Although I too would love to have seen Horizons or WoM stay, lets all face the facts...in the last years of their operation, the lines were never there. I worked in that area when it was the "HOME Team" (HOrizons, Motion, Energy) and when you were the greeter at Horizons, you couldnt beg people to come up and ride. When you have a huge ride like that...and only the huge fans and annual passholders want to ride it, you have a problem. I will always miss Horizons, but that should not be the focus of my feelings for Mission: SPACE. It seems to me, that most people who are quick to complain about M:S are really just letting out their anger of losing Horizons. Nothing is going to bring back Horizons, we have to accept that. No amount of complaining, emailing, or yelling at people in plaid is going to bring it back. Face the facts. Keep it in your mind as a great Disney memory of the past. Now, I have been on Mission: SPACE many many times now. I think it is one of the best things to have come down the pike in any number of years. All this complaining about having to keep your head back..PLEASE! It is a new type of attraction that needs a new type of warning. When roller coasters first came along, there were no seat belts or lap bars...and I imagine that for a time there were people who complained that they didnt need somebody to put a bar to make them sit down, they would do what they wanted to and it was their right to. Lets all just look at the fact that this is a great new ride, a new experience that you cant find anywhere else in the world...that is what Disney was famous for before the recent years, and now its back. There is a great story that not only is a salute to a Disney attraction of the past, but uses great story telling to take you on a trip to Mars using REAL science (sounds like Epcot to me). Has anyone really paid attention to how real the experience is? That all of the gauges are things you would really find in a space craft? That you can play with them all? Hmm. And we are fauting Disney for creating a ride that you have to interact with? Interesting.
Lets all remember that if we want to keep Epcot open, we need things like Mission: SPACE. The demographics for that attraction do indeed spend money as any study will tell you that there is alot more disposable income in those age groups. And me, I am in my 30s and I dont want to show you how much my friends and I spend at WDW. A blanket statement that this attraction does not bring in guests who spend money angers me. Disney is for everyone. There are attractions that I dont like...I dont complain, I do the things I like. Thats whats great about Disney. I am happy for any new attraction.
Mission: SPACE is a great addition to Epcot, and anyone who has been in the park in the last few years knows that the park needs something to draw in more guests. I havent been sick yet, and I have done it at one time 3 times in a row with virtually no wait in between. So, can we all just be glad that there is something new to draw more people to a place that we already love? If Mission: SPACE can bring more people...then that is more people who will also learn the wonderful things about the whole park.
I will see you there! You will know it is me with my French Pain au Chocolat in one hand and a cup of Beverly in the other.
