Mission: Space...did it make you sick?!

How bad is the feeling of being closed in during the ride?
I still can't decide if i'm going to give it a go this trip or not.

YUP-we were very sick-headaches, nausea, the works...and it lasted for me the rest of the afternoon and DH was still feeling ill that night. We followed all the instructions but we will never do MS again.

I ridden the ride about 6 times now. The only time I really had trouble was the first time. When I got off, I felt "off" for about 2 hours afterward. Looking back though, after reading all the accounts of people having trouble here and all the warning on the ride, even before the ride had started, my stomach was tied up in knots. My worrying about getting sick made me at least a little bit queasy. Once I realized that I tried it again a couple of days later. I didn't have near the problem. At this point, It's not my favorite ride, I don't do simulators well. But, I can handle MS better than Back to the Future or Star Tours. I will probably ride it once on most trips but not something I will go out of the way and wait a long time to ride.

We (me, DH, and DD7) rode it in October. How we did:

Me- fine . I have never ridden anything that has made me feel bad- I must have a cast-iron stomach and great equalibrium.

DD7- fine . She screamed when we "blasted-off", but was great afterwards. As soon as the ride was over, she wanted to get right back on- and this from a girl who won't ride Goofy's Barnstormer, let alons BTMRR or Space Mtn!!

DH- not so good . He doesn't do well on spinning rides- won't even do Dumbo. He did really want to try M:S, though. After the ride, he had to sit on a bench with his head between his knees for about 1/2 an hour- he was dizzy and a little nauseated.

Last June my step-dad, step-sister, a friend, and I took out first trip to EPCOT (only because we got free 4-day hopper passes...otherwise we wouldn't have gone!) and my step-sister has a notoriously weak stomach...however I assured her that the ride would be OK ...WAS I WRONG. She did the stupid thing and closed her eyes to make her feel better but everyone should know that that makes it more intense! Anyway, afterwards she was in the bathroom for about a half hour puking her insides out ...though I had to laugh because I knew she couldn't handle it...

So I'm curious, have any of you or anyone you've traveled with had a bad reaction to this ride? I loved it by the way...rode it 2x in a row!

I went on MS last year for the first time. I got sick just like your step-sister did. I went to the first aid station to rest for an hour, the nurse there was very nice. After that I went back to the resort to sleep for the rest of the day. My DH and DD(17) went on too DH was fine DD felt a little funny but ok.
I will never ride that ride again.

I didn't ride MS because I know I can't handle the rides that go in circles.....I won't even ride tea cups but I could ride tower of terrror or rockin'roller coaster all day!! Anyways dh, dd13 and dd6 rode it and my dh got off and had to go throw up!!

However my daughters rode it about another 5 times during our stay!! They absolutely loved it!

I choose to not ride it. I get sick on Dumbo, the Aladdin ride and Triceratop Spin. I won’t do the teacups and I did the Astro Orbitor and Primeval Whirl one time each and thought I would puke both times. My dd21 rode it last time we were there and she was fine. I didn’t want her to ride because she has a heart condition where her blood pressure drops suddenly and she passes out – she’s not supposed to get stressed or do anything that makes the blood pressure rise (because then it drops too quickly back down). Other than feeling claustrophobic she said she was fine. We will be going again in December and I asked her if she was planning on riding – her answer was no; so maybe she wasn’t completely honest last time. My dh doesn’t do any thrill rides and my ds4 and dd2 are too short.

Mission: Space has rules???

I guess they must have, but I can't recall them now. My DD12 wasn't interested in riding it, but my DD16 and I had a blast.

We ride MS once per trip. My DS would love to ride it over and over again and again, but my DH and I always feel a bit queasy afterwards. Feeling usually lasts about 10 minutes. I'll give 10 min. for my son. I did notice this last time (Dec) there was cool air blowing on your face. Has that always been there? I didn't remember it from the time before. I cannot ride the Teacups because of the spinning (major sick); I guess that since MS is not openly spinning where you can see it that it doesn't bother me quite as bad. When I start feeling woozy, I just take deep breaths and blow them out very slowly and tell myself that the ride is just about over!!!

DH (who has motion sickness) and DS (12) both loved it and it didn't affect them. I got off of it and just didn't feel quite right, hard to explain, but I was just off for about an hour or so. I'm very glad I tried it, but once was enough for me...

Did anyone ever see the episode of Mythbusters. I love that show... wonder if a big dose of ginger early in the day would help!

My DH, who HATES crazy rides. He wanted to go on MS but was really unsure. I convinced him to try it one time, if he didn't like it, he wouldn't ever have to go on it again. At least he would know for sure (took him 2 yrs of wondering about Test Track as that ride sounds horrid from outside! ). Well we got in line to do it. I have to say, he almost bolted out of the thing!! We rode it and to my total astonishment, he LOVED it!! We rode it 3 times! Funny enough know, my DS (15) who loves wild rides...and who teased his father during his 'nervous' period...came off the thing not feeling very well!! Not upset to his stomach but had a major headache!

I was nervous after everything I heard...plus my DW has a heart murmur. We ended up riding it 5 times and loved it...never got sick or dizzy. Just don't ever look to the sides or close your eyes (though we both looked sideways without anything happening).

i really WANT to try this ride but i am worried that i will be sick everywhere as i can get motion sickness - is it worse than he back to the future ride at universal?

let made me feel a bit sick.

i wonder if travel sickness tablets would work?

I feel nauseous each time after getting off MS but not for long. I go on once per trip. This ride is so awesome that I figure I can put up with a few minutes of feeling bad afterwards. DH and DD are never bothered by it and go on time and time again.....lucky them!

So I'm guessing that you and BYC are perfect people who have never done anything even the slightest mean. Yes, practical jokes can sometimes seem cruel but the OP didn't ask for your moral guidance, she asked if anybody else got sick in Mission Space, so leave her alone.

Oh sure, it's quite delightful to prank someone into getting so sick that they throw up for a half hour. What a lovely young lady.

And hey, if she didn't want the comments, she shouldn't have put it out there for the whole world to read.

Count me among the "perfect people" who never does anything mean like that intentionally.

Mouseketeer, we have a similar sense of humor. When I was about 13, me and my younger sister convinced our grandma to go on a ride just like Kali (at Cedar Point), we told her she would not get too wet well she got soaked and me and sis had a good laugh. Grandme laughed too and still jokes about how we fooled her all those years ago.
As far as MS goes, there will be one less family in line during the kast week of June. I can go on any coaster with my hands in the air, but spinny rides

Grandma getting splashed, and Grandma in the bathroom puking her guts out are really very different types of jokes!

my oldest loved mission space.......i was alright as long as i looked straight ahead like they tell u too.......for a brief second i looked off to the side and that made me very dizzy.......but overall it was pretty awesome!
