While we were in Atlanta for Spring Break, gmother pulls out an ad for Disney Vacations. She proceeded to tell me to call the 1-800 # to order DVDs for both of us, which I did. I didn't really think anything of it. I figured once she found out how much it REALLY costs to go to WDW, there'd be no way we'd ever set a toe in the MK. We got home. A few weeks later, the DVDs come. She called me after she watched hers to discuss how expensive it really is.. she was flabbergasted! Yea, it's changed alot since the 80s, Mom!

But I was cool with it. I figured we had missed the boat when we couldn't go in April (free lodgings and all). Soon after that, my mother was diagnosed with seizures and had to stop working. So, once again, we packed everything up to move in with a family member in need. Luckily, she lives in the same neighborhood, and we were only renting. So once I put my foot down about no smoking in the house, and she agreed, off we went to our shiny new.. um... bedroom. Ugh. Between moving, cakes, and being PTO President at the boys' school, I pretty much forgot about WDW.....

Betty: Hey, babe. Whatchya doin'?

Mickie: Not much, how's Daddy Red (my gfather) doing?

Betty: He's fine. Listen, you know how we ordered those DVDs?

Mickie: Huh? Oh! The Disney ones? Yeah.

Betty: Well, I decided to send you guys to Disney, to Thank You for all you've done for me & Dad. You have $5,000. Start looking, and call me next week so I can pay it on with my credit card. I gotta go, nurse is here. <click>

Mickie: ....

Mickie: ....

I think at this point I dropped the phone. I know I started crying. I'm a little teary eyed now, just thinking about it.

wow, that is awesome of your grandmother!!! She's now also your fairy godmother! Fantastic! You sure do deserve it after taking care of her and your grandfather and then taking care of your mother as well. You have put everyone else ahead of you and now it's your turn! Have a wonderful trip and enjoy every second of it, take lots of photos and have lots of memories! I'm really happy for you!

Hi Judy! Thanks for the hug! I'm not all packed yet, but I'm working on it! BTW... I LOVE the flying underwear!!

I imagine my friends on the DIS will end up knowing alot more about our trip than my fairy grandmother!!

I can hear it now (she is so gruff, ya'll!)

"Did the boys have fun?"

"We had a BLAST, Mom!"

"Did you eat a steak?"

"Oh!! I ate like, 3, and they were soooo good!!!! And you'll never guess.."

"Ok, good. Now, when is Spring Break? Because the gutters need cleaning and I'm renting a power washer for...."



The funniest part is, that I can promise you, our conversation will be EXACTLY like that! She is so hilariously rude, that you just have to laugh about it. She's like the crazy aunt that everybody says is just "eccentric."

Most of the time people don't know how to take her, and get either

1. Very, very angry,
2. Very, very confused, or
3. Very, very scared



But once you learn that she just doesn't CARE what she says, doesn't mean anything by it, and pretty much hates everything she's ever done, eaten, seen, smelled, touched, and talked to in her life, she's got a heart of gold!

OMG, I'm not talking bad about her ya'll, but it's just so FUNNY! My DH is STILL intimidated by that little 75 year old woman!

As for me, I just nod and smile. Nod and smile... and try REALLY hard not to laugh (while she's watching)

Yes it is exciting! Of course me being obsessed with working out the itinerary and second guessing ADRs is making the family crazy. LOL I can not wait. I bet being down to 11 days from going to WDW is unbelieveable at 109 days out you think it will never get here.

Have a great trip, the first time is always the best. I am so sorry people have felt like they need to lecture you on your spending for this trip. It was none of their business.

We just bought DVC and I second guess that decision daily as our bill mount at the beginning of the year. I comfort myself with that we will have 50 years of Disney vacations.

I am so glad your hubby is going back to work, and a paid vacation to boot!!

Your cakes are amazing and I would be calling you for my birthday cake if we lived closer. I just ordered a mickey ears cake for my birthday.

I can't wait to read your post trip report. We will be at AKV in May, so I want lots of details about the resort and activities there.

Have you thought about pin trading while you are there. My diskids are OCD over trading.

I guess I am a bit late, lol, just found your report. Your posts are hillarious. I havent laughed this much in awhile. Sorry to hear you were blasted on another board, it amazes me how some people can be. The way I see it, until you walk a mile in their shoes.... I was also raised by my grandparents and I cared for both of them until they passed away. My family and I know the sacrifices it takes to care for loved ones. I hope you have an amazing trip. Your family deserves it! Enjoy every minute of it. I wll be waiting for a full report when you return and my dd would love some pics of your savannah view! She is a tad bit jealous, lol.

Also, I sent you a PM earlier asking about the coral reef divers, not sure after all the issues you have had if you are reading pms so I will ask here, how do you request a diver? I tried to through the wdwdine number and they told me divers and menus werent available which I know isnt correct, do you have the contact info for coral reef? Thanks!

Hey Mickey, I haven't posted in a while but I have been keeping up.

Sorry bout the way some fools have been treating you. Kill em with kindness. and what goes around comes around. I have been fortunate enough to see the come around thing get back to the Ex. The best part is that I was the one to, very kindly, point it out to her. Quick story. She was giving DW (girlfriend at the time) & I problems about visitation with my kids while my girlfriend was with me about 15 years ago. A few years ago she was complaining to us about her boyfriends Ex not allowing their kids to visit while she was with him. Her words to me were "can you believe she is doing something like that?" Of course my response to this was a very kind and calm, "well you did that too". After what seemed like a couple of minutes of silence she changed the subject and got off the phone. The next time she saw my wife she gave her a hug (yes, my wife & ex-wife were hugging) and said "I am SO sorry." ,, I guess what I am saying is have a great vacation and let God take care of the rest.

BTW, we are leaving in 18 hours and are going to DTD, so tell the boys to keep a close eye on the mailbox.

Hey you guys! I'm sorry I haven't been on! DH is having some major foot problems. It look like he may be riding on an ECV during our trip!!

Nothing life threatening, but he is going to have minor surgery on it next week, and for now I have to kinda help him around, and take care of him. Poor guy!

I'll get on later to tell the whole story, but riught now, we have a dr. appt.
