What a fun secret to keep! And impressive that you've been able to do all that planning behind their backs- sneaky sneaky!
YES!!! I can vouch for this... I made the mistake of telling my DS that we'd be watching fireworks later on July 4th, and that he really must take a nap or we wouldn't see the fireworks. He tried, oh boy did he try, but he was too excited by the expectation to sleep. It all backfired and he was exhausted by the time the fireworks started.monymony3471 said:I thought about telling them the night before so they could experience some of the fun and excitement that comes with anticipation, but right now I think a good nights sleep is so important to start the trip off right.
monymony3471 said:I thought about sharing my secret here, but I think it will be more enjoyable to tell you after they experienced it. Surprise!!I want to walk you through each step as it happens. Its kinda involved. At least the plan is. I hope then I can truly capture all the fun involved with finding out. Can you image finding out that in just a few short hours you are going to the Happiest Place on Earth? So, if you are still with me and thank you if you are, I will tell you all about it when we return from our trip. And I plan on a full trip report as well.
In case we don't hear from you before you go, have a marvelous, fantastic, incredible trip!monymony3471 said:We leave in 16 days. Can you hang on that long? Hope you will still be with me when we get back. If anything exciting comes up before we leave, Ill let you know about it.
See you real soon!
monymony3471 said:I told you in the beginning that I had to keep the secret for 135 days. Well, it was actually longer, more like 152 days to be exact. Once I figured everything out and made our reservations, and changed them a few times we came down to the 135 day mark and thats when Tim and I had our conversation.
I actually knew it was coming. We had this conversation last year. It was June of 2005 that I blurted out the secret to the kids at dinner. We are going to WDW in 2 weeks!!!!!
I imagined my two boys jumping from the table, giving their mom hugs and high fives. Running up to each other and doing belly slams. Shouts of praises coming our way and wooo hoos and yeee haws! Watching them play air guitar and head banging. Me hearing thee phase I only hear when I am tickling them. When they had enough and they need me to stop they say, Thanks mom, youre the best mom, youre the Queen of All Queens! Yep, this is thee official phrase to say when you had enough. It's also thee phrase when mom comes through and gives you want you want! But I have to ask them then to say it. Reminds me of Deal or No Deal or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? And you give your Final Answer or take the Deal.
Side Note: After writing this I realized we hadnt had a tickle session in a while and at bed time this was fresh in my head. The sad thing is, as they grow up these special moments dont happen as often and they actually forget thee phrase. So, tonight I challenged them with tickles so I could hear thee phrase and Matt couldnt remember it and said, You smell pretty. I lost it. Now the official phrase is: Thanks mom, youre the best mom, youre the Queen of all Queens, and you smell pretty!
Side note to side note: Once DH was tickling them, a long time ago, and Matt who had to have been about 3 or 4, told his dad he was the King of all Queens. It was pretty funny. That got some chuckles. End both side notes.
So, Im sitting at the table looking at my two boys and you know what? You could have heard crickets. There was no celebrating, no moon walk across the floor, no secret handshakes, or blessings for mom. No one choked on their milk and spit it out. Huh?
Tim asked, Did you hear your mother? She said were going to WDW. Cool they said and kept eating. (Already spoiled.)

Back to the talk:
We tell them when? I asked him.
Were not. He informs me.
Huh? Why?
Because this time, its going to be a surprise.
That feeling hit me real hard inside. Oh, man I have to keep this a secret for 135 days?!!
Yep. You do. He said.
How are we going to tell them?
Thats been the million dollar question here ever since. Since Im doing the planning, Im planning that as well. Hes had suggestions and I just keep letting them roll off my back. Im doing this my way.
Tim travels, a lot. He just returned from Dallas. 2 weeks ago he went to St. Louis. Houston before that. So many times I could have said, hey kids guess what were going to WDW and you cant tell your Dad, its a surprise. This is how we are going to keep this secret from him. But, I couldnt do it.
I know Zach would have told him. Hes at that stage where he cant tell a lie. In fact he tattles on his brother constantly. He would have tattled on Mommy too.
Matt? Lies threw his teeth.Thinks Mom and Dad are pushovers. I have to ask him questions repeatedly and from all different angels, quickly, to get the information out of him. Hes quick, but Im quicker. I was once a kid too ya know.
Plus I dont want them to lie. And thats a big part of this surprise. I dont want to lie to them. I have to say things that are factual. I dont think not telling them is lying to them. I am going to tell them, just the morning that we are leaving. I thought about telling them the night before so they could experience some of the fun and excitement that comes with anticipation, but right now I think a good nights sleep is so important to start the trip off right.
So, why should I keep this a secret? Because this is going to be huge for them!![]()
Ive been building this up. They think we are still going in 2007. Thats possible. Weve been watching specials on the Parks that I taped. Weve been playing Disney board games. We watch Disney movies. We look back in old scrapbooks. We talk about our other trips all the time. We are using the saving for Disney jar. They have Disney in their little veins. My daughter believes she is a princess.
If you call her anything else, like Stitch, she gets very upset. Remember that castle is hers. Shes gonna dance there. With a prince! She is. And she tells me she is. And I believe her. They have no clue whats in store for them. Sometimes I wish they did. Maybe theyd behave a little more and treat mommy nicer, but then again, they wouldnt.

AWESOME pre-trippie!! I am HORRID at keeping surprises...this past trip I did keep one BIG surprise from dh (no, it was not that we were going It was that I had a diver go into the tank at the Coral Reef and hold up a sign saying Happy Anniversary and had personalized menus done (pictures and all) there too! They also added Happy Birthday to my son on the back! It was a GREAT surprise and dh was awestruck...
Back to your report...I cannot imagine the level of surprise and excited energy that will burst forth from your kids when they finally do find out where they are going! Aren't you glad for the DIS? You can share it all with us so you have an outlet before you explode!
THANKS FOR SHARING SUCH A HAPPY "PRE-MEMORY" with all of us!
One day you and your dh will look back on this with pride "remember when we surprised the kids with a trip to WDW? "
I cannot wait for your trip report!!
In case we don't hear from you before you go, have a marvelous, fantastic, incredible trip!
monymony3471 said:Jaycns: What a fantastic idea for a surprise. I hope while reading your trip report I'll get to see a picture of that! That's just too cool.
The dis has helped me immensly with keeping the surprise/secret as long as I have. Absolutely!
Thanks for reading and stopping by. I am enjoying your trip report as well. Your youngest son is such the poser. He's a little ham. You have a beautiful family. 3 weeks with Disney. That just amazes me.
PrincessV:
Thanks! You too! We will leave some magic for you there. We won't use it all up!![]()

Really enjoying your pre-trippie. You are a great secret-keeper. I could never do it! And I guess you really are going to keep your plan a secret from us too...Well, that's just wrong. I really can't take all this suspense and excitement at my age. Those kids are going to burst when they find out and I'm going to have an anxiety induced cardiac episode just waitin' for your story. Do you really want all that on your conscience? Ya better fess up, spill the beans, give it up girl - for all our sakes!
Have a great trip and save some magic for me too, okay?

monymony3471 said:I know I read it. We have a few chances of meeting up. I mean it. I'm looking for you with your camera stuck to your face and your husband chasing down cm's to pin trade with. I'm thinking my boys might want to get involved with this this year. I'm thinking of getting them a starter set. I can get them one at the parks right? A set, with the lanyard?
