My husband and I just became DVC members recently 350 at AKV with 220 points from 2011 and all 350 coming in 2012. I called yesterday (Oct 1st) to make my very first DVC reservation. I'd just called earlier in the day to get my membership number since I'd gotten notice of my resale closing the week before and was told to wait a week. I booked for our July vacation and was told that my 2012 points would be used. I asked why the 220 couldn't be used (I was counting on the full 2012 allotment for our Christmas 2012 trip) and the MS rep told me that I missed my banking deadline which was the day before! I explained to her that we just closed recently and hadn't even received our member numbers until earlier in the day and she said she would see what she could do...she put in some kind of request to see if we could bank those points late and said to call back in a week to check on the status. Has this happened to anyone before?? What do you think my chances are of getting to bank those points late??

I am guessing that your UY is Feb, this means you missed your banking deadline which is within the first 8 months of a UY. It would have been easier for you to have the seller bank the points as part of the sell. DVC usually gives you a one time forgiveness on your points, so you should be in luck.

They will probably be able to do it. They banked points late for me when my mom passed away and I cancelled a planned trip.

I saw your other post, this is actually another area where buying direct is a benefit, they will automatically bank points late. You may want to think twice about chewing out the guide, he might have a say in this.

They might do it, but you won't be able to ask for them to do it again if you forget in the future. You usually get one free pass and you are using yours.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. HOwever, they offered to bank them for me "as it wasnt my fault". They also said this will not effect my one time late banking forgiveness (which is an off the record policy btw).

Call back and get it escalated. I will be very surprised it they dont get banked.

It definitely sounds like in this case Disney should allow you to bank them since you did not get your membership number and you were told to wait one week before calling. Since everything should be on record, I would escalate until you get the correct action. Definitely do not let them use up your "one time late banking" credit (unofficial though it may be..)

OP bought resale and the week's delay to get everything posted is pretty standard. If she had called on the 30th with the intention of banking, and was told things were still in process, might have more of a case.

But sounds like she wasn't even aware of the deadline and just happened to call on 10/1. To be painfully blunt, that's one of the (few) downsides of buying resale.

Honestly I wouldn't blame DVC a bit if they held to the published dates. The banking rules are what they are and it's not fair for anyone--DVC included--to selectively ignore those rules.

An exception is an exception is an exception. If DVC actually agrees to bank the points and then wants another exception made years down the road, she isn't really going to have a leg to stand on if they refuse.

Thank you for all your replies!! I called back today and they did bank the points for me! :cheer2: No mention if it was a one time thing or not, but I'm not really worried about missing the deadline again. I already have calendar reminders set up for the weeks leading up to my annual banking deadline. :hourglass

HOORAY! Since it was out of your control, I'm really glad they took care of it for you. Also a valuable lesson for other resale buyers to make sure to negotiate the banking into a contract if its going to cut it close! :thumbsup2
