Mission Space big mistake!

Can't wait to ride MS next time we're in the world. Everyone is different. I absolutely love Star Tours and can ride it over and over but Body Wars makes me sick, even though they are essentially the same ride!

This ride was awesome. My 6 year old went on it. None of us got sick nor did we see anyone sick. Get on the ride or you won't know what you missing.

Although I too would love to have seen Horizons or WoM stay, lets all face the facts...in the last years of their operation, the lines were never there. I worked in that area when it was the "HOME Team" (HOrizons, Motion, Energy) and when you were the greeter at Horizons, you couldnt beg people to come up and ride. When you have a huge ride like that...and only the huge fans and annual passholders want to ride it, you have a problem. I will always miss Horizons, but that should not be the focus of my feelings for Mission: SPACE. It seems to me, that most people who are quick to complain about M:S are really just letting out their anger of losing Horizons. Nothing is going to bring back Horizons, we have to accept that. No amount of complaining, emailing, or yelling at people in plaid is going to bring it back. Face the facts. Keep it in your mind as a great Disney memory of the past. Now, I have been on Mission: SPACE many many times now. I think it is one of the best things to have come down the pike in any number of years. All this complaining about having to keep your head back..PLEASE! It is a new type of attraction that needs a new type of warning. When roller coasters first came along, there were no seat belts or lap bars...and I imagine that for a time there were people who complained that they didnt need somebody to put a bar to make them sit down, they would do what they wanted to and it was their right to. Lets all just look at the fact that this is a great new ride, a new experience that you cant find anywhere else in the world...that is what Disney was famous for before the recent years, and now its back. There is a great story that not only is a salute to a Disney attraction of the past, but uses great story telling to take you on a trip to Mars using REAL science (sounds like Epcot to me). Has anyone really paid attention to how real the experience is? That all of the gauges are things you would really find in a space craft? That you can play with them all? Hmm. And we are fauting Disney for creating a ride that you have to interact with? Interesting.

Lets all remember that if we want to keep Epcot open, we need things like Mission: SPACE. The demographics for that attraction do indeed spend money as any study will tell you that there is alot more disposable income in those age groups. And me, I am in my 30s and I dont want to show you how much my friends and I spend at WDW. A blanket statement that this attraction does not bring in guests who spend money angers me. Disney is for everyone. There are attractions that I dont like...I dont complain, I do the things I like. Thats whats great about Disney. I am happy for any new attraction.

Mission: SPACE is a great addition to Epcot, and anyone who has been in the park in the last few years knows that the park needs something to draw in more guests. I havent been sick yet, and I have done it at one time 3 times in a row with virtually no wait in between. So, can we all just be glad that there is something new to draw more people to a place that we already love? If Mission: SPACE can bring more people...then that is more people who will also learn the wonderful things about the whole park.

I will see you there! You will know it is me with my French Pain au Chocolat in one hand and a cup of Beverly in the other. :p

You want us to take you seriously when you drink stuff like that? ;)

Seriously, I think that most of us realize that Horizons needed to be refurbished. At least I did. I thought that World of Motion was fine but that's another discussion. As far as Horizons goes, I expected a refurbishment not a bulldozer. I'm sincerely glad that Mission Space is new and exciting but Epcot does seem to be turning to thrill rides and that will eventually limit the number of people who will enjoy Epcot. I like thrill rides myself but I know that there are many who don't. But thanks for the perspective and like you said it's done now so I'll hope for the best. :)

I think otherwise. More thrill rides is what will increase the number of people who go to EPCOT. EPCOT needs rides like MS.

I think that with the proper balance, Epcot can be all things to all people. I just don't understand how people can come up with the idea that Epcot is going all thrill rides when in actualily, what are there...2!!!!! MGM also has 2!!! I don't hear any complaints about that.

WDW has to worry about attracting and keeping certain audiences, as the competition with parks like Universal and IOA heat up. WDW doesnt' want to be 2nd to these parks, and shouldn't be, but unfortunately, just because WDW can outdo these parks in guest service, cleanliness, and family oriented entertainment, doesn't mean that they shouldn't expand their horizons (so to speak).

Let's have an open mind, and see what wonderful, innovative attractions Disney can come up with, instead of criticizing before we truly know what is happening. I think with a good mix of traditional Disney and new and innovative ideas, such as Mission:Space, Disney can continue to be the park we know and love, but on the cutting edge to attract and keep all audiences.

I experienced some sort space simulator at my nephew's Space Camp a few years ago and I was nauseous and dizzy the whole day, but that won't keep me from riding Mission Space next week............at least once!;)

Has Eisner wronged you in a previous life? I respect the fact, as I am sure everyone does, that you may not have enjoyed riding Mission: Space. And, I'll even go as far as agreeing with you that the current status of the Walt Disney Co. is straying a bit from Walt's original vision. However, I can personally vouch for the fact that the company has NEVER lost sight of the ideals it was founded upon. It remains a place where children and parents can have fun TOGETHER. There are things everyone would change if they could, but the reality is none of us on this board are in charge of the company and Disney seems to be satisfying the needs of those it services far more than not.

