USAToday published a short article by Tim O'Brien, editor of Amusement Business, that describes the ride from his perspective during a recent media preview. It's also interesting to note that Tim was told that Disney might have MS up and running ahead of the announced 8/15 public preview. Here are some exerpts from the article:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
"It's an amazing experience and an even more amazing ride system," says Tim O'Brien, an editor at Amusement Business magazine who rode it during testing. The ride officially opens Aug. 15, but Disney officials say it could be running on-and-off earlier.

After a "prelaunch briefing," riders climb into four-person capsules that tilt backward before takeoff so riders are lying on their backs. Monitors let riders see "outside."

O'Brien says the sense of realism is surprisingly strong. "Blastoff rumbles the capsule, (and) you sense you are going up. ... You see the smoke come up and around the capsule, and you feel an amazing amount of G-force. My cheeks started flapping because there was so much force."

After blastoff, riders feel the "booster rockets" drop off as the capsule reaches space. "You get this wonderful sense of weightlessness," O'Brien says. "You then feel a combination of G-forces as you are slung around the moon on your way to Mars."

I'm very excited, to say the least.

I can't wait!! Every review I hear it just gets better and better. I also hope one day they do a behind the scenes so we can learn just how they pull everything off.

Just waiting for all those who like to poop in the punchbowl ... c'mon, we know you're out there just waiting to tell us how terrible Mission Space is going to be.

It does sound pretty darn fun. Too bad I'm not going to get to ride it anytime soon. :(

No poop here. I can't wait to try it out in Oct.

...hey, for EUROPA, there's a sweepstakes to win a trip to the official opening of Mission:Space in Oct. Give it a try!

Irodk,

Thanks for the information. I can't wait to give it a shot in September.

Two of our CM friends who work in Innoventions got to be in one of the test groups to ride MS. One sent us an e-card from one of the after ride attractions.

As our friend was unable to give any details they did state "if you like rides you'll like it". They also said it wasn't like what they expected and they were sure if that was a good or bad thing.

We didn't really know how to take the email. It wasn't a negative by any means - just curious. From everything we've seen I think it will be great. It may just not be for everyone?

I don't think there's any question that the ride won't be for everyone: the force of 2Gs in a centrifuge is uncomfortable, and there are definitely people who are going to toss their cookies ... or mickey premium bars!
I have a sneaking suspicion that they've got some kind of cabin-washing system built in so that they can wash down the pods very quickly (and automatically). We'll know once someone can ride a few times and look for the french drain in the floor! :D

I wish they were already open . we are going next week and my DH is a BIG NASA/Space nut. He has pins, badges, and all kinds of collectables from NASA.
BTW, did anyone know that they hired machinics from major airlines to work and maintain this ride? Yep, they did. My DH came home from work one day telling me they had put a sign up on the bulltin board at the airlines he works for. I keep telling him when he retires he can go to work for Disney now LOL:p
