I think I really messed up here. I've had so much going on in the past 2 months with sick relatives.
We're cruising on Nov 3 (Wonder 4 day) and I called today to get the Travel Guard insurance and was told by the DVC that I missed out on the cancellation penalty period--which was 60 days ! I'm at 45-46 days today. We're cruising on points and cash. I paid cash for my mil. Does anyone know of any other options that might be available to us ? Thanks. I'm feeling really stupid for letting this get past me :(

I just talked to Disney regarding the insurance yesterday because I was debating whether or not to get it. It does protect you if you need to cancel your trip, but Disney will let you change the date of your trip anyway for a $50 fee plus any price increase for the new date you select. So, even without the insurance, you still have some options in case something should happen and you can't go.

Thank you for your reply KellyC. I don't think we'll cancel, I was mostly concerned with medical-type expenses should they occur. I feel uneasy traveling without insurance should someone fall ill. We're traveling with my 68 year old mil, but in reality concerned for us all. I've read our medical insurance won't cover certain expenses. I've been trying for 45 minutes now to do a search of "insurance" or "travel insurance" on these boards and can't get through. Keep getting error messages. I'm hoping there are other travel insurance companies that will insure us at the 45 day mark ?
Thanks again for your help.

Are you talking about medical expenses for those traveling? THAT is an entirely different insurance! The travelguard policy that covers cost of cruise (points) must be bought 60 days out. The insurance (travelguard sells it also) that covers medical expenses is separate and doesn't need to be purchased until 24 hours before sailing!!!! We have the points coverage and are debating/searching for other quotes on the medical since we don't need to purchase that until day before going.

Oh thank you disney6 ! Can u tell this is my first time cruising ? I was looking at the pink sheet that was enclosed with my reservation confirmation from the DVC for Travel Guard, and the way it is listed on that sheet, it appears it's all tied in together. There is no mention of 24 hours before on that sheet ? It just states "premiums for this plan must be paid before the reservation cancellation period begins" at the very bottom.
Yes, I would have liked to insure my points, but the medical was more important to me. I think now, knowing I have up until 24 hours before, that I may look at other prices with other companies also. Thanks again for the info from both Kelly and disney6. What a weight off my shoulders........

Look at insuremytrip.com. that will let you compare policies. One thing to read the fine print very carefully about in your situation is the preexisting conditions clauses. To get coverage for preexisting on those travelling, payment for ins. usually has to be made at the time the reservation is. For coverage for preexisting conditions for family members not travelling with you, it seems to be the date of the final payment. Yes, if youbuy now and break your arm or have an appendicitis, the insurance will cover the medical. But if you have a problem now and it gets worse or requires treatment, it might not be. just read very carefully.

Thanks my3kids. I appreciate your input. I plan on going to that site and checking it out.

My Hubby unfortunately had to use our travel guard insurance on our last cruise. He needed stitches and they paid for everything. For 3.50 a day per person, I wouldn't look anywhere else.
