Hi,
We will be traveling to WDW in October. I have been reading the threads describing Mission Space. It states that each passenger is assigned a specific role.
My question is: What does each role require of the participate? Can a legaly blind/low vision individual ride this attraction and peform the "required" role?
Thanks.

I haven't been on Mission Space (I get sick just going on the teacups, so there is no way I am getting on what amounts to a big centrifuge), so I can't give you a for sure answer.
Anyway, from what I have read and from what other members of my family who have gone on said, I think you would still be able to perform the role, even if legally blind. Hopefully someone else can give more details, but from what I know, your role involves pushing a button at a specified time. As long as you know where the button is and when to push it, you can do it. I believe that the cue for pushing the button involves both sound and lights. If one member is not able to perform their specified task, the ride still continues, so I think the task is more to make the riders feel involved than actually being vital to the experience.
If you don't get an answer here, you could ask the CMs at the ride entrance or the fastpass machine. There is usually one outside before you get in line.

Pushing the bottons (2 on oposite sides of the screen) and using the stick (in the middle right in front of the rider) make the ride a bit more interesting but you don't have to do either. As far as the buttons go the trainer tells you when to push but you have to push the one that is flashing. The stick come into play when you have to manualy land the vehicle. You are supposed to interpret the information on the screen and us the stick to steer, if I remember right there are some verbal intructions like "pull back." DW's arthritis kept her from being able to do either.

Having said that this is what I would be concerned about. The disclaimers for the ride tell you that closing your eyes or not focusing on the screen will make you disoriented. My experience was looking over to check on DW in the middle of the ride and almost vomiting. I returned my eyes to my screen and made it thru. Over the years I have prided myself on being able to ride anything anywhere with no problems. Mission Space was my limit. I am glad I had the experience but will most likely not do it again. DW says if she ever sees Gary Sinice she is going to punch him.

I would be interested in hearing visualy impaired folks experience with this attraction.

I was SO determined to keep looking straight ahead that there was NO way that I was going to look at any buttons. Also there were only two people in my module so two spots were empty anyhow. It doesn't really affect anything.
