Mission: Space...did it make you sick?!

She may not have asked for moral guidance, but she posted what she thought was funny on an open forum, so I can express my opinion on it. And I don't think there is anything remotely funny about someone puking their guts out. :crazy2: And I say shame on anyone who would stand by and do so.

I'm SO GLAD I'm not the only one who thinks this was a HORRIBLE thing to do to someone!! I don't think it's one bit funny either ... :confused3

I wanted to go the ride because I wanted to experience space travel. I did everything right and still got sick. When we started to spin I felt it and since I didn't feel like throwing up but I got sick to my stomach started to sweat alot. I had to keep thinking about my breathing this helped. When we hit weightless it helped but when they kicked it towards mars that sensation came back. I don't know if I will go back and try it, maybe I will but not now.

I rode it last may and yes I did feel very sick after. I felt as if my stomach was in my throat! I felt that way for about 3 hours, it almost made me sit out sorin, but I didn't. I did feel better after riding sorin :cool1:

Myself, DS (10) and DW rode MS. Myself and DS several times, although the two of us on the tea cups are the blurry cup that they have to stop with the break. We found with the teacups and I bet the same with space that if we are not properly hydrated we get sick. So I wonder if that may have something to do with it and hot days? We rode it in December so there was no problem with the heat.

We are a family of 4...

myself = 40+ (stomach of steel as far as rides go)

hubby = 40+ (stomach of steel also)

son = 14 (just now starting to like Space Mountain at his age..oops)

son = 10 (HATED Space Mountain and cried before the ride stop..yikes!)

NONE of us had any issues with Mission Space! As a matter of fact my 10 yr old wants to hit that first in Epcot. We really can't see what the hype is about on it....if you follow the directions..the only intense part was the beginning. I was apprehensive at first with my boys but they loved it from the get go 2004. Its on our MUST DO list every visit. :cool1: (I think a lot of people get psyched out about it even before they get on and that could contribute some to a queasy stomach...my only worry was my boys...they love it..NONE Of us were queasy or dizzy at all)

best of luck,
Esmerelda

I can't believe how many other people have not felt "right" on this ride. I am with all of you that can ride anything, anytime and let me tell you when I was on this ride I felt like I could not breathe!! Very weird experience that I do not want to feel again!

Oh, lighten up, everyone! OP didn't ask for moral police, and this was between grown consenting adults who have the freedom to choose, and I'm assuming both could read the warnings equally well. Maybe you wouldn't do this to your sister, but you have no insight into their relationship.

If you had been sat near me on MIssion Space you would have thought i was giving birth with all the heavy breathing i was doing. :rotfl:
I was fine when you got to space and loved that part, but the taking off scared me i thought i was going to stop breathing so good old natural labour breathing came into effect.

WONT BE DOING THIS ONE NEXT TIME :scared1:

I went with my family of 4 last November. I think I figured out a good "test" for whether or not Mission Space will bother you. I talked to quite a few people and those who can read in a moving car did not have any trouble with MS. People who cannot read in a car or can only do it for short periods have varying degrees of difficulty with Mission Space. One of the grownups in my group felt "off" for hours after riding - I don't think any ride is worth feeling that bad, so I try to warn people who are susceptible to motion sickness at all that it may not be for them!

My mom and I thought it was rather mild, but then we're hard core thrill riders. My dad felt "off" for several hours but I think his has more to do with the centripical (sp? spinning thing) force as he said the teacups made him feel the same way.

would this ride, screw up my ears? I have perferated ear drums and have all sorts of problems with them. Would it be wise to skip this one? ate to go on a ride that would cause my equalibrium to be off or cause an ear ach for my vacation :o(

In May 2004 me, DH and DS went went on MS and absolutely loved it- no nausea, no headache, no after effects... nothin... DS and I returned last month and this time I had a scary time breathing on take off- it felt like I had pneumonia and couldn't get any air in my lungs. It really freaked me out (to be honest I am kind of glad to read that others have had similar problems- I was wondering if it was just me!) DS was fine, neither of us had any nausea, and I was fine after take off but... Hubby and I are going next Nov. and I think this time I will sit this ride out

I have only ridden MS once and I had absolutely no problems. My friend rode if first and loved it...said I HAD to try it! I was concerned that I would get really sick, as I do get seasick and can't do any of the spinning rides. :faint: But I had no problems with this...I did feel a little weird coming off of it, but not sick/nauseous/headachy.

I have not ridden it in subsequent trips, however...it is a very intense ride, especially the take-off...and I usually want to feel 110% before I consider riding it. Maybe I'll ride it again next week! :hyper:

I will never ride Mission Space again. *NEVER* ever!

My DH & DD got off & both loved it. My DH was thinking "Is that all there is?" :confused3 and my DD had no problems at all.

I, however, was another story. TMI, but I was *severely* :crazy2: nauseous for about three or four hours. I mean, the poor M:S CMs when I got off got me a wheelchair and kept on asking me if I needed to see the EMTs. No, I didn't (you moms will probably understand this), all I wanted was some saltines and some ginger ale. Luckily, my DH found some Mickey Pretzels(close enough to crackers) and Ice Station Cool was just a short wheelchair ride away & they had some Ginger Ale. I had periods of intermittent vertigo for about two or three days afterward.
A couple of things...
I cannot *do* teacups. Ever. NEVER ever (especially after the Tea Cup Ride From Hell in Myrtle Beach).
*BUT* I do love roller coasters, ToT, RnR...Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens/Williamsburg is one of my all-time favorites and I grew up going to Kennywood in Pittsburgh, PA. So I thought I would be ok.
BTW, I also followed all the directions to the letter, but my screen went out of phase at one point(don't know quite how to describe it, but the screen "shifted") and I knew I was a goner.
And I was. I really felt bad for my DD as it was her birthday and I sort of felt like I ruined it that year.

agnes!

:crazy2: I rode mission space and was never so sick and scared in my life..I am not usually afraid of rides..I love roller coasters and tot but I hated the feeling of mission space of not being able to move..like someone was sitting on my chest and you can't look around you..or close your eyes..they say you can get disoriented..that scared me so I was afraid to move my head or blink and I still was sick and dizzy all day long..I will never ever ride it again..

:flower3:

I can't believe how many people have gotten sick on this ride!

All the girls in my family were sick but all the guys were fine. My Dad did feel a lot of pressure in his chest but he enjoyed the ride. I am a HUGE space buff so there was nothing about the ride I didn't like.

Well I felt sick, but I didn't ralph. I think I liked it, but I'm not sure. I'll let you know after the third time I ride it...

I was Kinda feeling funky right after I went on the ride but after I sat down i got my second wind. Then after walkin to my car when the parks closed I felt really sick :crazy2: like i did after I got off my mom says it was the mexican food but i swear it was the ride...never again...The next Day I was fine though
