Missing Easter card with gift cards

I mailed an Easter card to my daughter that is away at college. Included in the card were 2 gift cards for Potbelly and Bdubs. She received her basket that was mailed the next day but the card has yet to show up. What are my options? Are we just out the 50 dollars? I have the receipts for the gift cards but just used regular old postage to mail it.

did you use a credit card to purchase the gift cards?

not sure how it works with gift cards but some credit cards carry theft protection for a period of time following the purchase of the item. we used this for a non gift card item and the process was pretty easy.
I think some retailers also have programs in place for lost/stolen cards so long as you have the receipt along with the i.d. number on the card-I think the ones that do this may charge a fee for replacement.

I think you just need to wait a few days - US Mail is a lot slower than it used to be. My mom sent two cards to my house - one for each kid - and they arrived a week apart from each other. It will get there...

Many retailers do not have protection for lost gift cards (although in most cases they have to replace a card lost in the mail on the way to the original customer).

Believe it or not, gift cards need to be treated like cash.

And gift cards are subject to hacking as well. Even Target, which has been the subject of a big hacking case in the past, continues to give its own gift card holders a hard time when it comes to hacking.

Why not send a check instead of a gift card? More flexibility on what the recipient can buy.

Because if I was truly worried someone was going to steal a gift card I would be terrified to send a check. Why give someone access to your entire bank account?

Op, I'd just wait a week for the mail to catch up.

When I am mailing a card with a gift card in the envelope, I always take it to the desk in the post office. Sometimes the gift card puts it over the weight or width limit. I don't want it to be returned for insufficient postage.

My best friend mailed me a card that was postmarked March 15th - I got it Friday. Envelope mail is often slower that packages.

I mailed a gift card in a birthday card once. It did not make it to its destination. Lesson learned. I no longer send GC in card envelopes, but bigger more padded ones so it is not obvious to postal workers along the way that it is a gift card.

I don't hesitate to send checks through the mail.

I also pay for tracking. Knock on wood-I haven't had a problem since Ive started this.