Many of us who have ridden Mission: Space thought the ride was great! I even get dizzy on Space Mountain, but I still ride. Off the note a bit--I do miss Horizons, but the building was deemed unsafe and had to be closed down or overhauled. Epcot needs a little oomph now--afterall, it is the park of discovery and the future.

Not all rides are suited for all riders. If I am not mistaken, there should be a sign warning those who suffer from motion sickness, etc. to "ride at their own risk." In any case, I do hope that you address concerns to those at the parks next time you visit. Guest Relations is always willing to her what a Guest has to say.:p

I continue to read about this attraction like it is something totally new and different. I was thinking that it was just a completely new reinvention of the wheel (pun intended).

Okay - I'm picturing in my head the old "Round Up" of state fair fame - y'all know the ride - you stand with your back and head against the wall - everyone on the inside of a big cylinder, and then they spin it, and either the whole thing lifts up, or the floor drops, as everyone is pressed to the wall behind them. At the Kings Dominion near Richmond, they used to call this ride the Time Shaft.

Isn't Mission Space a souped up version of this same ride - the only difference being that there is a wall between every fourth person and an inner wall with a monitor for each person, etc? I haven't been there or ridden it, only seen pictures of the 'seats' or 'stands'. Is it something totally different? My apologies if the actual ride design details have been posted elsewhere. But if not, and if what I'm thinking is true, then really, it's just an amazingly creative version of the 'Round Up', like Space Mountain is an amazingly creative version of the 'Wild Mouse'.

Illuminate me.

This is posted in clear view. Some people should probably heed the warnings but ignore them. I feel sorry for the people that do get sick but the numbers are getting way blown out of proportion.
Have rode MS a total of now 14times and have not seen dozens and dozens of folks with looks of horror walking off but most of smiles and great comments. Time will tell if the ride has legs. My guess is it will. It is not for everyone. What attraction is?

So Disney is getting sued already before the ride even officially opens How long before the first motion sickness lawsuit?
ETC sues Disney

I'm just a little curious.., how were you able to ride MS 14 times? I was under the impression that at this point, and up till the 15th of August, it's sort of hit and miss as to when a person can ride. Did you just get back from a long stay at WDW and did you hang out in Epcot for days to catch that many rides??

LOL. Do you think people at Disney World actually read signs? That is the reason Alien Encounter is going to close and why Disney had to tone down Countdown to Extention into Dinosaur. The average guest not only does not read the signs, they have NO idea what they are getting in line for. It doesn't matter where the sign is posted and it doesn't matter how many times a CM can warn somebody there will always be those idiots that will complain because they didn't know what was going to happen.

You made great points people should be able to see the signs on M:S and they should be able to decide if its right for them. I personally couldn't imagine regular guest (no prior motion sickness) even feeling the least bit sick after this ride. It is actually quite tame.

By the way I wasnt laughing at you or your post. I was just laughing on how the average guest reacts to rides. Just didn't want you to take it the wrong way :D

degenerationxwwfwdw1: :) Thanks I understood.LOL
mitros:Yes we had a long stay onsite, PAPs and lots of free time on our hands. We got a tip back at the beginning of June that it would be having spotty previews and first rode it the second week of June.Towards the last few weeks,it was open pretty regularly Monday through Friday in the late afternoon to evenings. Sometimes it was walk on. The longest wait was app. 55min even though the sign read 75min. Avg was app 20mins.

wish Mission Space was in MK or MGM...loved Epcot the way it was...no big E ticket rides....loved it's ambience....felt this park geared itself to adults & not thrill seekers.........

oh well, my kids are mega excited about going in November. for me, I will go to Inoventions while kids & hubby are on ride.

but once again. to each his own...

Personally feel Disney need a bigger draw to this park & a E ticket ride was the way to go

No. :)

There are a few significant differences between the rides. Mission: Space's centrifuges are each comprised of 10 "pods." Each pod has two axes of freedom, similar to what a motion simulator like those used in Star Tours might have, but a bit more limited. Additionally, they're attached to the centrifuge and spin.

While on a Round-Up style ride, the riders face the center, the riders of Mission Space *start* the ride facing tangentially around the circle. Imagine a line of people forming a circle with everyone looking at the back of the person in front of them.

Of course, during the ride, the position of the ride capsule changes and that is what Imagineering uses to its advantage and allows for the myriad of forces exerted upon riders.

It's a combination of many unique ride technologies in a way that nobody's dreamed of before, I think.

I understand that Disney needs to keep up with places like Universal. However, not being a roller coaster or that type of thrill ride person, I am disappointed they're not doing more attractions for adults that aren't "thrill rides."

Even though some don't think it has a place in WDW, as has been said by some about Mission Space already, but I love Alien Encounter. It has great theming, aspects of a classic "dark ride," and is for adults (at least, I wouldn't take my 2-year-old in there!).

There needs to be a balance: do the coasters, but also do some of the things -- with modern technology -- that made Disney famous. If they're out of ideas, I've got a few -- just look me up.

That is the reason Alien Encounter is going to close

Alien Encounter isn't closing, is it? I thought they were just going to put Stitch into it. I too vote to save it; one of the best attractions at the park.

Yes Alien Encounter is closing to make way for the new Stitch show. Well changing Alien Encounter into a kiddie Stitch show is the same as closing it to me anyways.
