator? Is it comparable to Spiderman or Back to the Future?

I'm hearing that the key is "Not to take your eyes off the screen" !!!
The screen keeps your mind thinking your taking off (up).

Since MS is NASA built...you are actually going round and round in a centrifuge to create the "G" force.

If you take your eyes off the screen...thats when ya get VERY SICK!!

I rode MS for the first time a little over a week ago (sigh). I went on the ride thinking I was surely going to throw up or die based on all the hype and all of the warnings before the ride, but I was pleasantly surprised. The lift-off was amazing!!! I definitely felt the G-Forces and got a little nervous, but I just took a deep breath and glued my eyes to the screen throughout the ride. Once the lift-off was over, I enjoyed the interactive part of the ride. I was the Navigator and got to fire the rockets! When the ride was over, my friend and I walked off, played around in Mission Control for a little bit, and couldn't stop talking about how neat the ride was. We ate shortly thereafter and continued on with our day. But regardless of my positive experience, please note that I have a particularly strong stomach. I love thrill rides and have never in my life been sick on a ride. I can easily see how someone with motion sickness could become sick on this ride, though. It's really intense but so worth it if you can handle it.
