I was greatful to have the wonderful people on this site to make some neat door magnets for my family.
BEWARE though of them disappearing while on the cruise. One morning after returning from breakfast, a couple of our magnets were gone from the door. They took a family members name and a welcome home from the DVC. We were disappointed that this would happen.

I was wondering about this before I invested my time and money in doing this. I still would like to do it, but I am concern because I believe our room is right at the elevator.

The areas near the elevator are more visible so we have never had magnets taken. We do personalize them though.

Sounds like you had a daytime incident but I have read it is a good idea to bring your magnets in at night...just thought I would post

I am so sorry this happened...really stinks!!!!! Too bad people are so thoughtless of others feelings! :headache:

THIS IS CRAZY.... why would anybody take magnets from somebody elses door? Oh well... we will just look at it as "sharing the magic with others!"

We were near the forward elevator and had no problems day or night with our magnets, then again, we did personalize them with our names. Our FE was nearly stolen by some kids, but luckily I was in the room and heard them, and yes, we did have a zip tie on it.

Our room was right off the elevator and they were personalized names. We did tell our cabin stewart to keep his eyes open in case he found it but no luck. Probably some kids.

We had personalized magnets from one of the Dis-ers. They kept falling off our door....we sometimes found them on the door across the hall! Nothing malicious, just that they'd fall off when the door was closed and people would misplace them when they were returned. We also had magnets from across the hall placed on our door.

The ones that were fully magnetized stuck fine. The ones with a square of magnet tended to fall off.

I'm really sorry about the kids you encountered!

I had this happen to me. I lost 5 or 6 magnets over night the 2nd night of our cruise. My room was next to the navigator verandah rooms on deck 7 aft, so not visible from the elevator.

The magnets that were taken did not have my stateroom number on the front or any personal name, if that helps. I took my magnets off the door every night and then put them out again the next morning. Didn't lose anymore after that.

We never lost a magnet. Our room was between the forward and mid-ship elevators, so not in a heavy traffic area. We did have our magnets personalized with our names.

Make your magnets and have fun with them. But do not get so obsessed and attached that it will ruin your trip if something happens. I read so many posts were people get so upset, or don't take part in the fun for fear that something will happen. I personally don't want to give that much control to some idiot that swipes a magnet! :confused3

We've found that personalizing with our Stateroom number seems to keep ours from disappearing. Or maybe they've disappeared w/o our knowledge and some nice person brought them back?

I'm sure these children belong to the parents that like to push their little darlings to the front of every line or deck party, let them try to come hang out in the adult only areas because "they don't bother anyone", save seats in the theater and on deck, and turn a blind eye to them pushing every button in every elevator, LOL!! :lmao:

The fun part is, then they get to grow up and be the same kind of parent.

Apparently it is all OK because they "PAID ALOT OF MONEY FOR THIS VACATION!!"

We just got back from your "Wonder"ful cruise on 3/26, and I made a ton of magnets for our door. I almost didn't hang them because people were talking about them being stolen. Some of the nice Disers advised not to let this ruin my fun and to hang my magnets. I did hang them, and none of them disappeared. It was so much fun. Our cabin steward said he heard people talking about our door and were wondering if one of the characters lived there. A man also stopped me on the last night when I was taking them down and he asked where I got them and said he and his wife thought we must live on the ship. I got a chuckle out of that, and it made me feel good.

Don't let anyone discourge you from hanging your mangets. It's lots of fun and you will enjoy them every time you return to your room.

Fortunately, I had read on the DIS before I printed my magnets about adding our stateroom number. Unfortunately, I didn't add my room number to the magnets that were taken because I didn't want to "ruin" the design. Oh well, live and learn. After they were taken, I inked my stateroom number on any magnet that didn't have it, no matter how it looked! ;)

I know what you mean. I didn't want to mar them, but I added the Stateroom # along the borders in most cases - not really in the "body" of the magnet. It seemed to work.

We didn't have any magnets stolen, but my DS and DH found 2 candy bars and a round container of M&M's in our fish extender. They left them because they thought I would want to take a picture. When my DS returned to the stateroom, the candy bars were gone and the container of M&M's was still there, but EMPTY! :scared1: The nerve of some people. I just said I couldn't understand why they would be hungry on a cruise with so much food around, but whatever!:confused3 After that, we checked our FE often and immediately emptied it.

I am more worried about FE then magnets. I can save the design for magnets and make them again if necessary. But taking a gift from others DISers, just not cool.

I doubt very seriously that it's another person from the DIS board or their families. I'm pretty sure it's from among the "unenlightened masses", LOL! :lmao::rotfl2:

We purchased the Birthday celebration for our cabin which came with a Happy Birthday magnet. When we entered our cabin, everything was there except the magnet. Since we got to our cabin about a minute after the announcement was made that the cabins were open, I didn't think someone could steal it that quickly so assumed it was just forgotten.

The bad part was that when we asked about getting another because the magnet was not there, we were made to feel like we were trying to get 2. Our request was met by responses of "we'll have to see if we have an extra" and "I'll have to get permission to get you another one".

Best. Post. Ever.

I could not have said it better myself.
