Missing Thai soccer boys and coach are found alive in cave, EVERYONE is out of the cave!

I am following on another forum where they think the rescue has began, via 2 scuba guides per kid. They are watching a live feed and they said plastic tarps were put up to block the view. Some vehicle riding a top the caves, looking for a chimney opening, fell off a cliff and they were all rushed to hospital but are said to be okay. This story is horrifying. I pray these boys and all rescuers will stay well. They already lost one rescue scuba diver the other day.

CNN is reporting that the rescue operation may be starting soon. The water level has dropped and they are setting up oxygen stations. It’s raining now :(.

Sending all my positive thoughts their way.

I saw a news snippet of this when I was on vacation (and trying to avoid news for awhile) actually thought it wasn't real at first. This is just horrifying. Since I missed so much early stuff - how did they manage to stay alive before they were found? Did they have food with them?

I haven't seen any coverage about how much food they had with them, but the coach gave his food to the boys, which is why he has been so weak.

Did they have food with them
I wouldn't think they had much if any. I understand they were going into the cave to touch a wall for good luck I don't think they were planning on an all day or overnight hike Maybe some protein bars at most?

I wish that the government would focus on getting everyone out instead of assigning blame.

I suppose, on the one hand, the government is being optimistic that they will get the coach out alive, to be able to assign charges any against him. On the other hand, if one of the boys die on the way out, the boys were in his care.

Placing a tarp up to block the view doesn't bode well. They may be doing that to block the view in case they end up pulling out dead bodies. :( Those boys deserve dignity, not having their dead corpses being pulled out, splashed all over international TV, if the worst happens. :(

The rescue team will probably try to take the youngest & weakest out first. If they have to stop the rescue for any reason, hopefully the weakest will have been brought out. However, if there is a flaw in their plan, it would show up in the first couple of attempts through, and that may mean the youngest & weakest would be the ones that die. :sad1: :headache:

I was thinking protein bars too. One of the kids missed his own birthday party, which was supposed to happen after practice. That mom was the first to report her son missing as she KNEW her son wouldn't miss that.

Yeah, I don't think they had much, if anything, for nine days. They might've drank the water in the cave, idk. That's why they were so weak and malnourished when they found them and they're working on re-establishing their health and strength with food and protein drinks now.

A few interesting tidbits - coach has apologized to parents (via letter). Coach was only surviving member of his family when an illness wiped them out in 2007. I think people will be sympathetic towards him. As a pp mentioned, despite bringing them in there, he's kept them safe all these days. And I imagine he'll be the last one out. Another teammate who didn't go with them said they went into the cave on other occasions without telling their parents. Apparently it was a 45 minute bike ride away. Boys have been writing to their parents and asking for things like fried chicken and not too much homework. Lol, typical youngsters. But their spirits sound upbeat.

On Reddit, someone linked a video of cave diving (in clear, not murky, water) where the space is so tight that they have to take their tanks off in order to get through. Here's the video. God bless the rescuers and the team. I can't imagine that this will go perfectly. Such a sad situation.

Another story that I think shows the spirit of the community involved in this rescue which, really, is international.

Local farmers say it's ok if their fields flood during the rescue attempt, even if it costs them their livelihood:

I think the story of these boys for many years to come will be a good example to kids (or anyone) who thinks their actions and bad decisions don't impact others. Here we have at least one death already, many local farmers losing their livelihoods, millions of dollars spent and people traveling from around the globe and leaving their families and jobs, and risking their lives, even, in order to help in rescue efforts, etc. It's amazing when you think about it! And looking at examples of the Chilean miners, after all the hoopla died down after their rescue, many of them were negatively impacted in their lives due to the stress of being trapped undeground for so long. I hope, when and if these young men get out, God willing, they get the help they need in addition to becoming mini- celebrities for a while.

CNN just posted a snippet of one letter all the parents collectively wrote the coach and sent it in:

"We, as your soccer team members' parents believe in you and your spirit that you've been taking good care of our kids.

We just want you to know that this is not your fault.

We all here don't blame you and just want you to not blame yourself.

We all understand all the situations that have happened and we are here supporting you."

Aww. That made me tear up a bit. I'm glad for him. Since he lost his own, he considers these boys his family. (I also read that previously, he was a monk. Maybe monks took him in after he lost his family, idk.) If the worst happens, at least he'll have some degree of peace knowing he was forgiven.

That video gave me so much anxiety! Why would anyone want to do that?

Yeah...nope nope nope. Never would I ever go in a cave past where I can see the real world from the opening of the cave. No cave tubing on a cruise for me...ever, never. Also no scuba diving...nope! God, I hate that these boys are in this situation. And cannot imagine how their parents are feeling.
